If the use of bread and wine were used to make covenants in those times what was so different about Jesus using bread and wine for this particular covenant?

Hi Rick thank you for directing me to the previous program. I probably should have mentioned in my first comment as a struggling Catholic I was taught that the bread and wine did more than represent Christ body and blood. I can see how in ancient times individuals would use them as symbolic to seal their covenant with another person or persons. But every time I read the Gospels I get hung up on the word “is.” There are other places in Scripture that use the word as or like to show something as representing similar to or in this case symbolic. How can I reconcile this with my understanding, especially since we’ve always been used to receiving communion on a weekly basis and now all masses of been suspended in our country due to the coronavirus. Thank you for helping me understand this issue. I really appreciate your understanding of Scripture.
