i didn’t get put to sleep or asked any questions, i just got to the hospital, waited a bit, chose a movie and laid down in the mri. if you’re scared, it is there’s absolutely nothing to be scared of. it was actually quite a good experience for me. they gave me heaps of pillows and a heated blanket and I got to watch a movie :)

The thing they put over your face is the worst part of an MRI. I get yearly ones due to severe allergies (which cause my sinuses to be swollen/inflamed) and a cyst that my neurologist is watching to make sure it doesn’t grow in size. My first MRI I was given Ativan to help calm me down, but since then I just use lavender essential oils on a wash cloth and a wash cloth over my eyes. It’s not fun, but you kinda get used to them after awhile.

I been a MRI tech for 4 years! If you have high anxiety I have a few tips for you! Bring a friend or family member to come in room with you! Ask if they have music for you to listen while getting scanned, cover your eyes with a wash cloth or ask your doctor for a sedative before you schedule the test. Also ask the tech to give you a count down during the scan. Ask them to talk to you every 3 minutes. This really helps.Remember breath normal.

I've about had 2 MRI's just one on my head a long time ago, and another one on my hips last year. I've had long-lasting joint pain that just kind of erupts sometimes, so they didn't find anything on the MRI hips results, but rather my right testicle not in its place.

Ok for all who keep saying "I stayed awake why can't they?!" Umm you all are forgetting that EVERYONE is different. My son is Autistic and is having one done and his Neurologist suggested he be sedated knowing his behavior and NOT able to be still for 30 plus minutes. People can deal with it and others can't. I had a horrible experience its my first time i had a helmet litterally looked like a toture device it had no pictures or stuff to keep me calm didnt get put asleep and i have big tonsils so i need alot of water i couldnt even have 1 sip of water and i had to wait 20 minutes for the scan and i just decided to cancel it and wait until i get my tonsils removed. edit: i forgot to mention i also didnt have headphones that played music or anything i had straight up ear plugs that made me feel so uncomfortable.

I have a cyst in my brain so I have to go get MRI's sometimes. First I check in and they weigh me,check my height and oxygen and all that jazz. I wait around a bit and play my phone or watch the TV. A child life specialist does come and tell me what will happen and stuff. I'm almost 11 so I can stay still so I don't really go to sleep. They put an IV in my arm. I have to wait a LONG time before my MRI. When I go in,I get these goggles to watch a movie of my choice. I have to go for another soon BUT MRI'S ARE NOT BAD!

Gem Mom's same except they give me anesthesia to make me get sleepy. I don’t have them anymore but when I did it was because they thought I had a cyst I may have and it just went sways after 2 years of having MRI’s or it was nothing and the picture was wrong. I have had one bad experience when they were putting in my iv the used (they as in a 80 year old man who had to use a cane) a little thing to let them see my Veins and he could not find them when my dad was showing him where to put it (my dad isn’t a doctor but he does doctorly stuff) and the old man kept poking at my hand to the point where I have a scar (fairly big) from all the pokes Sorry for writing a novel lol

I had one yesterday on my ankle no iv or anything you just have to lie still mine took about 35-40 mins it didn't hurt all they did was out my foot in a boot like think and padded it well to help me not move they then put me in feet first my head was outside the scanner the nurse was always talking to me to tell me how long was left and to stay very still or to tell me I was doing good. It's nothing at all I was supper scared but it is nothing to be scared of it's just loud but they give you head phones witch will prob have music in them if you want.

I had two MRI's and none of this happend to me I didn't have a needle or I wasn't put asleep I just walked in to a room and went to the bed and had my scan

When I was a baby, I had an MRI, since I was so young, yes they did have to knock me out with anesthesia before hand

When I had my mri done I just went to a normal mri clinic and I didn’t have any special room and I wasn’t put to sleep either and I went home right after I was done.

I think they're to serious about the MRI, you don't need to be put to sleep. Just stay still. She seemed stiff when she was laying down anyways.

Jasmine Pon some ppl gets a little jumpy, so having anesthesia helps because it "paralyzes" you temporarily.

Yeah, when I had my MRI, they just gave me some goggles which ad basically a movie and headphones and I just laid still!

MRIS are nothing to worry about I have about 5 or 6 a year for the pass 10 years and they last about an hour, I'm so use to them now I just go to sleep.

I had an mri last year but i tried to stay awake but i was scared and i cryed so i had to go to sleep but then i woke up and it was all fine:) but i had to get shots wich hurt i had a bruise after my mri but it went away

Haha they didn't really sugarcoat it for me. I was at a top children's hospital but the tech was a little rude. He missed the vein 6 times! My mom eventually put it in and it was ok. Didn't hurt that much. I didn't get a booklet but I was in the hole for 70 minutes! I'm a little claustrophobic. I wish they would have been a little more kind but I was 13, I could handle it.

I had surgery in my mouth because there was a huge bubble under my tongue and I woke up I could barely see anything or open my eyes that was two years ago and I'm nine years old right now and I was only seven years old I went to Children's Hospital to get the surgery I was asleep while they were doing the surgery

+Jacob LERNER The IV is used to give the patient medicine such as a Versed/Fentanyl combination to relax the patient and disorient them and make them forget the procedure. Sometimes the radiologist/anesthesiologist will opt to go straight to propofol (that's the white creamy liquid you saw in the syringe on the video) to knock the patient out completely. IV lines are also used for contrast during MRI scans so the technicians are able to see the images more clearly.
