Fantastic review. I have owned a 2015 allroad Premium Plus since 2018 - 5 years now. It is an awesome car and this review nicely hit the high points - the smooth power, comfort, great handling, overall composure, and utility. I get a solid 30 mpg on the highway at 75 mph on road trips. Always. Other than routine maintenance it has needed nothing except a battery. I love outdoor sports and cycling and even now in 2023 can't find a more perfect all around vehicle for my practical needs combined with my love of driving. Well maybe a new one, haha. Seriously, why do so many people insist on SUV's? Thanks for the really informative and accurate review.

The vehicle is great looking and the utility is great. Audi interiors are beautiful. The only problem is the engine. This vehicle like many Volkswagen vehicles has direct injection which regularly needs the intake and valves cleaned to remove carbon buildup. Why couldn't Volkswagen design an engine with both port and direct injection that would eliminate the carbon buildup problem? Toyota figured that out a long time ago. I believe this vehicle is made in Germany but a lot of Audi and Volkswagen vehicles are made in other countries like Slovakia, Russia, and Mexico. So do some research before you buy a Volkswagen or Audi to see where it is made.

I own one and agree with most points made in this very good review.(I did find it odd that he raved about the car yet only gave it a 63/100).I especially appreciate it when older cars are driven/tested as this the proof in the pudding regarding build quality and where German cars stand out IMO.Unfortunately in that same light,high miles=high upkeep,so keep that mind.As a footnote to folks shopping for a used budget allroad-yes it's always lower case- consider the '14 over the '13 due to the upgraded Timing Chain tensioner-at this point there shouldn't be much price difference between the two years.

Correct! And it can send 85% to the rear and 75% to front axle. It’s a rear drive biased system first and foremost. I had a 2009 A4 prestige until September. Now I’m thinking about getting a B8 allroad. Love the way the B8 drives. My problem has been trying to find one with adaptive dampers. That was what made all the difference! When I got the A4 it was a $5,000 option for drive select with adaptive dampers. Worth every penny. You had a real difference between comfort and dynamic suspension. Came from a 3 series BMW before that. Hands down I would have the Audi again for drivability. And yes, the low end torque is great! Honestly you never have to go over 3,000 rpm and it just squirts forward. I drove my friend’s X3 with 2.0t and it’s night and day difference in low end grunt. Also with a tune it wakes up the upper end and you get really good performance. Right at 300bhp and torque. Feels good.

In fact it's 4x4 full-time (quattro 5gen, all-wheel drive permanent; torsen T-3 center differential 40/60 (70/30-15/85 automatically distributed), Electronic Differential Locks EDL front and rear applying brakes on spinning wheels)

I’d be curious for your thoughts about this in comparison to a Sportwagen All4. Especially for someone interested in subtle modifications and lighter weight. This is an excellent review and I appreciated how much you research and know about the cars.

Funny you mention that, my personal daily driver is a 2017 Golf SportWagen 4Motion, which has the same mechanicals as the Alltrack. I'm swamped with my career currently, but I have a video in the works on the GSW4M/Alltrack :) In short, yes I'm probably biased, but I'd choose the Golf. It doesn't have as much power, but it's lighter and more nimble, gets far better MPG, and you get a newer less-complicated car for potentially less money. And with a stage-2 tune, downpipe, and IS38 turbo from a Golf R the little 1.8 will make over 300 whp/wtq :)

I don't see why a well-maintained example couldn't go 200K+ miles, maintenance history is key though when buying a higher mileage German car. As I've said before, these cars just don't tolerate abuse like some cars do, and also note that when things fail it will cost more than average to fix it. To me the driving experience is worth it.

No more costly than VW… it’s an A4 equivalent to a Jetta or Alltrack. As long as you do good maintenance they’re fine. Recommend the APR or Unitronic stage 1 tune to improve efficiency.

I agree, I will be reviewing my own Golf SportWagen 4Motion soon and also hope to review an Alltrack at some point, especially a 6spd manual. However, as much as I like the VWs, the handling in stock form with this Audi was amazing...both VWs are quite soft in stock form.

The only disadvantage of the Alltrack is that it doesn’t have true full-time all-wheel-drive. It has a Haldex system that only kicks in once slip is detected.

It depends on what you would use it for. If you are looking for a fun daily driver and don't live in a wintery environment, GTI for sure...better MPG, smaller pkg, yet still quite quick and also has decent space. However if you live where the snow falls, and/or need a weekend car to haul all your outdoor gear to the mountains, the Allroad is tough to beat.

First of all, what are the references for the scoring? Is this car, as any other car, referenced to its class, or is it compared to Golf, TT or any other car, as mentioned in the video? Is this car expected to be as punchy as a TT? Why? Is this care expected to have the functionality of a van? Why? The manufacturer built this car with a clear scope: combine comfort, looks, design, functionality. And it does. Second: why the reviewer did not use the "Individual" mode for car setting? Because, probably, he doesn't know how to and the only modes he knows to drive is comfort and dynamic. There are multiple settings for steering, suspension, gear box. Never used. Why? Then, "fantastic ride and handling" gets a 7/10. Probably, for a 8/10, the ride and handling must be out of this world, isn't it? Styling is "near the top" and gets 7/10. Joking? This is a 7 years old car! And, Finally, the total score of 68/100. Is it good? Is it bad? Average? And still, the reviewer is "impressed". Really?
