Larry is the nicest guy. Before I even knew his status I was talking to him on MySpace .. years ago. I shared a recording I made and he was so kind to give his thoughts. I had no idea he was a renowned artist, but he was humble, genuine, and just awesome in his responses. Class act all the way!

So cool! Thanks to Larry for loaning his personal guitar so we can check it out! And playing for us?! What a treat! The decision about the plate in the bridge pickup reminds me of the way a Tele ashtray responds - only better because it’s not laying on top like an ashtray, but really sits in a cavity within the wood. I really also understand the deal with stainless vs. nickel. I never tried a guitar with stainless steel, but there are pluses and minuses. As players, we want them to last longer. But for maintaining and working on them? Major pain. The nickel ones tend to wear faster, but high quality ones can still last years before even needed any minor repairs. If they’re a poor quality, expect to need to repair them faster. So as long as someone gets a guitar with really decent quality frets, that’s probably the best middle ground from both perspectives (especially if you’re working on your own guitars). Mid tier Epiphones seem to have great quality frets that hold up to abusive players, lol, so you don’t even have to invest a lot of money to get good quality nickel. Not sure about the lower end guitars. It would be interesting to do a nickel fret durability test among various brands and price points to see what holds up best these days!

Larry is an awesome player! I feel like he doesn't get the love he deserves for his work. As far as Knaggs Guitars go...TOP NOTCH! I love my Steve Stevens SST2 guitar! It plays like a beautiful vintage guitar with a modern twist. Larry's model is an amazing guitar itself! The tones are incredibly unique! I love that! I'm thinking that my next Knaggs will be one of his models. I'll have to talk to Peter about possibly making mine a custom color! Awesome episode! 🤘🤘

I had the pleasure of seeing Larry do a clinic here in Vegas about 7 years ago. On top of his beautiful playing was his easy going nature. I brought in a Shrapnel CD from way back for him to sign. He got a real kick out of seeing that CD! We talked afterwards about my Rush tribute and his early days of playing Rush as well. Larry let me play his Knaggs guitar. It was phenomenal! Kudos to a real gentleman in the music biz!

Yeah there's admittedly magic in the higher output JB style pickups for which Jeff Beck himself may be its very best wielder, but I'm a bigger fan of lower output pickups myself & can hear Mr. Mitchell's musical rationale for preferring its sound as well especially for its rhythmic clarity & chime while sacrificing that buttery midrange glow that is the foundation of the JB humbucker lead sound. And your getting Larry Mitchell on your channel to geek out with you on guitar construction & features for us: LUCKY
