I use the X100V as my “23” and it’s amazing. It’s one of my favorite focal lengths. I shot a whole wedding with just my X100 and my XT3 and it was perfect. X100 was my 23, and I used the 35 and the 56 on my XT3. Im about to leap to the XT4 and the 33mm 1.4. I love, love, LOVE Fuji!

Good video, I photographed events for 5 plus years, I got involved in digital photography about 15 years ago and I was looking for a way that I could have more control over the final product, prior to using a digital camera I used film and just had Kodak do my prints, 4x6 & 5x7, I was never happy with what I got but it was a time when I just took snap shots. When I got involved in digital photography I was 50 years old and I wanted to get more serious so I decided to print my own work. I had a lot to learn about digital cameras, post processing and printing but over time it all came together. About the 7 year mark of photographing many different subjects, I was asked to photograph the Memorial day event where I worked, it was a two hour out doors event that had many different aspects to photograph, the hardest part was to photograph the event in a way that would tell the story of the event without being a distraction .I photographed the event for eight consecutive years along with a few weddings and and other projects where I worked, two years before I retired and for three years after I photographed weddings, baptisms, birthdays, portraits and family photos . While many photographers photographed events with a 35 and 85 mm lens, I found that to restrictive I worked by myself so I needed something wider and longer to take the photos that I felt would tell the story of the event. I used Pentax cameras and Sigma and Pentax glass, I used two crop sensor bodies until Pentax came out with the K1 MKII and with that camera and a K3 l could use the same glass on both bodies to give me a wider variety of photos. over the years I developed a bad case of gas and my Pentax collection exploded to include, Panasonic, Olympus and Fujifilm cameras in full frame, APSC and micro 4/3. I seldom leave home without a camera.

New to your channel and love your videos. I have the 33 1.4 and looking to sell my 16 and 23 to finance the new 18 1.4. Do you think I’ll be missing out on not having a 23mm lens or will I be able to handle wedding and portraits with the 18 and 33 instead?
@philporto

thanks so much! I do not think you will be missing out. Both are great lenses but for me, the 18 and 33 is the perfect combo. Rent it out for one shoot and see what you think before selling.

Already have the 33 so this lens would be redundant for me as the focal length's are too close. The temptation is real though.... lol. God bless as well!

@@ramoftherose the focal lengths are not close. Well at least not between 23 and 35. I don’t know where this myth came from. If anything they are the most different focal lengths because they are at the transition from wide to telephoto. 23mm = very mild wild angle, suitable for environmental portraits, group portraits esp. indoors, travel, landscapes, street. 33/35mm = very mild telephoto, suitable for individual portraits (good compression, no distortion, even for head and shoulders), outdoor people photos, products. With both, you can do everything and have very natural looking photos.

I just got a Fuji XT5 and it’s really good. Selling my XT3 and likely gonna fund a third lens. Right now I have the 33 (incredible) and the new 56 (fantastic lens). I am between the 18 and 23. I have the X100 and I LOVE that camera for so many things. And I love the 35 equivalent focal length but I must admit I’m leaning towards the 18, as the 28 was my favorite environmental portrait and travel lens back in my 35mm days. I’d love your thoughts.

@babyboy1971

@@michaelb9940 I had to wait on lens expenditures due to finances being tight for the moment but I’m doing great with the XT5, 33 and 56 and the X100V is my “third lens”. When I do get a new lens, it’s likely going to be a 18 for sure. I mostly do headshots and portraits so it’s not a priority but I am definitely going to pick up the 18 at some point. If I did not have the X100, it would be a harder choice, because the 23 is a great length. Really, 18 or 23, both great. But the 18 gets so many good reviews. Fuji’s new lenses are so good. Especially on the XT5. Fast to focus, beautiful images and sharp as a tack. As for the new 23 vs old, I don’t know. I will say that I moved from the X100F to the X100V and the upgrade on THAT 23 is INSANE! It’s literally twice as sharp, even wide open, and focus is really fast, it’s incredible for a compact camera lens.

@philporto
@philporto 2 жыл бұрын
honestly, can't go wrong on either as far as quality. It will just be which focal length fits your style best. Id rent and do a side by side comparison of which produces the image that best fits who you are as a photographer.

This lens also has a bit of noticeable barrel distortion. Quite weird when Fuji's new 18mm f1.4 virtually has none. Hope they rerelease a better version of this 23mm ii.
