A. Hays Town | Louisiana Legends

This episode of the series “Louisiana Legends” from January 27, 1994, features an interview with A. Hays Town conducted by Gus Weill. Town, a native of Crowley, is an influential architect best known for his residential homes. He discusses: the plans he made at age fifteen for the redesign of his family house; his time at Tulane University; the influence of the French Quarter in his designs; his early career in Mississippi; his style of combining the past and present through the use of older building materials; and his art collection.

One with such success CAN be humble and Mr. Town is a fine exhibition of that near-paradoxical statement. I have several of Town’s books and so much admire his work. Though not an architect or designer myself, an elementary school teacher in fact, I still enjoy studying architecture and design in my spare time. A. Hays Town and his work are well worth the investing of my free time. He is truly a remarkable, Christian man that has moved on from this world. Thank you Mr. Town for the beautiful things you left behind for us to enjoy.
