Regarding Canon macro lenses, there is the 180mm and the 65mm ultra macro. Both excellent lens options and worth a look.

I'm planning on getting the 80D and wondered if you could recommend a lense for astrophotography. I currently don't have a guided mount for a DSLR so would be limited on my exposure time to avoid star trails. Thanks.

I myself have the 80D and am slowly "creeping" into astrophotography. It really depends on what you want to capture. Want to get reasonably close to stars? I do that with the EF 100-400L and it works quite fine. You can crank up the ISO on the 80D reasonably well, it has quite a low noise floor. For general starry sky photos you obviously want to have a wide angle lens. I haven't experimented with that, but I'll try it using an EF-S 15-85mm. I suspect, however, that I'll need a faster lens for that, such as the 24mm f/1.4. I'll report back in January after returning from my trip to western Australia. :)

do you think I should get 100-400mki or is it worth getting the newest version for double the price

I use the MK1 version on my 24MP Canon 80D. I have used it for shots of landmarks in the distance, but I'll definitely want to use it for wildlife photography. As already said to Guy Bunce in the comments here, I'll report back after my trip (which will involve wildlife photography). Other than that, even the MK1 is an absolutely stunning lens, beautifully made, high quality, good IS (even for such a comparably old system). With the lens profiles in my 80D I have never ever had any issues with chromatic aberration, distortion or vignetting. Sharpness has mainly been degraded (if at all) by atmospheric seeing. Only really bad thing about the lens is the plasticky hood. I've managed to break it already, as it is really flimsy. From my point of view, I can already tell you now that you won't be disappointed with the MK1 version. If you are unsure, however, I highly recomment to rent either one of those and make up your mind on your own.

Hello I just purchased a Canon 80d body and am looking for a nice all around lens. I shoot a lot of scenery because I live in the middle of the Appalachian Mountans so we have beautiful views year around. also I have several nieces that play sports so I also try to get a lot of shots of them. my one concern is my wife's family lives at the beach so when we visit during the summer I always notice that everyones lenses fog up after taking them outside from being inside in the air conditioning so they always lay there cameras on the porch table under a towel for sometimes an hour for it to clear up because shooting is impossible. I definitely want to avoid this.. sorry for so many questions but I want to make the correct choice because I dont have an unlimited amount of money so I have to get it right the first time. thanks

Where can I go online to get an explanation for all the acronyms associated with Canon lenses? EF = Electronic Focus; IS = Image Stabilization; STM = ?; EF-S = ?; USM = ?
@danieltakawi99194 жыл бұрын
Just search each acronym up on google. For example what does USM mean on canon lenses? I do know that EF lenses are for full frame cameras and EF-S are for cropped sensor cameras.
@cayden77253 жыл бұрын
Usually it's quite straight forward. EF is for full frame, so EF-S is for crop sensor. USM stands for ultra silent motor, meaning the autofocus doesn't have that "wrrrr" noise.

hi I currently have a 70D I like taking pictures of wildlife and running animals. I'm currently looking at getting the ef 70 to 200mm 1:4 L IS F4 and just wondering if this will be good lens for me and my Camera?
@WillHarold7 жыл бұрын
molecbr worth it. And you could buy a 1.4X tele converter. It would mean shooting at 5.6 but your focal length is multiplied by 1.4 also

As mentioned so much in the video, 50mm 1.8 lol For me I find the focal length really nice for portraits, if you want slightly longer the 85mm is also pretty nice.
