I understand what Enzo Maresca means, games that could be easy victories end up being close or scrappy wins (Bournemouth, Brentford, Leicester, Newcastle, Tottenham when it was 4-2). The draws against Palace and Forest are a reminder of how close they've been to dropping points and sometimes it's other teams ineptitude in the final third (Watkins when it was 1-0, Isak when it was 2-1) or a bit of luck (Caravalho hitting the top bar) that has saved those points

They rose and they ran, and they ran and they rose, Oil-fed pockets, where the gold always flows. They bought every player, built a fortress to stay, And laughed as they said it: "Stay humble, eh." Ten wins, twenty wins, lifting the prize, Glory-filled nights beneath arrogant skies. But the wind turned cold, and the pitch turned grey, Now the chant’s not triumphant-just, "Stay humble, eh." Loss after loss, the scoreboard bleeds, Players stumble, the team concedes. The rival smirks as the goals replay, A shadowed whisper: "Stay humble, eh." The manager paces, his tie too tight, Eyes bloodshot red in the harsh floodlight. Fans hurl curses, the critics bray, The ghosts in his mind sneer, "Stay humble, eh." No more banners, no more cheers, The oil’s run dry; they drown in their fears. What’s left of a dynasty built in a day? Just a fading echo: "Stay humble, eh." And they run, and they rise, and they rise, and they run, But the season’s lost and the damage is done. A curse, a lesson, a price to pay, Forever repeating: "Stay humble, eh."

With Chelseas situation I feel as if managing expectations is the correct response on all fronts both for the fans, board and players. I dont think the fans after getting rid of Poch thought they would improve to this extent, the board most likely just wants top 4 or maybe even top 7 and the players are confident why add pressure to them by declaring a title race. When they eventually lose again they are more likely to bounce back and continue on as normal. Take for example man city they lost a few in a row and their confidence is shattered due to them always having the pressure of being title contenders leading to this spiral. Even when they did win against a current top 4 side it did little to steady the ship.

I've never bought into the concept of Guardiola being one of the greatest managers of all time. His methods are straight from Cruyff and the three teams he managed were the most dominant force in Europe. He's only won three champions leagues with those teams, Neil Warnock could have done that with those teams.
@haroldsimarmsta75035 минут бұрын
Yeah he did it with the best player in the world at all three clubs... but he still need to deliver not just training them for the games but also man manage all the players which he is very strict about. I myself would really like him to take on a team with modest budget but had a potential like um, Lazio or Lyon or etc. But the stuff he won dont lie though. Not every manager can do well in a smaller club, just like Ancelotti at Everton or Jose after his Chelsea days or even Benitez after his Liverpool UCL title

Maresca isn’t talking about one particular team per se. It’s more mentality wise. The mentality of a title contending team wouldn’t concede the kinds of stupid goals they had. And let’s not start with Sanchez who is completely unpredictable. If Chelsea can strengthen their defense, they can 100% be title contenders. For now, it’s “score more goals than we concede.” But who knows? Maybe that is enough.

As a city fan most of what we’ve seen from us is individual errors bad summer transfer ruining us and loss heads. I can’t cry because of how well we’ve been the past decade. It’s a privilege to see what we have been but this down period we can’t cry to hard we’ve had it amazing. It’s not a managerial problem not a tactical problem just a terrible run of form and bad planning with recruitment. We have the 4th oldest squad in the league some of our mainstays in our team have been here for a large majority of 4-5 seasons plus playing 65+ games a year and none are getting any younger. We deserved the loss fair and square and some big changes have to be made come the next transfer windows.

From my extremely amateurish expert insight, the experienced team that Maresca is acared of is, Come On Yanited!!! Ok jokes aside, the post winter season is going to be insane, if any of the top 5 teams apart from chelsea faces injuries, their campaign can derail dramatically, and i think United might surprise people, my wild card is that number of players who people think are no more wanted in United, will have a positive turn of form, especially those eho are considered not fitting in Amorim's system, my theory is that people are misinterpreting what Amorim's system is, it's not about roles or positions, it's about adding certain elements to roles so that defensively they don't get exposed, and is highly versatile 3-4-3, not just the form people saw in that City vs Sporting game. And he will make people learn thise things instead of letting them not do it.
