Great explanation man! I will say, I have done really well with necro over thoughtseize here lately. It's a very good answer to nadu and breach tron, and it's okay against goryo's and even necrodom decks. I just run into the thoughtseize bug way too much but maybe i just have bad luck
@meatmtg3 ай бұрын
Ty! I don't like Necro all that much, a lot of the time it isn't good enough and vs Nadu its likely they can stick a Nadu before you can cast Necro.
@nolanpearson2113 ай бұрын
@@meatmtg i'll agree its much worse on the draw. I've also been running P Tower which has helped me cast it on turn 2 more consistently.

22:08 The math on the land DFCs is basically, we run 21 lands and 4 1cmc dorks because we want to hit our land drops consistently. Adding in an untapped land DFC raises that percentage a bunch, but there are diminishing returns for each additional land, so we only add in 1-4 DFCs, in this case, just 1. It also helps that the MH3 DFCs have reactive answer sides, which make them way better than the zendikar DFC cycles.

Plague engineer also does a good job of stopping eldrazi tokens off Kozilek's Command. I've played different variations of that deck recently and needed to use that mode to ramp faster when tight on mana or after damping sphere, break the ice, etc,. A plague engineer naming eldrazi would have been brutal for those scenario's so I think it's still good to leave in against K Command decks.
@meatmtg3 ай бұрын
Ooo true! 🤔I'll try it out
@JulioDRai3 ай бұрын
Correct me if I'm wrong but even if you pick the "exile a creature" mode with K Command and target the Plague Engineer with it the tokens would still die because of how the card is worded, the modes would resolve in the order "tokens > scry+draw > exile creature > exile gy".
@meatmtg3 ай бұрын
@@JulioDRai I would need to test it! 🤔
@Zauzzie3 ай бұрын
@@JulioDRai Yep! the tokens would be in play a moment while the engineer is and they are resolving, same reason bowman still triggers if they draw and remove him.

I've taken this modern list and have created a Historic version for it on Arena, and it's been great. I'll post the list as a reply to this for anyone that's interested. As for the paper version, I've been between Chatterfang and Woe Strider. Chatterfang goes wide, and Woe Strider has gotten me out of bad draws and synergizes well with Apprentice.
@@PubmasterDrax Played this list a bit and deff felt fun vs the fair decks, I was wondering about the Plague Mare then I had it take out 8 cats vs energy and I'm sold lol without bowmaster I went up to 4 Marionette Apprentice since they are so good with Nightmare Birthing
@PubmasterDrax3 ай бұрын
@@Zauzzie yeah, the Plague Mare is pretty nuts against energy. Admittedly, not having bowmasters means you can up some counts of Innkeeper and Apprentice to 4, but I do like having the Marauder in the main just in case. Glad to hear you're enjoying the deck! Hey man, this was great! Everything was straightforward and very understandable. This version really looks like the Pod toolbox decks of old. The general consensus I get from Discord is that this version plays much easier than the Agatha version, which is why this is the preferred version currently. Do you agree with that?
@meatmtg3 ай бұрын
Ty! I wouldn't say this is the preferred version because its easier. I'm of the opinion that Ritual is very strong and can win a game on its own if left unchecked. Giving yourself a mini 'chord' every endstep if you have a creature is so so good

@@meatmtg I think plague engineer is better than grist right now. It can also target nadu tokens, eldrazi tokens etc. Also not sure but using woe and chatterfang both to be real aggressive might be a good idea🤔
@Renamawn3 ай бұрын
Mr meat i went 1-3 with the old iteration with grist. Went against 2 jeskai controls, and a UW control losing to each. Wrath of the skies just messed this deck up so bad what are we supposed to do against the decks that have 4 of these in the 75? I think of the 12 ppl that showed up to our weekly modern event 8 of them were running at least 2 of those cards.
@meatmtg3 ай бұрын
Wrath is pretty brutal, you have to try and play around it as much as possible via early aggression with bowman & wolves while not playing out too much to the board. Try to keep a haywire in your back pocket to deal with ring. Grist is also great vs them as they don't have much in the way of planeswalker interaction.
@Renamawn3 ай бұрын
@meatmtg darn I was hoping you weren't going to say that xD it just feels bad. You finally resolve a birthing ritual. And you have 4ish creatures and they just cast wrath for WW and use existing energy to clear everything off the board. I played 4C omnath before yawg because of you but with so many wraths in my local meta I'm really split on going back to 4cc :(
@meatmtg3 ай бұрын
@@Renamawn Postboard you take out some number of rituals and just try to play a 'fair' game, using thoughtseize to interact and bowman to pressure. I also like surgical in the MU to hit Rings, Wraths, or Phlage
