True. What I may love most about this story so far, is that it becomes apparent: it’s not some villain or simple issue to solve. The real problem is helping Kimiko out of the hole of pain, hate, and despair she’s trapped herself in. Out of loathing for herself and the world, she trapped herself in her own painful hell that only her friends and she, herself, can help her out of. It’s more so that inner voice of pain thats keeping her stuck in that hole. An earth-bound spirit’s past is seemingly what keeps them anchored in limbo. Oftentimes, in fiction, the only cure for that is for joy and love to erode that pain. Hope.

Poor Itsuki, her pride as an exorcist was shattered. Then again, maybe she’ll go through some character development, and find pride in being an ambassador to the living and dead. Rather than an exorcist. I mean, this whole experience would probably make her want to switch jobs. Then again, she’d probably have a better time speaking with other spirits, since Kisuko is the strongest. Itsuki may find more satisfaction helping the living and dead find closure, rather than sacrificing her sanity in a violent exorcism.

As the story goes on (beyond what’s shown here) you get more clues, and an explanation to Kinoko’a backstory that’s as tragic as it is dark. With her hair around her body, and especially her neck. Plus, her having psychic powers like seemingly telekinesis, it becomes more apparent how she died. Though, when you peel back the layers of her story, and everyone’s own perspective, Kimiko becomes slightly less scary, and more tragic. Revealing she isn’t an evil spirit. Just broken, and lost. Trapped in her own despair and self loathing.
