@@Melviora like I said, I have increased my span. I stopped playing for 22 years but over the last 6 months I've succeeded in executing chords I never could hold by increased finger strength and hand strength (especially the back of the hand which seems to give me the extra stretch and more flexibility). I used to give up because of so many "you either have it or don't". But at 44 I no longer give a shit and it's been a real eye-opener, we are far more likely to achieve what we think is possible and I won't make my fingers longer but I can make the most of my hand.

@@agneteht spot on - growth mindset is very important for improving in any skill. why stop short of your potential best just because it might be slighly lower than the best's potential? deliberate practice will always result in improvement.

Try alternating the stationary note with the moving part, e.g. c-d flat, c-d, c-e flat, c-e, etc. Feel free to rock the hand gently from side to side, increasingly with larger intervals. Do the same in reverse with the upper part stationary, e.g. c-b, c-b flat, c-a, c-a flat, etc. But do this with ALL TEN possible pairings of fingers (12, 13, 14, 15, 23, 24, 25, 34, 35, 45), starting on ANY chromatic note. DIVERSITY and FLEXIBILITY of physical responses is key to USEFUL acquisition of stretch. DO NOT insist on addressing the key vertically downwards at all times, nor striking 'forte'-------------otherwise, stiffness and contraction of muscles may ensue, and the value of practice may be lost. All kinds of seventh chords (including diminished, half-diminished, minor, 'dominant', major, and augmented major) can be practised in ALL keys and ALL inversions, not only with standard fingering but ALSO WITHOUT THUMB and WITHOUT FIFTH FINGER. This can be done in broken OR solid form. Arpeggios of the same type help develop stretch and keyboard harmony skills at the same time. Playing HYMNS without pedal and with finger substitution to maintain legato can be VERY HELPFUL. Mostly importantly, believe in the Lord Jesus and place your progress at the keyboard in His hands. 'Seek first the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added to you.'

Isaac Bolton when I started playing piano an year ago I could only reach a 9 th now I can reach an assisted 11th my first piece itself had octaves in it so I think just constant stretching and practice can rapidly increase your handspan
@ameliashandcraftedmemes78885 жыл бұрын
@@shevinperera6334 That's exactly what has happened with me. I used to only be able to get a 9th and now I can get an 11th assisted because I have been doing lots of exercises. Doing it only a year after you started would really help you improve quickly. I'm 9 years in.
