A time when Mitsubishi made cars you actually wanted to drive. So sad to see the downfall of such a great car company
@dct124 Жыл бұрын
I think Mitsubishi focus on trucks and SUV's has been around since the 80s. A big company like them sees changes early. PEOPLE don't buy car's anymore. Not enough to make it make sense.
@kenxiong6830 Жыл бұрын
@@dct124 it’s not whether people are buying cars from Mitsubishi or not. It’s more about how Mitsubishi was once at the forefront of automotive technology. They are a shell of themselves today. They are literally on life support in the U.S. market. Mitsubishi’s current line up of cars and trucks is laughable when compared to their competition. This wasn’t the case in the 90s
@dct124 Жыл бұрын
@@kenxiong6830 Mitsubishi was never a big seller in the US. Their biggest years, they were only selling 300k+ per year. The reason they sold well in the early 2000s was from the deals they were giving out not the cars themselves. Not to mention the recession from 89-99 was over. They fell off during the economic crisis of 2007-2009, where they were only selling around 150k per year, and never recovered since. Mitsubishi was always a middle of the road Japanese car manufacturer in the US. Toyota and Honda cornered the US market. There bread, and butter was appliances and as parts supplier. As for racing Mitsubishi ran Dakar and has the most victories of any manufacturer especially with the Pajero. What you're missing is that vehicles sales across the board plummeted after 99. There was a little peak, but we went from 8-9m million units to just about 2-5m in the last 10-12yrs. 2021 only 2.6m cars were sold.
@dct124 Жыл бұрын
@@kenxiong6830 also ppl don't buy car's because they're good car's. People buy based on the deal 🤝 Hyundai makes some of the worst reliable cars but they have by far the best deal of any manufacturer. They're the only one with a 10yr 100k power train warranty, 5yr 60k new vehicle warranty, 7yr unlimited mile perforation warranty. No one comes close to that. The next closest is 5yr 60k power train warranty. 5yrs + a extra 40k miles. Today most sales come from pick up trucks and crossovers. Mitsubishi is doing better than both Volvo, and Jaguar/Land Rover. They're all still making $700m to $1b a month with these high prices.

I agree as my first car when 17 was a colt mirage and I had twelve of them making older ones onto one good car and the reliability was head and shoulders above all my friends cars and always started in any weather and I drove them hard being young and it took so many punishments as I was young but they are just been rubbish for a long time

The success that Mitsubishi had in motorsports is unbelievable. And you know what's crazy? This documentary doesnt even touch on the insane success that the Mitsubishi Pajero had in the Dakar Rally! From 1985 to 2007 the Pajero was consistently on top - Mitsubishi has more wins at Dakar than any other manufacturer.

They still exist, Renault and Nissan just fucked them over and forced them out of the markets mitsubishi beat them in
@nel94292 жыл бұрын
@@hardlinefoil7532 That's not true. The pull out of Chryslers stocks in Mitsubishi ended it. The fall of DSM was the major turning point. Mitsubishi isn't just an auto maker either. Mitsubishi's cars are only about 17% of their revenue. Mitsubishi makes most of their money from appliances and real estate. What we are talking about here is Mitsubishi Motors, and with such a small amount of their profit not turning around, they just didn't care what people thought and started making what they call "Global Vehicles" which are affordable, reliable, and economical. Mitushibi Motors will never return to it's glory, they have no reason to. The only hope in that would be if a larger (or new independent) auto maker bought Mitusbishi Motors from Mitsubishi themselves and revived the heritage (most likely as EVs, which is OKAY). I've been a Mitsubishi fan since I was 7 years old in 1985 and have never and will never leave their side.

This video genuinely makes me sad. Now, with the intended revival of RalliArt, but with the clear intent by Mitsubishi leadership to fold MMC R&D and rely on Renault-Nissan designs for its future vehicles - I don't have much confidence that Mitsubishi can actually return to those glory days of old. Not like there's much of a market for economically-priced ultra-high-performance cars anymore anyway. The future truly looks bleak. Unless, of course, the goal is to sell trinkets labeled "RalliArt" for an upsell - much like VW, BMW, Toyota and other manufacturers tend to do these days. One can only hope that someday, Mitsubishi can once again break away from the yoke of mediocrity and stand on its own merits and engineering capabilities to be a true motorsports icon again. God knows, it's not because it can't --- it's been a clear problem of leadership's lack of vision in that it just won't.
@citymedic4063 жыл бұрын
Well said. That's why I cherish every moment with my 95 3000gt and enjoy what MMC used to represent. But I can say my wife's 17 Outlander Sport has been as trouble free as the Gt compared to any other cars we have owned.
@slippercream3 жыл бұрын
@@citymedic406 With you on that brother. I don't have a 3000GT - but I still have some Eclipses and the Evos. But it's amazing to me how old really doesn't necessarily mean "bad". I currently have build orders on old components, which I intend for a custom road/track build on an FTO. Let me tell ya, not only is it a lightweight, solid chassis that, honestly if not for power, can keep up with modern cars on canyon roads due to its suspension design. It's also a great-looking 90s car that still competes in the looks department with even the most modern designs! I still remember getting lectured by dealers about how no one buys cars anymore. If that were the case, I wonder why every midlifer with some extra cash will either fork out for a Porsche Boxster, Cayman, or Miata, or 86. Or go back to an S2K or ... name a Nissan from the 90s. If not go all-out on a high-dollar 2-seater or M-car. I still quite enjoy the raw, fast and fun thrills you get in an older Mitsubishi. Too bad that's not what New Mitsubishi is all about. "Mitsubishi-ness" ... what on Earth is that??? (And on a Nissan C/D platform, to add insult to injury.) Ahh well... life goes on I guess... :)
