What a VERY INTERESTING story!! I can picture Old Salter turning in his grave when his younger son ended up marrying Margaret anyway!! In the end, all his plans were for nothing!! No wonder this story was remembered long afterwards!! 💗💞👍

Thank you very much indeed - I have a very great fondness for MR James and his stories. I am sort of in his academic lineage too. My PhD supervisor was supervised by an academic who was supervised by an academic, who was supervised by M R James at Cambridge. Such approaches to history are passed down!

Another Corker, Allan! The ending couldn't have been better - the children getting out from the shadow of Old Man Salter! I didn't see any monument or marker to him - is his grave unmarked? All Saints is also another very beautiful and evocative building.
