So sad to hear, I loved the book series and its not as childish as other YA books. I thought it would be perfect as a series especially since it gets darker as the series goes on.

I’ve read the Holly Jackson series and I don’t understand why the American series was transformed as British.

It’s not an American series it’s a British book series as the author Holly Jackson is British but she changed the series for americans

Pip goes everywhere on passenger train and court drawing show judges in wigs, the American disguise by the American publisher was never convincing.

It's because the series was originally set in England and the author, Holly Jackson, is British. She had the books changed and set in America for the American readers. I've heard the original British version is better, that Pip has more character and the mystery is better. I've only read the British version though so I can't know that for sure.. Hope this helped :))

I totally agree about all secondary characters being absolutely flat!

Haven't read the book, but I'm always looking for good programming. I'm on the first episode and already wondering why all the filler. One minute she's talking to someone, the next driving a car, the next back at home in her room. WTF!

Starting epi 2 and way too much angsty BS. But it's not for 70 year olds, it's for teens.

Honestly, having loved the books and watched the show, most of the problems come from poor adaptation changes. Andy is white wash to the point of almost disappearing from her story, Pip is made more passive and not at all cunning since characters now just hand her information instead of her tricking people into giving her information and putting small things together to see gaps in the case. Relationships become more of the focus with additional scenes not in the book added while the mystery is given less importance with a lot of important elements cut out of the story completely. Storyline that book 2 rely on for example are completely absent which would become a problem if they wanted to adapt it next. It is too bad because that book was already pretty cinematic. It felt like people adapting it wanted to make it softer in tone than it is because it is aimed at teens, as if they didn't trust their audience.

My favorite mysteries are probably A Haunting In Venice and the Family Guy episode And Then There Were Fewer.

I agree. I have read the book, and somehow reading made me care more about the characters. I was also trudging through the episodes. Their dialogues somehow were shallow to me. The only time I cared was when the dog died. period

Yesss! Holly Jackson wrote the characters so well and I feel like we get to know them a lot better in the books ! I don't know how they were able to cut some of our favourite moments from the books to give more screen time to Pip's friends and yet they feel like complete strangers to me.

I've listened to the audiobook versions of the series multiple times and am in the process of reading the books and I love them! The tv show simply did not do the books justice. As my sister described the comparison between the show and the book: "It was like the took the skeleton of the book but left all the meat." My advice is if you've read the books and loved them, don't watch the show, at least not with high hopes. It felt dull when compared to the show, it's as if the clues were all handed to Pip on a silver platter and Pip and many other characters lacked - as Ravi would put it - pizazz they had in the books. However, if you've seen the show and liked that - or even if you didn't - I recommend reading or listening to the books! (and if you have or will read the second book, you'll understand the Ravi reference)

As someone who read the book but has not yet finished the series: I loved the book. Pip comes across as autistic (in the british version) and that might be why her relationships are the way they are and she sometimes feels isolated from the happenings around her, but I would have to watch more of the series to be sure of that
