I honestly believe that this needs to be seen by the whole US because I only knew about Columbine, Virginia Tech and Parkland High School (also Sandy Hook even though it was not in this video 😢). I feel ashamed that I myself a mother of 3 with two in elementary school did not know school shootings were going on 72 years ago, it might be naive on my part but I honestly thought Columbine was the first school shooting🤦. The only reason I thought this was because when you hear about the school shootings that have happened in the past Columbine is the furthest back that is mentioned. Now I have come to realize that ALL OF MEDIA (not just certain news outlets) only mention the shootings that have mass casualties which is kind of sad and we should be ashamed for not mentioning EVERY SINGLE SCHOOL SHOOTING because every victim's story should matter. Every victim's story should be heard no matter how long ago the shooting they were a victim of was , no matter if there weren't any lives lost in a certain school shooting because I just personally feel other stories shouldn't matter more per say than others. All 72 years of these school shootings have common ground, lives were lost, lives were forever changed and they ALL have to deal with the same aftermath just in different decades. I'm going to educate myself on every school shooting in the US because I truly feel guilty and ashamed that I did not know about the decades and decades of school shootings. I hope all the families and surviving victims have found some peace after the horrible tragedy they endured. I hope all the victims no longer with us are at peace and longer in pain🙏👼. This makes me want to hold on tighter to my babies and appreciate that I have everyday with them.

I mean, it is sad that the mindset in this country seems to be that guns solve everything. But not every shooting in this video was targeted by some crazed lunatic directly toward innocent students. One on the list happened at a local campus in my city. The shooter nor the victim attended said college or even lived in this city, and it was most likely some type of on-going domestic related issue (maybe both men were seeing the same female or something along those lines). While I realize that innocent students could’ve potentially been hurt, it appears these men would’ve ignited this “fight” anywhere, and that place just happened to be a college campus that day.

Parkland was only 30mins away from my home town. when that happened i was in school myself and that whole day everyone at school hugged each other and just made everyone feel loved so if something did happen we know that we are here for each other. My school freshman year had a boy bring a gun and knife to school. i was not in school that day but my sister was. thank god that someone saw it in his back pack and our deputies caught him and now he is in jail. when everything was happening my school went on lockdown and i had everyone calling me telling me that i need to get ahold of my sister. my sister was pert testing but luckily she got out right after my call and left school. now every school in FL have monthly code red drills and same w fire drills. school should be a place of learning and seeing friends, not hoping that we don’t get shot that day.

Knowing that commonality of it though, I still never saw myself being 6 inches away from someone shooting into the neighborhood little ceasars. The shock was still there but the emotion never came. I understand this situation of damaged kids since I went through it myself. Moved around all over the US. Beaten at home and bullied at school. Most of the time it was because of the salvation army clothes from the 60s that I wore to school that was of great interest to the groups of bullies at schools I attended. The thing about bullies, is they always travel on groups, never alone. So when one starts on you then the rest of the group starts in, and then the other students all join in the attach. Before you know it, the entire school is after you every second of every day, and it is hell ! This is why kids bring guns and start shooting other kids. My time however was way before school shootings where ever heard of 70s and early 80s. The thing about this kind of 100% all the time beating and bullying a kid starting at the age of 6 until HS graduation, the kid knows only anger and becomes afraid of everyone, a loner. The kids gets off the school bus and walks into his house, and is immediately grabbed by his hair and beaten with a board or switch or whatever is handy by the parent to beat the kid with. That is after his day at school of getting hit, kicked,pushed,harassed, all the wonderful things kids do to terrorize a target student. The parent seems to think the kid is putting drugs in the parents coffee. Strange the kid did not even know what drugs were until the parent continually beat the kid for the implied discretion. My older sister by 2 years at the age of 7 was the first to be beaten for drugs in the parents coffee. Imagine my surprise when I walked in the front door after school to see my parent beating my sister like she had killed someone. Nothing but constant damage to the kids from the time they get up to the time they go to sleep for years and years. This is what destroys kids, This is why kids bring guns to schools and shoot other kids. This is why when kids are bullied we must stop it immediately ! It is not the gun that does the damage, it is the constant damage that the kid face every day by the parents and kids at the school, and the adults that ignore and punish the damaged bullied kids. I know myself I was suspended many many times from school for getting bullied and fighting. When you are constantly attached by groups of students at some point even cowards have enough and fight back. I do not know why I became a coward, or even if that is the correct word? In my 50s now and I still scream and yell, but would run rather than fight. I never have liked people much and prefer to be alone. Is this a result of how I grew up with a dysfunctional childhood? We as the result of damaged kids must face the facts of school shootings and why they happen. It is NOT because bill found his dads gun and thinks it would be a great idea to shoot a bunch of other kids, but the result of a damaged kid not getting help to live a normal kids life. Do not blame the guns for school shootings when the problem has other factors that lead to the kids killing other kids. How do I know? Because I lived through it . Would I have taken a gun to school and shot a bunch of kids back then ? No, because it was a different time, sure my dad had guns, but I never made that connection or had that thought. Would I do it today if I was in school ? That I can not say since it is a different time, but the fact that kids have already been killing other kids in many schools means the cause of school shootings has not been addressed and so they continue to this date. School shootings will not stop until the damaged kids are given a normal life rather than damaged further every day.

SOLUTION TO PREVENT SCHOOL SHOOTINGS ! I think a safe room at each entry at schools would help. A room or small building with magnetic locking doors that a person would have to go into before they are allowed to enter the school that would have the metal detector in it, and a security guard that would be inside the school watching that person ( on video or through the bullet proof glass) would have to open the door for the person before entry. If a gunman tried to gain entry into the school, he must first go into the safe building, and walk through the metal detector. If the detector goes off, then the magnetic doors lock automatically, and the shooter is trapped until police arrive.

Hope Morehead anything where a student, or any person at that matter, brings a gun on a school campus is documented under a “school shooting”!

10:17 this list is misleading. Just bringing a gun would make this list, regardless of accidental or intentional. in 2018, 21 of those had 0 killed 0 injured. No reason to include events like these, yes there's a problem no need to inflate stats
@lavernegray46066 жыл бұрын
THE MATREX I think the point is that there shouldn’t be any gun incidents surrounding or in schools. A break-down in stats may help listing differences, but one incident is to many.
@Sarahmae52566 жыл бұрын
I agree but I believe the intent was to state that guns and school are too commonly combined. Even without the 21, it’s still a lot of incidents.
@wickedbass6 жыл бұрын
You may be right, but there are other incidents that aren't on the list because they're not on the Wikipedia page. A mom shot the principal at my school during class. Knowing that happened and isn't on the list just tells me there's more out there than are on the list. No matter what, it's still a big problem and there should be no gun violence in schools.

@@wickedbass "there should be no gun violence in schools" what an empty and idiotic statement.

Yah I said the same thing. A lot are not even school shootings they were incidences that happened near a school.They shouldn't do that,because that could easily discredit everything else.

Better parenting would stop this madness. Parent need to be a greater part of the children's lives Not just set them in front of the xbox as the digital babysitter. More gun laws won't change anything. If someone wants to harm another person. They will find a way with a gun, a knife, hell even a bat.

they might have an AR-15 too
@DM-uk3dp6 жыл бұрын
@@timuid23 that would be a better choice. hell they could use a shotgun. Nothings more destructive than a shotgun at close range. If they didn't have a weapon they would use a car to run down their classmate. There will always be people that want to hurt others. That's the way it will always be. You gotta protect yourself. Nobody will do it for you.
@wickedbass6 жыл бұрын
Sure, because that's the reason. It's today's parents and our inability to control our kids, right? It's not as if they were showing and interviewing people from shootings long before video games were around. There's a lot more to do with this than parenting. Society is a large part of it, and we're not making it any better right now.
@RachelNHarrison6 жыл бұрын
The fatalities are a lot lower with knife or a bat. These people are going for maximum casualties and carnage in a short amount of time and that’s why guns are the weapon of choice in these events.
