Norwegian band formed in Oslo in 1982. Founded by Morten Harket (vocals, guitars), Magne Furuholmen (keyboards) and Paul Waaktaar-Savoy (guitars), the band rose to fame during the mid-1980s after being discovered by musician and producer John Ratcliff, and continued its global success in the 1990s and 2000s.
A-ha have sold 55 million records worldwide. A-ha achieved their biggest success with their debut album Hunting High and Low in 1985. That album peaked at number one in their native Norway, number 2 in the UK, and number 15 on the US Billboard album chart; yielded two international number-one singles, "Take On Me" and "The Sun Always Shines on TV"; and earned the band a Grammy Award nomination as Best New Artist. In the UK, Hunting High and Low continued its chart success into the following year, becoming one of the best-selling albums of 1986. In 1994, after their fifth studio album, Memorial Beach, failed to achieve the commercial success of their previous albums, the band went on a hiatus.
Following a performance at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in 1998, the band returned to the studio and recorded their sixth album, 2000's Minor Earth Major Sky, which was another number-one hit in Norway and resulted in a new tour. A seventh studio album, Lifelines, was released in 2002, and an eighth album, Analogue, in 2005, was certified Silver in the UK - their most successful album there since 1990's East of the Sun, West of the Moon. Their ninth album, Foot of the Mountain, was first released on 19 June 2009 and returned the band to the UK top 5 for the first time since 1988, being certified Silver there and Platinum in Germany. The album peaked at number 2 in Norway (their first release not to reach number one in their home territory).
On 15 October 2009, the band announced they would split after a worldwide tour in 2010, the Ending on a High Note Tour. Thousands of fans from at least 40 different countries on six continents congregated to see A-ha for the last leg of the tour. On 4 December 2014, A-ha officially announced its participation at Rock In Rio 2015 which celebrated 30 years for both the band and the event. In 2015, it was announced that A-ha would re-unite for two years. Their tenth studio album, Cast in Steel, was released on 4 September 2015. A tour, named for the album, in support of the album happened in autumn 2015 and March-May 2016.
The band has released ten studio albums, several compilations and four live albums. In less than a year, during 2010, the band earned an estimated 500 million Norwegian Kroner from concert tickets, merchandise and the release of a greatest hits album, making them one of the 40-50 largest grossing bands in the world. The band were listed in the Guinness World Records book for having the biggest rock concert attendance; they drew an audience of 198,000 at Maracanã Stadium during Rock in Rio festival. Another record for the band is for lead singer Morten Harket, who was (and is still) listed in the Guinness World Records book in 2001 for the longest live note held; he held a note in "Summer Moved On" for 20.2 seconds.

Je me rappelle quand le 2eme album est sorti je l'ai acheté en cassette audio, et j'ai couru à la voiture de mes parents pour le decouvrir. Je me rappelle à quel point je trouvais cela avant gardiste, futuriste, hyper créatif, fabuleux, incroyable de qualité, les compos, les arrangements, les nouvelles harmonies que je n'avais jamais entendues nulle part, la voix de Morten vraiment INCROYABLE. Cet album est la plus Grosse CLAQUE musicale de ma vie. Et c'est aussi l'album qui a accompagné, heureusement, mon adolescence de solitude.

When M.does'nt wear his earplugs,you know it's most likely playback.I was very young back then,but from the concerts I've seen online from that time era(80's) in spesific,too many artists used playback,to me it does'nt matter if an artist is out of tune a few times during a show,or even messes up the lyrics once or twice;the quality of the show itself matters tho'& with this I'd rather listen to the record itself...than pay to see three handsome lads,A-ha can do so much better than this...

@@rebeccajelenawang4306 I agree 💯👍 with you. Regardless there's a lot of concerts during the 80's where Morten didn't used them. And sometimes you can hear some out of tune but singing out of his range many times as Pal and Mags demand from him composing the songs to make his high falsettos, you can't blame the guy. I can give you a couple of links where his voice is unbelievable. I don't like playbacks that's all. All this whole thing of playbacks I think he or the band was taking care of his voice, probably saving energies, the logistics were too complicated or probably a money issues too. Who knows. Morten forget the lyrics often and it's funny. Mainly he is not the main songwriter, that made it a little bit difficult too for him but what Pal and Mags demands of his voice is because they know he has a unbelievable voice and use that resource (Morten said that during a concert after the long note in Summer Moved On "That was Paul trying to keeping me young"...I think he said that. My english is not the best as you can see Anyway without Morten and his voice their songs would not be the same. Even they're fantastic musicians I mean Pal and Mags. In facts there are a few little concerts of them all making playback. I've seen them live in 2010 and I can assure you Morten does things even Freddie Mercury never did. And before I was there other people watching A-ha concerts, musician by the way all of them, told me that, so I was hmmm..."ok gotta check it out that for myself" and they're were right. For an example Morten in his solo career he don't go so high pitching high notes. And the same in his own concerts. Nice to talk with other a-ha fan!!

You definately made some plausible points.You probably know more about A-ha than I do...I'm actually half Scandinavian;moved back to Norway a few yrs.ago.Also had my kids over here.(Their dad is half Norwegian too)Did'nt really "discover"A-ha as a group until like 20 yrs.ago or so;(which is a bit funny since my gran remembered Mags & Paul needed a place to practice when they were still in their early/mid teens;She was the owner of a youthclub in the surberbs,also I noticed Morten twice or so at this place when he was dating this blonde,sweet woman,I think her name was Anne something)Anyway;was on a train in Austria when these guys from Chile & Argentina was looking through my CDs';-)& recognized A-ha.I listened to Scroundrel days" all the way back to Oslo,Norw.along with some other favorites of mine.Facinated with the fact that they still are able to co-operate somehow/do concerts & stuff despite their differencies.I don't really fancy one over another.They all have something very unique about/to them:-)💯🖌

Yes,my granma used to own this youthclub.She'd often tell stories,& one of them was when she offered one of the boys(or both)a place to practice.She was definately one of a kind.Stubborn,drank lots of wine,a painter/artist born during WW1 & rode a Harley in the military...She passed🙏🏼⚘🕊🍃back in May 95',I was only 18,still surprised how many Ppl.who remember her after all these yrs.She was like a mama to me(& some of them)after all. I'm afraid I don't have many pics' from that era.Mostly memories.(She lived very close to Påls family BTW) I remember A-ha"Take on me"mostly due to the music video.I was furious when the mag(lady)was thrown in the trash.Along with Mags' keyboard tunes"it was a thiller for a 8/9 yr.old.😲🗑🤣 And the final hallway scene made it compelete😖🥴😉🤗 I think A-ha were more or less blessed to find the guys behind this idea. I know they made it big in South America🙂 There's a thing in Norw.You're not supposed to stand out.Wear black,beige or grey & blend with the crowd kind of thing.It does'nt fit me very well. I've met several known Ppl.Or extreamly wealthy.But also some very poor ones.Ppl.living in cardboards,with the most amazing talents.Maybe that's why I've never been starstruck...🤔Ppl.are...people.More or less fortunate & so on.I saw Mort.twice at this place with his late,blonde girlfriend.I was dating the DJ for a brief periode of time.M.looked very good back then(late 90's)I think he knew it tho' Happened to watch some interviews during lockdown & even though he's the ultimate "fogprince"to many,I find him intelligent & interesting.Probably hard to live with,but behind every strong man there's a strong woman.So they say😉Yes,his voice is still very good Indeed.And he said he forgets lyrics because his thoughts..🤔 are going for walks at times.ADD/Asberger light combined ¿?🤷‍♀️My kids' dad graduated one yr.earlier than M.Same school.Only one yr.but still.Even played bass.He says he was one of a kind already back then.Well,so was he;but... If I'm not telling you something stupid, the group started its first world tour in June 1986 in Australia. Here it's a montage (I think). But it doesn't matter, because this group has done a lot of great tours in Oceania, Japan, Russia, Europe, Latin America, South Africa, North America, Israel, and some Arab countries...In 1986, not everyone had semi-professional equipment to record very clear images and sound for concerts, except professionals🎶👍🏻😎
