Okay, this was just plain cool to see. I like the bonus content showing the result of copper plate with paint resist. Intriguing! As for faves, I think I like the copper, the blue nickel and the zinc in reverse order. The zinc just has this kind of soft, lustrous appearance that I like. It's more luminous than reflective. Very neat to see the whole process and explanation of materials. Many thanks! Great stuff.

I feel like I'd prefer the zinc to the nickel and chrome on a bare metal car because you can get that mirror shine once you polish zinc up, whereas the nickel/chrome doesn't get that nice finish because they are harder to polish. On a related note, watching your new videos is the highlight of my saturday nights.

@joshuawalker70545 жыл бұрын
Cody from Cody's lab did it. It reqires about $300 in gold for the anode and about $100 of gold for the solution. Then the desolving agents are another few hundred dollars. You can see him do it here --> kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYHQe3qFmKeNh6s

The "chrome" turned out really nice too, I'd really love to see what it would look like with a nice spectra flame finish over the top it. I bet it would really pop out at you. Are the die cast cars pot metal? I have a few antique mantle clocks that have cast, pot metal cases. They were originally gold, but have been painted at one point. I'm researching techniques on how to gold plate them. I guess pot metal would need to be plated with something (maybe copper) first, before the gold? Or else the gold would not stick? Is this all correct?

Watching the bit with the copper flames got me wondering. If you masked in a vinyl tape can your hobby laser vaporize that like it does paint. So strip car initial plating, mask, laser the flame pattern, plate with copper, remask and laser the outline of the flames and remove majority of the masking so they are protected and then spectraflame paint. Will the laser blast the spectraflame off? If so what would happen if you plated an exposed area with the rest spectra flame painted

I just won a chrome plated car on Ebay. It's an anniversary edition of the Firebird funny car. The one based on a 77 Firebird. It has a raised Hot Wheels anniversary logo on the roof of the car. But the chrome coat is badly chipped. I assume it's not an actual plate job but more likely a paint. What would be your suggestion on how to refurb that chrome look cleanly? I've watched your playing videos and I have seen people airbrush the chrome Molotow paint to make a chrome look.

The ghost'ish flames are nice. Might be able to figure out a way to nickel then copper the flames over that. Can you remove the nickel or chrome with your laser? Can you copper plate after nickel/chrome plating without plating over the nickel/chrome? So you would end up doing copper plate, nickel or chrome plate, laser design, copper plate design.
