I like how Grey is this robot metal tech man all about becoming eternal tech immortals and yet he prefers to tell time like a 17th century farmer in the New England colony.
@absie6287 Жыл бұрын
No no, they used calendars back then too! Farmers love calendars! You probably want pre-agricultural peoples of ~10,000BCE who prefer to tell time on plant vibes
@LibertyMonk9 ай бұрын
Calendars are useful for exactly one thing: organizing with others, like the "synchronize watches" scene in heist films. For literally any other purpose, the weather outside is more useful.

@@LibertyMonkand humans live with other people in a society, where you spend most of your time having to coordinate with other people, so a calendar is pretty useful.

I think our calendar should be adjusted by about three weeks so the Vernal Equinox (in the Northern Hemisphere - Autumnal Equinox south of the equator) falls on March 1. Then, the year should also be changed to start on March 1. That would make the calendar's quarters line up with the seasons (even more so if we make month lengths more standardized...), and month names would make more sense: October would be the 8th month again, for example. It would also reduce ambiguity: If a movie is coming out in "Winter 2024," that's currently ambiguous - is it coming at the beginning of the year, or the end? Lining up the calendar with the seasons eliminates that.
@john_michael_white Жыл бұрын
If we're changing the year they should run from mid-summer to mid-summer. That's how we measure academic years, and football seasons, and often TV shows. We're not in the year 2023 we're in 2023/24.
@icarue993 Жыл бұрын
@@john_michael_white but not every country measures academic years like so. Japan starts in Spring (February ish) for example.
@SeverinHawkland7855 Жыл бұрын
@@icarue993something I think is better than what most other countries do (like my own). It just makes more sense, spring seems more like the start of the year.

That is a bit north-centric. However, most of the world's population (90%) is North of the equator, so I don't really have a problem with that. Even half of Africa and a good chunk of South America are north of the equator.
@icarue993 Жыл бұрын
@@SeverinHawkland7855 I wouldnt say better. Just as the start of a new day is 12 am, it makes sense that the darkest day (or close enough) is the start of the year. If you REALLY want to, we can make December 21st ish the start of the new year.
