Hi. I have nest boxes but in my country we don't get the concave inserts. I put in coconut fibre and rice husts, but the budgies kick it all out. Will they be OK having eggs on the flat floor? If not, what can I put in there to help? Thanks..

I have a small aviary with eight birds, one pair has reared two lots of babies, the latest there was five and I have another box with quite a few new eggs, I want to remove the box when all the babies have left but will that affect the other box with the eggs in, will that pair who have just reared their babies hurt the other eggs. I don’t know whether this makes sense,but I am not sure when to remove boxes thankyou from sue

I'm in the south of England. The Budgies have an insulated shed and a heater if it gets below 5c.

ok so you know blue is male and white/brown is female if they are young then bright pink tends to be male and light pink with a bit of white tends to be female.

normally for every 5 i have a spare - think I had 18 pairs at most with 3 spare boxes and it worked out fine

hi currently have 2 female budgies. they live in a cage together and get along very well. I want to get two males so that I may be able to breed them in the future. how should I go about the budgies and their cages? which ones should go in a cage and any advise on how I should introduce themto one another so that they will be compatible to breed in the future?

I would seperate the 2 females and then pair them up with their new partner in seperate cages :)

So once the nest boxes are in the aviary you never add any more new budgies until the boxes are removed?

Hoodoo if you put more females in they have a habbit of going in already occupied boxes and attacking females

I have 5 males and 5 females in a big cage but i had to put the nests on the cage floor due to lack of space is that ok for breeding?

I would keep a close eye on them in a cage as they are more likely to fight over nests. If the cage itself is raised then it should be ok.

this happens when a new hen or one that has not chosen a box decides it wants another box (occupied). Thats why I always have more boxes than hens and introcuce them all at the same time
