Thanks for highlighting the incredible Oakland Station that includes a fierce statue of C. L. Dellums, co-founder of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, the first black labor union in the USA (1925).

Unfortunately, most states don't care enough to recreate these services as much as California. But as the state's experience proves, people want to and do take trains when they are well maintained and available! I wish more states started doing this.

I know I *MUCH* prefer to take trains. I’m not flying anywhere - as I doubt I can maintain well enough, long enough, to stay out of trouble.

I used to take this train daily between Fairfield and Richmond. It's a nice journey, but the problem is frequency - I just wanted to show up and not have to worry about missing my train and getting stranded for 3 hours. The San Joaquin line is really nice as well.

Thanks for the great video. The Fremont station was my stop from Sacramento 2-3 times a week for about 3 years. Good memories on the Capitol Corridor.

3:16 the cars are driving backwards?
@LonestarTrips2 жыл бұрын
Ha! This video's been out for almost 8 months, and you're the first person to notice that! The reason they're driving backwards is because of how I filmed that shot. I started by focusing on the signal, and then tilted down to the tracks, but while editing, I found it worked much better the other way around, so I just reversed the clip.

Now most northbound trains at Fremont stops that the longer concrete (Station side) platform instead of the shorter asphalt (canopy side), since they are rebuilding the asphalt platform.
@LonestarTrips2 жыл бұрын
That makes sense. Would’ve appreciated if they were at least consistent though.

And the later cars named after beaches, points, and either canyons or Islands in the Bay, and like some VIA Sleeping Cars , the Business Class Cars are named for Parks.(Eg: Balboa Park or Belmont Park) are used for Business Class. BART has nice futuristic trains you should ride.

Interesting. Don’t think I’ve ever seen the cafe car on the California Cars, so was quite surprised to see the cafe area on the upper level. I wonder what’s on the lower level?
@LonestarTrips2 жыл бұрын
I had expected to see a cafe car, but not one on the upper level. From what I can see in the footage, it looks like the lower level has a few tables and other amenities for the crew, and I'd bet that there's also some baggage space down there as well.

California is going to do a minor rebuild program again and keep the F59phi in service likely till the mid 2030s when CARB has decided that all pax rail should be zero emissions... with wires no instead most lines seem to be going for hydrogen. The Section between oakland and San Jose will change with the line going closer to the bay as it first did under the project name South Bay connect. Rolling stock here has nothing to do with amtrak and is all on caltrans. Caltrans owns this fleet, picked the paint and named them.

The train is FULL with very few seats (certainly not enough for as many tickets are sold) if any available from Emeryville to Sacramento. If you own a car, it's cheaper and faster to drive. It's a 2.5 hour train ride of standing only. $38-45. Coductors with attitude problems. Yeah, it's not worth it. You can also fly from SFO to Sacramento in 54 minutes and $165 roundtrip.
