Taemin has the most supportive parents ever. They were right there for him from the beginning and the first to really notice his huge talent in dancing. Some of their neighbors (or parents’ friends) suggested that he should take the audition to one of the big agencies and he’s mom was the one who took him to SM Saturday’s auditions (one of the most difficult to pass). Taemin is very close to his family and until today they are all (parents plus his older brother) very supportive. They even travel to Japan to his concerts. You should watch the 2 part interview with Ravi (he’s an idol and one of Taemin’s close friends, but he also has his own show where he interviews people). Taemin talked a lot there about his childhood, how he was as a kid and how it all started for him.

All the members of SHINee have their own fandom names. Taemin's fans are called Taemints because when Taemin was younger he used to go around handing out candy to staff members and fans when they did events, and now that he is older, we have adapted the name to also embrace how he is always sweet and yet sharp and cool like mint. Onew's fans are called MVPs because in SHINee's debut "Replay" one of his lines in the song is "Noona you are MVP. (Most valuable Person/ in sports it also stands for Most Valuable Player.)" Jonghyun's fandom is blingers because in Minho's dibidibidis rap there is a line that says "Bling bling is Jonghyun," which was used to show how he has always sparkled with starpower ever since their debut. Key's fans are called Lockets because his name is Key. And Minho's fans are called Flamers because his nickname is Flaming Charisma which represents his passion in life and his drive to always be the best and to always win. The footage of Taemin's early days is the footage you saw in this guide. There isn't a lot of any of the members of SHINee's early days because SM didn't promote the group or even tease to their debut until they actually debuted. And Taemin didn't really become a dancer until he became an SM trainee, so we don't have clips of him in school performing or anything like that because he didn't really perform in public prior to becoming a trainee. (He taught himself how to pop and lock by watching clips of dancers like Kpop idol Bi Rain and Michael Jackson on TV, he never took lessons prior to joining SM.) The few clips we have, which are pretty much the ones you saw, are clips from his weekly evaluations that all of SM's trainees have to go through to show they are progressing, which helps SM decide whether they can stay in the trainee program or whether they get kicked out of the program. It also helps SM decide if the trainee is ready to progress to the next step or even debut. There is a slight error in this video. Taemin's title track "Press Your Number" which is on the same album as "Drip Drop" is the song that was wrote by Bruno Mars, not "Drip Drop". In the opening of the "Other" section in the guide, the MV you see a clip of is from SHINee's fifth Japanese album, called Five and it's the MV for their song "Get the Treasure." As a filmmaker you will love that MV. But you also really need to see the behind the scenes footage from the MV to really see how everything was made. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHKTaZJua91mmrs Yes, in that clip Taemin's pants are ripped wide open. If you look at his crotch, you see a huge black space which is his underwear showing because his pants split right down the middle. However, all the members of SHINee have ripped their pants during concert more than once. SHINee were one of the first male idol groups to start the trend of wearing skinny jeans, so their pants are really tight. And SHINee are also known for their complex choreography which has them spreading their legs a lot, so they often tear their pants. That happens more than you think to Kpop stars. I can think of a dozen or more idols that have stories about ripping their pants during concerts. And some are more scandalous than others. LOL That last cip was a clip of Taemin's appearance on a Japanese variety show during one of his solo promotions and he was demonstrating how strong he was. Because Taemin is so thin, with a dancers body, they were all shocked by how muscular he was. Which is also part of what has played into his body-image issues. A lot of people see his appearance at first glance and thing he is skinny and tiny and fragile looking, but what they fail to realize is that he has a dancers body which means his body is all muscle and he is extremely strong. (The other people on that TV show asked him to show his strength while adding dance moves, so that is why he was doing that.)

Taemin actually up to date has 11 solo albums (including EPs) and numerous singles. In SHINee the best cook is probably Key. He even had his own cooking show where he cooked for guests. Next would probably be Onew cause the boys mentioned that Onew is good at Korean dishes as well as baking.

Yes, you will see in SHINee's early days Taemin didn't have a whole lot of lines in their songs. People even used to make fun of Taemin's singing and they would say that he was tone deaf and couldn't sing. However, it's sort of a misconception that Taemin "couldn't sing." it wasn't that he couldn't sing, it was just that he debuted when he was so young -- he was only 14 years old -- that his voice hadn't really developed yet and he didn't really have a good grasp of how to use his voice and produce the sounds he wanted with it. So, in the beginning, when he sang he was often flat or his voice cracked or he was off key or out of tune, etc. And because he was being compared to the other members of SHINee who are all 2 to 4 years older than him, and the other members had such phenomenal voices to start out with, it really made Taemin sound like he was lacking. That's why in SHINee's first few songs you will see that he only has a few lines, and most of the time he was just given big solo dance breaks to fill the stage at his parts in the song. However, if he was really tone deaf he never would have become an SM Idol trainee -- SM would have put him on the dance track and probably steered him toward becoming a backup dancer -- and he definitely would have never become the amazing singer that he is today. Someone who is truly tone deaf is physically unable to hear the difference in the notes and is unable to carry a tune. But as you saw, Taemin really wanted to prove to everyone that he wasn't just a dancer, so he spent a lot of extra time concentrating on vocal lessons and the other SHINee members -- especially Onew and Jonghyun -- spent some serious time coaching and mentoring him until he learned what it took to match their vocal range and to use his voice. If you notice, Taemin's style of singing, especially in SHINee songs, is a lot like Jonghyun -- SHINee's main vocalist, and one of the best vocalists in the industry. And once you watch more of SHINee, you will see that Taemin fills in for Jonghyun whenever Jonghyun was unable to participate in a performance. And even today, Taemin often takes over the high notes and the parts that I think would probably have been Jonghyun's parts in their new songs. Jonghyun was the one that really took Taemin under his wing and helped him to become the singer and performer that he is today. So, many think that Taemin's voice emulates Jonghyun because he is the one that taught Taemin to sing. Jonghyun has always been Taemin's biggest supporter and the one that rooted for him the hardest and loudest out of anyone. It is a well known fact among long time fans that for most of SHINee's career Taemin struggled with being an introvert and he often never spoke in interviews and on variety shows unless spoken to. He would let the other members carry the conversation.The members often talk about how they would have to prompt him to get him to speak. He is also known for telling a story or answering a question in an interview and half way through the story, he would stop speaking and just go quiet again. The other members often had to fill in the blanks for him and nudge him to get him to focus and keep on talking. It wasn't until around 2014 when Taemin had his solo debut and he had to start doing promotions and interviews by himself that he really forced himself to change and to come out of his shell. This was also part of the reason why Taemin struggled with self-image issues, where he worried about the fact that people always saw him as weak and helpless and often only knew him for his looks. This is the reason why Jonghyun wrote "Pretty Boy" for Taemin because Jonghyun wished the public would be able to see and understand the Taemin, he knew as a strong and masculine guy, and to stop looking at him as just a fragile "pretty boy." This is part of the duality that is Taemin's personality. When not on stage performing, Taemin is a completely different person, and the Taemin you see when he is just hanging out with his members, isn't necessarily what he shows to the general public. But when Taemin is with the other members of SHINee he often still reverts back to being the baby of the group and just lets the rest of the members take on the responsibility of carrying the conversations in interviews, etc. It is not uncommon to see Taemin off in his own little world during interviews, he even still does it as a member of SuperM. Taemin will always have that maknae mindset no matter who he is with. Which is one of the reasons he turned down the role as the leader of SuperM, because he is much more comfortable as the maknae and didn't feel prepared for the leader role, etc. Another thing to note, as you know, Taemin and Kai are best friends and they are so much alike that they are actually known as twins -- they are literally almost identical in every way. Kai and Taemin trained together and went to school together after they joined SM. Taemin is about 6 months older than Kai, so Taemin entered the company first when he was around 11 years old in 2005 and then Kai became a trainee a short time later when he was around 11/12 years old in 2006. However, Taemin debuted almost exactly 4 years before Kai. So even though they are friends from the same generation, Taemin is considered Kai's senior. Taemin and Kai really do mirror each other in more than just their dancing. :D When on stage they both become the most brilliant performers that command the stage, but the minute they walk off the stage they become quiet and shy and soft spoken. The have the drive to constantly be working in order to become the best at everything they do, but they are super humble and never take anything for granted, etc. They are also the youngest/ almost youngest members in their respective groups and their personalities are so similar that it's easy to see why they are so close. And when Kai and Taemin are together it's often as if they share one brain. Which makes them even more cute, sweet and very endearing. Kai and Taemin are so much alike in looks, same age group, dancing skills, background, family dynamics, personality, etc. -- they even have some of the same mannerisms, personality traits and nicknames. (You really should see some of their pictures together when they were younger you would be surprised how much they look alike.) As a fan, Taemins growth has always been so special and fascinating to me. He was seen as very feminine and pretty and he disliked it when he was young becuase he had no real control over his image and was shut into the box of being a pretty boy. but as he grew, he was able to explore that more androgynous side to himself, accept it, use it for his own artistsy and show everyone that he was more than just a pretty face, that masculinity could look and mean something different and that artistry doesn't have to be defined by gender.

fun fact about shinee: they were supposed to be a hip hop group with little vocals. there were 2 options for the debut song: replay and a rap focused song. the boys actually werent able to sing replay back than but they trained so hard to be able to, thats why their debut song ended up being replay and they ended up not being a hip hop group. oh, and taemin was 14 when he had his debut. :)

maybe it sounds naive, but i firmly believe that shinee will still love each other 20, 30, 40+ years from now. they're a family, there's no other way to describe it. and they worked at that love! they nurtured it, and built it over many years. that kind of love doesn't fizzle out easily. taemin himself, when asked about something he wants to keep in his heart years from now, said that he wants to still have the members close to his heart. he said he wants them to always be together, even when they get too old to promote and have their own families. he even wants them to live next to each other 😂 few groups have a bond like shinee do.

Taemin mention on one interview that he audition to SM to skip school and also because he love's dancing.He passed the audition at the age of 11 and trained for 3 year's.He is basicallt tone deaf and he kept practicing singing on top of SM building where he met Onew who offered to give him voice training without knowing they would be on the same group.There are only 2 person in SM that Lee Sooman chosen himself and 1 of them is Onew.He accidentally hear Onew sing when they've done shooting SNSD MV on Onew's school and so he asked Omew to come to SM and let him signed conyract immidietely the day after.When they debuted Taemin is 14,since 11 he already left home and is living on SM Dorm and since then SHINee member's literally raised him.As what Onew said,they literally live together longer than with their own family.Onew cooked his food,Key iron's his uniform and they would all walk him to school.Imagine doing training and attending School at the same time.But Taemin did it all,he already had a degree and is known not only in Korda but Worldwide.SHINee and Taemin are most famous in Japan,solding out 55,000 seat's (Tokyo Dome) just for a mere fanmeet.Taemin and SHINee also known as king of Live Performances and Idol's idol.His/Their hardwork rdally pay's off.Taemin and SHINee is still going strong even after more than 13+ year's in the industry because it is their passion.They love what they do and so people love them for what they are.Best boy's ever.

you already reacted to that mv you mentioned “get the treasure” lol 😆 unfortunately taemin or even shinee doesn’t have much predebut content bc they debuted very young and there weren’t many records at that time. some facts about taemin’s family: they weren’t well off but they supported him a lot and probably spoiled him bc he’s the youngest in his family (he has an older brother). he attended dance lessons in like grade 3 bc he didn’t want to go to school. 😂 he said he already hated the daily routine of life since kindergarten. his mom promised to get him out of school if he tried auditioning and focused on dancing. he got into sm in 2006 but ended up attending school anyway. 😝 he got in via sm’s weekly audition (they held it every Saturday). there are only a few idols who passed weekly auditions bc it’s like an open interview they held every week and not a contest. he became one of the youngest and richest idol in 2011 where he bought a huge ass house for his family which costs like 2M $ or something. sadly, taemin was bullied at school for being an idol and was kind of a loner. he also had to pause school too bc of schedules. 😞 but he did graduated high school and then attended college and now he has a master’s degree. he once flew back and forth between japan and korea bc he had an ongoing concert tour AND college exams! fun fact : all of shinee has master degrees of their own in art, music or acting. 😁

I would recommend his interview with Ravi from VIXX if you want to know about his past. Old video content would be more or less censored because they all had "roles" they had to act in the past so you wouldn't be seeing their authentic selves. For example, Minho had to play the role of the cool and silent type when he was the complete opposite of that.

Yellow is his color in SHINee. He doesn't particularly like it. He's said in the past that school bored him and he wanted to be an idol to get out of it. That he's so reasonably well-adjusted says a lot about himself, SHINee, his family, and his friends. it's so impressive. And he educated himself so well - he knows loads about music, science, and art. Jonghyun wrote Pretty Boy for him as a kind of anthem, him owning his androgyny.

Just to clear a couple things up, Lee is his last name. Asian cultures put the last name first. "Taemints" come from the fact that when they first debuted, SM didn't do many promotions for SHINee, but Taemin would carry around a bag full of mints and hand them out to people when they were out and about. Regarding his singing, SM didn't want him to sing because he had immature vocal cords and stressing them could cause permanent damage. In addition, Taemin didn't know how to sing at that time. One thing I didn't like about SM was the fact that they highlighted and capitalized upon Taemin's prettiness. Early on SM (never the members) pushed his "androgynous" looks to the point that it gave Taemin a complex. Even variety shows participated in "bullying" in this way, as you saw from the "Weekly Idol" clip. Taemin kept stressing he was MAN and desperately wanted to become more "masculine" looking like Minho, but his body frame is not the same as Minho's. Seeing Taemin's distress upset Jonghyun a lot to the point where he wrote "Pretty Boy" for him. Later on, Taemin accepted his androgynous looks. Regarding the crop-top look for men; Kai (Taemin's BFF) wore one first, then Taemin. Not sure if anyone did it before Kai. Taemin is very private about his personal life and that of his family so it's extremely rare for him to talk about the subject, however, one interview where we get a glimpse of his childhood is when Taemin talks with one of his best friends, Ravi of VIXX, during a 2020 interview with Taemin on Ravi's show. It was a very comfortable and candid interview where, in Part 1, Taemin talks a little about his childhood and what led him to the audition with SM. I think the reason will really surprise you. I don't want to get technical about this because it's not really important, but crop tops have been worn for years by idols and more, even before Kai. I'd say Kai made them part of his image and general use, but Taemin had already worn crop tops before him in 2012 and 'controversial' clothing that SM stylists gave him to wear. Unlike Kai, which is something that he promoted on his own, the clothes that were imposed on Taemin during his career while being a minor... but anyway, Crop tops were worn years before by other idols, such as TVXQ in the 2000s something if my memory is not getting it wrong :D

Actually, Taemin wasn't tone deaf. For some reason, media and public at that time called him that. From what I know/read (forgot the source, it's years ago) the condition of Taemin's voice during puberty was harder to train compared to other trainees, that's why he was given little vocal training by SM. But Onew and Jonghyun helped him as vocal coach haha.. After he passed puberty stage, he trained his vocal really hard, then the rest is history..

Yes he was young for sure but it's no different to athletes (gymnasts, ice skaters etc...) who train and compete from a very young age even younger than Taemin was when he started.

NAME STRUCTURE: Within Asian cultures, names are ordered by the family name first and the given name second as a means to pay respect to their ancestors. So Taemin is his actual first name and Lee is his last name. KR: Lee Taemin US: Taemin Lee

COLOR: SHINee debuted during the 2nd generation of K-Pop when things were still a bit more simply old fashioned and not as fancy/complex as today with all the superpowered alien virtual concept backstories for groups and all that. So basically for SHINee, they just got individual colors that represent each member and Taemin's designation was Yellow. They honestly don't really bring it up or use it very much for comebacks or anything so it's just a loose background thing. Taemin's favorite color is actually purple.

TRAINING: K-Pop labels put idol trainees through an organized training system after signing them on with housing via dorms provided along with all other essential resources like lessons with professional instructors, access to vocal and dance practice rooms, and etc but it's ultimately up to the individuals themselves on how hard they want to work for their dream (hence many trainees quitting and leaving or switching companies) so Taemin's the main player here. There's been many stories about how him and his 2 best friends (EXO's Kai and HOTSHOT's Timoteo) during their trainee days would hide or sneak back into the SM building even after it closed and everybody else left just so they could keep practicing in the dance and vocal rooms by themselves until they fell asleep there overnight too. Literally zero to hero like you said with Taemin going from being labeled "tone-deaf" with no vocal lines in SHINee's debut song to later becoming a main vocalist in that same group, a lead vocal in the supergroup SuperM, and a powerfully/iconically recognizable voice through his solo work as well all through the product of pure raw hard work.

I love Taemin so much but Taemin acting for drama looks truly silly. Rain is one of the pioneers in K-pop dancer-singer solo. Earliest days of Boa belongs to his generation.
