I made a mistake: Spending XP on Career skills does in fact cost 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 xp. However non-career skills only cost 5 extra, so 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 xp. (NOT 10, 20, 30, 40, 50) I guess I have done it wrong for a few years. Sorry to my past PCs 😂

It’s all good. When I first got FFG Star Wars F&D(First),Star Wars AoR(Second),FFG Star Wars EOTE(Third). I went through them. I said. A changed the rules a little. To make it funnier. Like if your in any obligation class it cost the same xp, Morality class(Same),Duty class(Same). But if want to go outside the class(Talent)ur in then it’s double. Like let’s ur a Jedi Guardian(Defender).Then want also to be a medic in the duty class then it cost double. U get the medic class skills. And you get the soldier skills too. Makes it funnier. Every PC starts with 200 xp regardless of species. Ur given 3000 credits automatically regardless of class. Every PC uses the human species stats for 10+brawn . 10+will. 4:10 hmm oops forgot I colored print out&colored copied off the pages in those sourcebooks involving character creation, ships and etc. So I don’t have to carry around all those books. Just the important sections in the sourcebooks.

I know this is old, but im watching it now and i was liking the series as a like fill in some gaps for my knowledge, but this is the first of at least 3 errors so far besides the one that was corrected about the xp cost. At about 7:20 you say you dont get the new spec skills as career, but you do. You dont gain the career skills beside your character creation one, but you always get the spec skills as new career skills. It explicitly states it on page 93 for example in edge of the empire rulebook. I am going to keep listening and adding comments about corrections for anyone who finds this series

Hmm well Sir. I home brewed the rules. By matching it up with the no arguments, no fights rule. And it didn’t hold up. So I made it so that u don’t need a bonus. Just automatically give the player 200xp for his species. 3000 credits to use for weapons,gear&equipment for the class. Including, some species have weak stats. It’s gives them a fighting chance. Oh I centered it around the eras clone wars or civil war. So if civil war era the player(s) have access to clone wars tech: spacecraft&some weapons. If clone wars then the player(s) only have access to weapons,spacecrafts&ships of that era. Makes it fun. Also the player gets 120,000 credits to use in mod,upgrades/attachments. The player picks the ship. No need to pay for it in both eras. But for civil war. One minor detail: for any class freighter,any patrol boat class or any transport class the player is out all the cost of the mods,attachments/upgrades. Take ur chances with the GM. Just like the guy who commented before me. So GM just rolls on the obligation,Duty/morality.

Great videos so far, like the pacing, production quality, and emphasis on narrative. This video has a couple corrections to point out however. Regarding non-career skills at 5:52, it's the career cost plus 5xp for each non-career rank, i.e. 10/15/20/25/30 for ranks 1/2/3/4/5, respectively. So while 10xp for rank 1 non-career is double the 5xp cost for in career, it's more of a coincidence and the double cost trend does not continue. About new specializations and career skills at 7:16, characters do gain the skills of a new specialization as career skills for future purchasing, it's just they don't gain any free ranks in them (as was mentioned at 4:05) when buying a new specialization. Any character can only have one career, so it is correct that you do not gain the career skills from a career you're buying a new specialization from. Any ranks bought before don't get a "refund" when they become a career skill, it's just future ranks are cheaper. If any viewers want to read in detail about these then head to "Step 6: Invest Experience Points" in the Character Creation chapter of any core rulebook. The non-career skills are covered by the 4th paragraph under the "Skill Training" section and the specialization career skills are in the 2nd paragraph under the "Acquiring New Specializations" section. The "don't get career's skills when buying a specialization from it" and "no refunds for prior ranks" clarifications are in the FAQ here: edge-studio.net/shares/star-wars/

Ordered the 3 core books, and two supplements (fall of the republic era source book, and Unlimited power). Idea will be in below reply section.

At 7:16 when you say you do not get the career skills for new specializations, unless I am misunderstanding you that is wrong. You do not gain the 8 career skills but you do gain the 4 "bonus" career skills that comes with the specialization as new career skills for yourself. For example Politico would give you Charm, Coercion, Deception, and Know: Core. Page 93 Edge Core, Acquiring New Specializations, second paragraph, second and third sentence.

@@TheTabletopEmpire You’re doing good work and revitalizing the setting for me personally. One of the hardest things for players to wrap their heads around is vehicle combat. If you’d like to collaborate on a mock space battle between imperial and rebel forces, or even a speeder bike race and it’s escalating tensions let me know. I think covering the mechanics during an actual event could help the community. -Corellians

I typically don't during character creation, but will after a few sessions if there is something specific I want
@SterfGoogle10 ай бұрын
You don't start out with a Force Rating of 1, do you? I've only started reading up on everything today, but I see it very explicitly mentioned in the Force Sensitive Emergent and Force Sensitive Exile universal specialisations that you get a Force Rating of 1, if you don't have it already. Similarly, the Careers in Force and Destiny tell you that you start with a Force Rating of 1. Neither Twi'leks, nor Bounty Hunters, nor Survivalists say something similar. So in your example, you should be writing down a 0 at 8:17, right?
@TheTabletopEmpire10 ай бұрын
You start with a rating of 0, unless you get a force sensitive tree then it goes to 1. You increase it from 1 to higher numbers via the Force Rating talent on the force tree.

@TheTabletopEmpire5 ай бұрын
When you select your career and specialization you get free ranks in your choice of the career skills. Choose 1 rank for 4 of the 8 career skills Choose 1 rank for 2 of the 4 specialization skills. If there are repeats, like lets say Deception is listed in your career and specialization, you can choose that skill twice. Though any skill’s rank cannot go above 2 during the character creation process.
@gadsdenviking41599 ай бұрын
I have a question. So i picked Clone for my PC. Page 12 of Rise of the Separatist, (Kamino Training) gives a free Physical Training talent. But i picked Clone Commander talent tree from page 22 of Collapse of the Republic that does not have that talent on that tree. Does it automatically open both talent trees or how is that resolved?
@TheTabletopEmpire9 ай бұрын
You just take a rank of the talent, not on any tree. You just get that individual talent. If you get a tree later that has it and get the talent again, then that would be rank 2.
@gadsdenviking41599 ай бұрын
Cool. My group and I are new to the game. I just bought all of the books and will be GMing for our group. I may come back time from time to ask questions for stuff I am having trouble finding. Can i Take 2 from the top and make two simultaneous "tree branches"?
@TheTabletopEmpire Жыл бұрын
Yep!
@taylorsmith9197 Жыл бұрын
So when buying a new tree from a different career, and say it is your second tree overall, that cost would be 30XP correct? (10 x 2) + 10 = 30. Is that a 1-time XP purchase and then you can just buy talents from that tree like normal for the posted XP price on the boxes in the given Tree?
@TheTabletopEmpire Жыл бұрын
I believe you only get the discount for your starting career
@taylorsmith9197 Жыл бұрын
@@TheTabletopEmpire What do you mean discount? I'm not following. On the talent trees, under each talent it states the cost, going up by 5s as you go down each level of the tree. Those are the prices even in the second tree after you spend that lump sum cost of say 30 XP for your second tree correct?
@TheTabletopEmpire Жыл бұрын
So buying talents on the tree and buying a new tree are two different things. When buying your 2nd specialization tree it costs 10*2, so 20. Your 3rd would be 10*3, so 30. If you are buying a tree from a career you did not start with, buying the new tree would cost an extra 10, so 2nd would be 30, and 3rd would be 40.
@taylorsmith9197 Жыл бұрын
@@TheTabletopEmpire Yes, i was just wanting to clarify that buying access to a tree that isn't your starting tree is just a onetime purchase. Like in our example we've used, 30 XP, and then you can buy the talents from that tree just like normal, correct?

How do you spend xp to get a second career specialist?
@TheTabletopEmpire Жыл бұрын
Buying a 2nd spec in your career: 10 x tree #. 2nd tree is 20, 3rd is 30, etc... If outside your career: +10 to that. So 2nd is 30, 3rd is 40, etc... Buying a new specialization gets you those career skills but no free ranks.
