I've said it before: BR is the most important SF film of the 20th century and may very well be the most important film of the 20th century period. There is nothing else like it. You could write a 26 volume encyclopedia about this film and barely scratch the surface. It is my favorite film of all time and I have studied every print and format possible owning upwards of 20 different cuts and dozens of versions of the soundtrack. I know every flaw in the film and celebrate each one. The fact that a film can have so many flaws and yet still stun you every time (which I have done over 1000 times all versions combined) never fails to astound me. We will never see anything like it again and I feel blessed to have seen it opening day in '82 and lived long enough to see it get the respect it deserves. To all the many people who worked their craft on this I can only say thank you for this creation and wish there were stronger words to offer..

Very well said, i havent seen BR 1000 times but still consider myself pretty well versed in all aspects of the film, the original book and the dialogue and deleted scenes, you put into words how i feel about the film

It definitely is imo too. I have 2001 in 2nd place. There is something so different about Blade Runner!

Certainly in its concepts of biomechanics and AI. AI in android form is going to be a lot more like bio-engineered "more human than human" versions of us. Maybe more like human AI hybrids. Lets face it, humans keep extending themselves with eye glasses, heart implants, iphones and eventually the ultimate extensions to our brains and DNA. The Replicants are us, just more intelligent, compassionate and brutal.

I was 15 years old and went to the movies alone most of the time. I never forget this movie with 5 people in the movie hall a big screen in the middle seat. That movie made a big impact.

I saw Blade Runner when I was 16. I had to sneak in to the cinema to watch it. The movie changed my life. I was a fan of the great Syd Mead since then. I studied architecture and I'm still an architect. I appreciate the art that industrial designers do and I studied them. Dick Powell is another well known ID stylist. I will forever be indebted to Ridley Scott for making this film. If only he could have made Gibson's Johnny Mnemonic.

Blade Runner is a master class in world building. The film never feels like a set. Everything about it really makes you believe this is an alternate timeline of reality. Even through its grime, I love the world of Blade Runner. Cyberpunk performed correctly.

When I saw this in the 80s, I had no idea what it means but, having learned Japanese and studied art and film, this movie means MUCH MUCH more to me, now. Especially as a middle-aged man.

thankyou so much for this.......the nostalgia is hitting me hard. without a doubt the greatest and most complete sci-fi movie ever made which still stands head and shoulders above the rest even today. I'll rewatch this once a week, I just wish i could like the video once a week as well.

BR was shown and studied when I was a photo student at Art Center College of Design in 1982. Syd was an alumnus and held in the highest regard. The film was and still is my favorite for stunning visual content.

As an ID with a background for many years in cosmetics and visual merchandising, when faced with a design problem I always asked myself what Syd Mead would have done in this situation, and this usually would lead to a good solution.

On the laser disk, there are drawings he made of a rail line that comes up out of the ground only when the train nears it, this stops any dead animals or w/e obstructing the train. Only this exist on the Laser disk edition, they omitted a lot of his designs on DVD and BR, which is a shame.

I don't understand with the re mix make over of the original there were no voice overs 😕 it takes away from the personal thoughts of Decker ☹still love the movie will always be the best movie ever made, just wish they didn't take out the voice overs out 🥴
@id-null
@id-null 2 жыл бұрын
The original actually didn't have voice overs. The studio executives demanded they add a voice over to explain the plot because it was way over most peoples heads at the time for general audiences. The voice overs were added last minute and in my opinion they kind of over-explain things too much. Im glad I watched the version without the voice over first because you're able to figure out the subtext of what's going on yourself and it lets you feel like a bit of a detective yourself as you're watching. Though the voice over does fit the noir vibe they were going for it was a little too corny for such a deep movie.

For a first time director, so much money was spent for sets. Seems like Ridley bullied these producers - bent them to his will. Not sure all of the money was well spent though - such as Deckard's apartment for instance - most scenes are so dark, it's hard to see all the work the art department accomplished.

They went to all this trouble and then dumped it and moved on. Such a waste. Ultimately it's just a 1 time pose. You end up with tiny snid bits of potential and they don't go anywhere. In the case of Blade Runner, 20 something years, over 2 decades later, you get a sick B&D 2 generation's later nasty horrible version. That was SO obviously going to happen but it was already out of date at the time cause the internet had already arrived and it was 1000× better at sick and demented than Hollywood could ever be.

All your designs are already copyrighted. They weren't supposed to copy any of it. We wouldn't have gotten any of it. They copied everything including this such as apartments. True to life MEANS copyright. You copied right down to the tiny details.

Another smart idea in Blade Runner was the majority of people in the street being Asian, a reasonable assumption to make about the future.
