I love 84 Charing Cross Road! I’m not much of a rereader but I’ve read it several times, it’s one of those books that you don’t want to put down once you’ve picked it up. The movie is also lovely. The producer Mel Brooks bought the movie rights as a birthday present for his wife, Anne Bancroft, because she loved the book so much!

Oh no:/ I wrote a long comment about swedish authors I would recommend as a swede but I think it disappeared so I will try again:) For more modern ones: Ia Genberg Sigge Eklöf Karin Smirnoff Ann-Helen Laestadius (sami-swedish writer) Andrev Walden also has a book that is super popular in sweden and that is being translated to english next summer (Bloody men is the english title) Classical ones: Karin boye- Kallocain (you can find it in a penguin black classic edition) Moa Martinsson- Women and Appletrees Hjalmar Söderberg- Doctor Glas Astrid lindgren (yes they are children books but they are still amazing) If you are able to purchase from outside of the nordics I would also recommend novellix since they have collections of shortstories from swedish authors in english and also very nice bookends:) Hope Something of this may be interesting for you or other:)

I love books unbound, I watch it every week, they are great! 84 Charing Cross Road is one of my favorite books. I love it. There is a great adaption, with Anne Bancroft, Anthony Hopkins and Judi Dench, it is super if you ever get a chance you might like to watch it. As a side note, Anne Bancroft was obsessed with the book, and Mel Brooks her husband bought it as a love gift to Anne to play Helene Hanff .

I who have never known men is one of my absolute favorite reads from this year, 5 stars, so special. It's melancholic but also hopeful at the same time - I could not put it down and had to stay up til 4 am to finish it. Can't wait to see how you feel when you get to it!

I have not seen that cover for ‘Lessons in Chemistry’ but it does look very festive, that book is also on my TBR. See if you can find the one with the sprayed edges, it’s hardback and has the chemical symbols in blue, running down the side of the pages. By coincidence, the 1st book you mentioned by Susannah Clarke, I picked that very book up from the library this morning. I am going to read it once I have finished my current read ‘ Listen for the lie’. The Susannah Clarke book looks enchanting. I’ve not read any others of hers yet. I think you will love 84 Charing Cross Road it’s probably now a classic, the relationship that develops between the lady in the US and bookseller in the U.K. is beautiful and I think you will appreciate it How beautiful that it is snowing after you put your Christmas tree up, so festive and cosy 🎉

84 Charing Cross Road is fun and a delightful read! It is nicely paired with a middle grade book that I love - A Place to Hang the Moon - Kate Albus (if you haven't already read it). That one reminds me a lot of Kate Dicamillo's style of writing and has nods to Narnia.

I knew you were going to say Ariel and Rayleen as you began your introductory comments!! I love their banter and their friendship, as when you and Emma get together…you are all a delight to watch. I am still in the midst of Howl’s Moving Castle, relegating myself to a chapter a day throughout the month. I loved 84, Charing Cross Road, and I will be adding the Swedish Christmas book to my wishlist. Thank you for a lovely video, as always!!📚❤️

You will love 84, Charing Cross road. Well, I did anyway. The movie with Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins was also very good. It’s a memoir by Hanff. Helene is actually searching for rare and antiquarian books, not contemporary novels. It’s a quick read. 💜

I picked up a Dianna Wynne Jones book (Fire and Hemlock) the other day in a local book swap station. I've never read a DWJ book before. I need to get to The Winners (the final in Frederik Backman's Beartown trilogy) while the other books are fresh in my mind, and I read the other two last year. I'm considering re-reading The Magic Toyshop or The Bloody Chamber even though there are soooooo many books on my shelves I haven't yet read.

I love beautiful books. Everything Brian Selznick is immediatley a beautiful book. The handwritten. Have you seen The Handwritten Classics/Barbara Heller editions, with the pull out letters and ephemera? They've done Pride and Prejudice, Persuasian, Emma, Sense & Sensibility, Anne of Green Gables, Little Women, I'm not sure what else.

@@jmsl_910 Hi, thank you for kindly bringing this to my attention. Did Carolyn herself say something to indicate this somewhere? If so, I do sincerely apologize, as I clearly missed it. if not, please do consider that this might be your own projection. I think sadly the internet has become an hyper-sensitive place where a girl calling another girl adorable on her public platform can be seen as a problem. Maybe I am missing something here, but I cannot possibly think of what is wrong with saying "you're such a cutie patootie" to someone, as in my mind that's one of the most lighthearted and innocent things to call someone. Sure the comment in itself doesn't express the real extent of my thoughts and sentiments; I think she's a wonderful girl with a beautiful passion, and the joy and excitement she speaks about her books and the artworks is truly infectious and inspiring, and she's a joy to have on my screen, and I'm glad she chooses to share this part of herself with us in this way. That's truly what was in the background of my comment, I do not think there is anything wrong with that. I can't imagine feeling uncomfortable if another girl called me a cutie patootie. But, a gain, if she herself did express that a comment like mine makes her uncomfortable, then I fully respect whatever reasons she might have for this and do apologize.
@jmsl_910

@ what a thoughtful response. no, she didn't specifically say it makes her uncomfortable. have you been on this channel awhile? i think i feel protective of her... she's demure and so poised--and maybe a bit shy... maybe i am projecting. i'll delete my comment
