I took a trip to the Goldhawk Road with Elspeth to source some lovely fabrics for a few patterns I wanted to try. I thought I'd take you with me and show you some of my favourite shops.

Went to Goldhawk Rd on 18th July 2019 for the first time - it looks like A One Fabrics are either closing down (although open, the shop was basically empty with no stock and the signage had been taken down) or relocating - I was looking forward to going there too. But the road has so many choices, it was a great day!

I love the picture style too but it does not give a good example of the actual garment. See my knitting and stitch video due to be uploaded on Monday and you will see what I mean as I bought a few of their patterns based on seeing the garments in the flash

I'm a Londoner, and I've recently got into serious sewing, so although I know about Goldhawk Road, I've never been. I think it's time to take a trip. Thank you this insight.

Hi Claire, good vlog. You should also try the east end for fabrics. Woolcrest Textiles at 6 Well Street E9 7PX, just off Mare Street, is popular with small suppliers and fashion students and the prices are excellent.

I've just enjoyed watching this video that you made a while ago and found it informative, engaging and thoroughly entertaining. I'm just amazed at the negativity and rudeness of another watcher and I hope it doesn't put you off X

Beautiful Things The discussion about stylised drawings as opposed to photos is good, but it's such bad manners for her to make negative personal comments on somebody else's channel .So patronising too, you don't need to "grow and develop" just stay exactly as you are.. Look forward to watching more X

Ah this was a lovely video. Am visiting my bro next month and a girl in my sewing class said I must go to Goldhawk Road. Am a novice sewer, but love looking at fabric even though I have no ideas in mind for projects. Shops here in Dublin are like hen's teeth, so can't wait to visit, and your video has certainly increased the anticipation of my whole Thursday afternoon ambling from one shop to another, not to mention the trip down the market and visiting the haberdashery stalls. Your accent is very pleasant to listen to, so going to surf now for videos of your sewing projects. Many many thanks :-)

Claire, had the most wonderful day going through most of the shops. Bought myself a bit of a stash!. About two weeks beforehand I watched Katharine Hepburn in 'Guess Who's Coming To Dinner'. In her opening scene she was wearing this most fantastic black coat - kinda military style with a standing up high collar. But for me it was the lining that caught my eye - large white squares with black boarders. Later she took it off and had on a waist coat type top - and again, for a short few seconds, one could see a beautiful very colourful lining. To me, these were what elevated the garments for good to great. So sourced a nice navy textured knit fabric and went on the hunt for a lining. Saw the last of a fab harlequin fabric, but it was quite damaged with loads of thread pulls, but then came upon another fab orange fabric with sky-blue motifs thru it and I knew straight away that was what I wanted. But I have to wait until next Oct before I can take classes again to get crackin' on it. Can't wait. Again, thanks a mil for the introduction to GH Rd. Ciao for now, Muireann :-)

Thanks for the tour of Goldhawk rd I hear a lot about it on vlogs and it was nice to see it. You have picked some lovely fabric. I would love to make palazzo pants but I am very short legged so think I would be swamped by them :( The last pattern I measured myself for trousers my leg length wasn't even on the pattern!!.... by a long way *milk bottle legs* Enjoy your visit with M-I-L she is escaping our rotten weather.

Next time you go to the Goldhawk Road park at the Westfield Shopping Centre as it's under £9 for the whole day. If you use the 'White City' walking exit it's a five minute walk to the top of Goldhawk Road.

I completely disagree that the sew over it drawings put people off. In my opinion they make the brand. Lisa has done a fantastic job growing sew over it and her videos and content demonstrate what a brilliant business woman she is. I love her videos, she really thinks about her outfits, her appearance and they are brilliantly put together, fantastically edited and not condescending in the slightest....unlike yours I'm afraid to say.

I love almost everything about sew over it please don't get me wrong. Lisa is a great business woman and deserves to do well as she puts in 100%. I just think she could sell even more patterns if she used her beautiful photographs of the outfits they really sell the garments. Proof in the pud in that I only bought the wrap dress when I saw it in person. I vlog for fun and not for business and everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Thanks for watching.

+Beautiful Things you mention so many of their patterns throughout this video and others that it is clear you are a fan which is nice, I just think the way you put it in the video came across wrong. I always stick by the mantra "people in glass houses". Have fun vlogging, I look forward to watching you grow and develop 🙃😀

I certainly am a fan Helen, if you watch my makes videos from the start you will see I often mention their products alongside many many others. I like to be honest in my reviews and my opinions. It's like the people who only ever post bad reviews on trip advisor. I tell it like it is good or bad and I always state that it's my opinion and encourage everyone to make their own. Happy viewing.

I think we are all definitely different in what makes us buy a pattern. I truly prefer to see the line drawings in order to view where the seams and details lie. Many photographs just don't show the details. After so many years of sewing, I can pretty much visualize what the garment will look like without a photo. Thanks for sharing.
@BeautifulThingscraftandsewing

+spatch1000 i need to see the line drawings too to make a decision on a pattern. But these drawings are sketches on the front not the line drawings on the back. There are no photos at all
