I like this layout. It is great to see trains with a length that is so prototypical. And you stick to actual practises, sometimes a 100% blood and custard passenger train and then a blood and custard mixed with maroon coaches. I did see an N-Gauge layout at the Beaconsfield MRC Exhibition that ran a goods train with 87 wagons. That was as impressive as your lovely long trains. And I look at your loft, like this 🥲😯😲😮💙🤍💗, and then think, "That is a HUGE investment!" I love it. Makes my T-Gauge look so tiny, even with 11-coach passenger trains and 40-wagon freight trains.

I did think about N gauge so I could have really long tracks and trains. Its not been too expensive as most has been given to me or ebay. I did find pictures on how coach sets were actually done. Often the parcel coach was not put at the ends and so on. I appreciate your lovely comments, kind regards Philip

@@model.train.railway. Hi Philip, it is great when you can get pictures. I am in the process of painting and signing up a batch of GWR Railcars, and it is amazing that there are just so many colours to choose from. Yes, the standard blood and custard, but there is also two types of green with white, and a brown with white and a gold with white, add in the Express Parcels in Mail Red there will be a lot of colour when I run them. The hobby is pulling me back to a semblance of normality following a disabling stroke. Sadly, T is going the way of Z, and becoming very expensive for the physical size of purchases we buy. For example, 1 motorised chassis to fit a Deltic is now £60 each, and I have five etched bodies to build, that is a cost of over a £100!! 😜🙄 But it is an amazing hobby. I am trying to book my largest layout into at least 4 exhibitions next year. I love your houses and shops, and the countryside looks exceptional. Keep it up, David

Loverly.. Me and my dad started doing a railway in the loft about 27 years ago.. I moved out and since then.. other things have taken over the loft.. We used the rafters as the base for the railway. So we had cross beams and boards supported between the rafters to carry the railway. Leaving the centre for walking and the outer edges behind the railway for storage. Under the boards I made drop down boards for wiring etc. Basically a storage area behind and railway in front.. Never had a damp problem in our loft though. But I would also suggest that you take a look at your lights. Proper fixtures for the bulb holders that screw to the rafters.. Those you have could be dangerous to yourself and the house. I don't want you to have a fire.

I've seen videos of your layout before, and I think we already past some words, and it's stil nice to see you stil enjoy it. Every modeler has his fantasy, and obvious you are already well established. I hear lot's of family hands helped and that is always great to hear. The era you're running is not direct my theme, I like the turn of the 19's century, and have great fun in super detailing my layout. Jumpt into 3d printing, and today a 2d lazer cutter joined the tools, which I hope is going to be a great benefit in my future constructions. I saw the GWR type of station canopy, would like to see more details of that if you can squeeze it in somewhere. Perhaps a tip, you can buy UV filter foil for your roof window, this will help prevent sun bleaching. I just subscribed to your channel, I do hope it will hep you. Good luck on you project

I watched your video right to the end! There is a lot of work still to be done on this layout. The high speed line does not have catenary. You might fit just the masts to suggest this. Dapol masts are the cheapest. I would suggest you replace the light bulbs with LED strips along the rafters as, "Sam's Trains" has done. Tungsten filament bulbs consume too much electricity and are a fire risk. I would fit a smoke alarm at the apex of the roof space. Thanks for uploading.
@model.train.railway.
@model.train.railway. Жыл бұрын
Train sets are never finished. Catenary is a task for the future. Probably next year. I am currently building a new line requiring some more base board. The filament light bulbs give me heat as there is no other heater. Thanks for watching. Kind regards. Philip

Sorry I did not see your message. You tube do not make it easy sometimes. I use the filament bulbs as heating, but I do have some LED strip lights now. A few bulbs next to fabric are LED to stop fire risk. I do slightly worry some of the station bulbs next to cardboard do get hot. I have 4l of water upstairs in case. Maybe I should have more, good idea.

Very impressive Phillip. I have the use of a 16ft x 10ft shed/cabin and been in the planning stage of an N gauge layout for nearly 8 years, but i cant settle on a plan that i completely like. Any advice? Alan
@model.train.railway.
@model.train.railway. Жыл бұрын
That is exciting. Think of the lengths of trains you could have. I would go for 4 loops straight away and have points between all of the tracks and points so you can extend for sidings and fiddle yard later on. I would get it so you can run the trains as soon as you can. Also I like the foam track bed as it makes the noise less and less prone to derailment. I would leave all of the scenery for a later date. Philip
@alanwiggins8073
@alanwiggins8073 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply, I had thought about maybe a fiddle yard beneath the main layout, but I suppose I could incorporate a whole second level. It would have to be a gradual incline around the walls though, as I must allow space for my daughters easels. I'll get back to the drawing board

At last! A layout that's obviously and indeed, statedly more about playing than making. Bravo Señor! I am forced to draw back my compliments just a little though, as I'd like to make a couple of constructive criticisms in the hope that they'll help you to better your You Tube numbers by making better still videos: We all love to drive our trains at breakneck speed but on video here it just looks ridiculous. The other point is that you could well be the only videographer with such an enviable stable of Pendolini in your fiddle yard sidings who filmed them (at such a speed) yet didn't show us their entire raison d'être i.e. how they model cornering on the slant! Having moaned about the excessive speed, I at least would have been happy to see them bombing round the curves that fast whilst tilting. If only!
@model.train.railway.
@model.train.railway. 9 ай бұрын
Its difficult to get the pendolinos to tilt on a camera as the tilt is so small its hard to see as it is 8 degrees only. I will try sometime to video it sometime. Most of the trains I do keep to realistic speeds, but I was running the train at 250mph which is HS2 speed, but the HS2 train has not been released yet. Watch this video showing what HS2 will be able to do. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2jNmaugqrOmmK8

Most of it was built over 14 years. It went in spurts. The detail is not high because I have made so much scenery and with old man eyes, high detail is not worth it. Probably 3 hours a week. £6,000. Don't tell the wife. Most of the rolling stock is second hand and I only have a few expensive locos and most of the wagons have been given to mt from my dad. DC is much cheaper. Kind regards Philip
