Nice restoration except that I would have preferred the tradional "blackwall" wheels instead of real riders. Classic blackwalls were still being made in the 1990's and so they can be taken from a cheap car.

Very nice restoration. Most resto jobs are easy for me to tell. But not this one. Chrome apparently is easier to mimic than spectraflame paint I've never seen a good spectaflame resto that really looked original, but some are better than others. The other key is the wheels. You chose good repro wheels from a modern hot wheels car that was of a type very similar to the mid 7O's redlines. Most resto jobs use wheels that are easy for me to tell apart from the original.

I realize that this is several years old, but man I appreciate it. I am working up to my first restoration and this helped me learn immensely. Wish me luck and sanity.

Pinned by Plow Bender Studios @baremetalHW 3 months ago Hey Plow, you nailed it with COPPA and viewership numbers. YT no longer supports the videos we make. In fact, video uploading causes me to lose vast chunks of subscribers. YT runs an algorithm that checks all your subscribers and deletes dormant accounts every time you upload. But the big issue is that YT does not want to advertise with our content, and if they can't advertise on your content, then there is no reason to show people that content. I can live with the loss of subs and revenue, but the fact that they won't push the content is very de-moralizing. The deleted videos were removed because they contained music from the "free" YT music library. Every video I have with music has had copyright claims against it. The videos I removed are the videos on which I did not win the claim. It's funny, but baremetalhw is not my first YT channel. I created a channel called myst32yt in October 2006. That channel was based on chemistry and reached 20k subs before I abandoned it. YT had started coming down hard on chemistry channels, and I saw the writing on the wall. I thought, "What content could I create that would be safe from YT's ire?" My young son was into HW and RaceGrooves, and at the time, there were very few videos on customizing HW. So, I figured that would be a "safe" channel to create; YT would never go after that. lol I have thought about returning a few times, but I see stagnant channels every time I go out there. Nobody can get around the issue. When speaking about future changes in the videos you brought up, I had considered pivoting my channel into other areas to move away from a "toy" channel. The plan was to do restorations in other non-toy areas and place these videos between the HW videos to confuse the algorithm. However, it was going so downhill at the time, and the thought of reworking my channel again had left such a bad taste in my mouth that I just threw up my hands. I still have all the items you sent, including the cards. I appreciate you sending them and sincerely apologize for not thanking you properly. I have tried to make things "whole" for those who supported me by shipping off most of the cars in the videos to them. I may come back to YT at some point. I hoped that issues would die off and return to some semblance of what they were before. But this does not seem to be the plan, and with all the safety issues with social media in general, I figure it is just going to get worse. If I did return, I would have to change things up in a way that would get me out of the COPPA grey area. If anyone has any ideas, I am all ears. Thanks for making this video. You can imagine my surprise when it got pushed to my "for you" page. lol, I did a double-take.

The metal bodied cars are made of ZAMAC or ZAMAK alloy. It's an alloy of zinc, aluminum, magnesium and copper and can be diecast easily. Developed in the 1920's it is used for lots of diecast objects. I imagine that the blend of metals will cause different levels of corrosion/aging on the surface over time and knowing what conditions these little hot rods are subject to, that should be expected. I imagine that vacuum plating one car would be extremely expensive so possibly a "chrome" paint undercoat may work if the polishing is not looking good.

Such a great how to video. You did a great job. I recently from a 1969 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow when I went metal detecting. For how long it was likely underground it was actually in decent shape, but I was thinking of restoring it. Question though, do you HAVE to take the tires off? I'd had to give up the original tires which are in great shape, though there's only three. I would like to keep it as original as I can....Thanks again.

When I first watched this I was expecting this to be tongue in cheek, kinda joking, a bit of a meme… I was so happily surprised to see the care that goes into that. It feels like a real car restoration video but scaled down.

Awesome! I remember buying one of these cars new a a kid. Also a red baron and chrome shelby mustang. Picked up a cigar box of heavily used 60's hotwheels for $3 about ten years ago.

I don't know if I just need to try a different non-acetone nail polish or if mattel has changed the way they make colored chrome in the last several years, but this doesn't seem to be working for me. I'm gonna try leaving it overnight in case the nail polish I got just isn't as powerful as the stuff you're using in this video.
@PrestonLKАй бұрын
Update: leaving it overnight did the trick, seems I just had a real weak bottle of nail polish remover.
