Strong advice: If you're into pig farming an animal trailer is a must. The only way to make money from pigs is to sell them, and you don't want to be paying transfer costs, as that directly affects your profit. Other advice: Also because pigs only eat small amounts of potatoes/beets, you don't need to grow the stuff very often. But these crops have no in-game storage, so at first it would appear that you're kind of limited to dumping it on the ground, or using a trailer. However, if a map has a train with a train depot/storage you can store potatoes and beets in these storage facilities, and as far as I am aware they're free! (In FS17 Goldcrest was a good map for this as the pig farm was right across the street from one of the train depots). And there is another way to store small amounts of beets and potatoes - in the shopping section for belt systems, there is a device which makes pallets, you load the device with potatoes or beets and it will create a 2000l crate and fill it. And the crates store far more efficiently than a heaping pile of crop. (personally I tend to use pig food for the beets/potatoes requirements, because the harvesting equipment is so expensive, unless I'm going to be a professional root crop farmer in addition to keeping pigs - another good way to source these crops is to do a harvesting contract, and keep the excess (in crates) for later feed). The whole pig farming thing is a good lesson in how to handle the other livestock too. Back in FS17 I was unaware of animal yard limits, so I was surprised when my sheep on The Old Stream Farm stopped breeding at 100 animals. However, it did become a great source of income, whenever I got to 100 sheep, I'd load up the animal trailer, sell one load, and let the remaining flock fill up the pen. So you increase your income over just wool sales, and keep wool production almost at max levels. Same would hold true for cows, once the pen is maxed, sell a trailer load, and keep breeding!!

@@samantharichardson6956 Auger wagons don't typically store root crops - I believe the Holmer Terra Variant does have a root crop auger (though it may be for only beets(?)), and some mod augers may allow root crops.

Great Video FC, tks a lot! 2 important TIPs:1) to clean all Pens the easiest way to go is with Belt Systems, the Lizard S-710 get all food from the floor at once and unload it in the feeder, you keep it on the side of the food input and when you need to clean you just press B to start the Belt and move it forward to unload. 2) use only one type/class of animal (pink as an example) to increase the reproduccion rate.

Although I have a large pig farm I rarely go above 100 pigs, sell the rest. They will literally eat you out of house and home. At 300 pigs almost all of my crop went to feed the little porkers! 10-day food requirements for 300 pigs is WAY MORE than for just a few. For straw, do away with the straw chopper, bales and other silliness - I grow barley and straw path it with the combine, pick it up with a forage wagon and dump it straight into the pig straw area - easy peasy! Another tip if you have cows is that the forage wagon will clean them up lickety-split and then you can dump right back into the feeding trough but you can't pick up pig food with the forage wagon - bummer. Another Tip: Don't bother loading manure or slurry, Use It Directly! In the setup menu under Helper Slurry and Helper Manure, you can set it to OFF/BUY/Pig Pen or Cow Pen and it will supply the material directly from the particular pen you select. These are vanilla-game options that don't require mods! Would like to see a follow-up video showing some of these tips ;^)

But you do a great job. I watched a video on a game I play on my phone, that guy has several more to watch, his 101 video was soo long I'm afraid to watch the others. I can actually watch yours understand it, not need popcorn and bathroom breaks and go do it in game. Love it.

Started playing a few weeks ago on Ravensport following your tutorials. Started following along on your No Man's Land series and the pig episode brought me here with an interest to get started. Thinking of doing corn, wheat, soy/canola, and pig feed for the root crops as I hate the potato harvest and sugar beets seem too cost-prohibitive at this point. Just wondering where I need to be comfortable to get started. Love your videos.

The great thing about pigs is to get started if you only want to do one crop or two crops and feed them those, pig feed will cover the rest so its only as many crops as you want to grow :)

A super helpful mod for animals is the Broom mod. It allows you to buy a push broom to use in the zones.

Consider adding the AgrarZ Animals Food Pack mod. Making pig food easy. I also set up a belt system to make getting the manure out easy. Milling machine works nicely too, but all I have to do with the belt system is pull up a trailer and it's automatic.

What's the "BGA" not sure where to sell slurry and manure

BGA is the biogas plant and serves as a sell point after you purchase it on most maps, sometimes you can sell manure and slurry at the BGA

Always stayed Way from pigs because cows gives you slurry, manure, and milk. With pigs reproduction rate so quickly may have to get them for selling.

If i have full food troughs for 10 days then sell some pigs, what will happen to the food? Does it just disappear from existance? Does it spill onto the ground effecting cleanliness? Or does it just stay in the trough and take longer for it to start depleting?

Its still there and wont let you add food until it goes below 10 days worth for the pigs you have

I have a knock off wheel went thru Amazon. The side panel is a great thing to have too, I got mine directly thru Logitech Gaming. I dont really use the pedals, found using the keyboard "W" & "S" is easier...plus its hard to mount the pedals if you don't want to mess up your floor
