Spongy Meme Sause if you play the Sonic Gems Collection port (the GameCube one) its actually a lot more controllable with the GC controller layout and makes the game vastly more enjoyable especially when played with two or more players. Its always been one of my favorite Sonic spin offs.

Amy's hover car mode does give her an extream advantage in some short cuts as long as it's not winter. So in that way it can make up for some of her disadvantages but not really. Might be rembering wrong but the more important thing about robotinic missiles was that they take coins away when your hit by them. Thus you cant aford boosts or short cuts.

I mean, the missiles taking rings away is a decent idea, and it could possibly make up for how weak the impact is, but that means almost nothing when the missles have such bad accuracy that the chances of it doing anything at all are too low to justify losing 10 rings to use it.

18:43 - That is true, the weather option was on the PC version. But, it was also included on the GameCube when Sonic R was was featured in the retro-collection title: Sonic Gems collection. (That's actually how I descovered Sonic R. My older brother and I played Sonic R from time to time and unlocked everything. Sure, the game aged poorly but we enjoyed it. And to this day I still adore the main theam and credits theam)

I would be seriously excited if a fan hack of Sonic R came out and was improved the way you described. About the music, people seem to forget that was normal at the time, the Nights credits music, Astal, 3D blast (Saturn/PC), Burning rangers, Sonic CD's opening all have lyrics with a very 90s tone, it wasn't just Sonic R. a very good video overall. but i'm not sure if i agree with the track changes the whole reason for the islands for example. are that they are out of the way so your forced to prioritize taking a longer route but being faster than the slow AI in order to get (for instance) all 5 of the coins. Yea, if your taking the shortest route you can easily overlap the AI but when your going out of your way to get the collectibles it kinda balances things out. as far as the hairpin turns, there's a mechanic that lets you lean Left or Right to get a shaper turn, i have a feeling most people never notice because on some versions of the game it's not exactly easy to do because of button mapping, but if mastered can make easy work out of most turns. i do agree though the characters could use some re-balancing. Keep up the great work.

I'm pretty sure I used to be able to beat Supersonic with Mecha Knuckles, like 99% sure. He wasn't that much faster. Also, you have to use the left-break and right-break to turn tight corners. You slam into walls like that when you just use the directional keys.

In practice only Metal Sonic and Metal Knuckles can match Super Sonic somewhat, and that's if you keep to the shortcuts. Super Sonic's AI will start using some shortcuts which will make your life much harder

I've loved this game for as long as I can remember. I've kind of cherished it as a broken mess, but a broken mess that's got a good amount of enjoyment tucked away inside it. That said, the problems you had were valid the changes you made were warranted. I love these ideas and hopefully some bored romhacker will come along someday and realize them at least in part. Although there was one part of the video I disagreed with: the music being "out of place" for a sonic game. Soulful vocals like these were something early sonic games toyed with when the hardware could support it, at least in the US. I suppose these songs are far more upbeat but Tidal Tempest and Wacky Workbench from Sonic CD's US soundtrack contain vocals like these. Food for thought. Also Tails and Tails Doll are much worse than sonic/knux and their metal variants lmao

I like the fact that you play 'Book End Bossa' by Round Table, from their April album at the start of the video. I thought I was the only one on the planet that knew of / owned this album (I bought it when it first came out, back in the day). Onto Sonic R; I was a Sega Saturn fanatic when the console was around during my high school years. The only person to own one, basically. Loved the console. Loved Sonic R. Didn't even realise the game was so disliked until years later when the internet became a thing. I really loved it. It only had about 5 courses, sure, but that was every arcade racing game on the Saturn. Loved the music. Controls were fine, once you got used to them. The exploration was fun. Never figured out how to climb the walls with knuckles though, supposing that you can(?). It said you could in the manual, but as hard as I tried... I need to give kudos for the track editing you did at the end of the video. That is some fantastic commitment to the video / game. Personally, I think Sega should commission another Sonic R. Get Sumo Digital to do it. Not a fan of their Sonic / Sega racing titles, but they would have the commitment to pull it off.

bought this soundtrack a month ago. sounds like what you'd hear while stuck in line at a JC Penny's in 1997. Which would usually be bad but for some reason I give it an 11/10 anyway. For an example of a racing game that incorporates collectibles well, look at Crash Team Racing. The tracks are made to be race tracks, but there are collectathon modes in the storythat work with the level design. The CTR challenge hides collectibles in areas that are hard to reach and occasionally are only there for aesthetic reasons other wise, but more than ofter they are just hidden behind an obstacle or even show you a shortcut. Additionally, relic races have a ton of boxes that stop the clock, and the more valuable ones are put on routes that are hard to reach/otherwise counterproductive (read, jumping down a climb you just made) to make the trek back worth it without cluttering the track with a million alternate paths
