What makes people think of this ending as one of the best of all time is the fact that it manages to end *all* of the storylines in a way that is so satisfying and doesn't forget about any of them. The fight with Father ended in the last episode and the finale focuses solely on the ending for the characters and sweet moments between them.
@CrowTRobot Жыл бұрын
Yup. It’s an ending that so good, it’s almost unfair to expect it from other anime. Every storyline is given a satisfying conclusion, none of the characters are ignored, it’s not perfect and rosy nor is it needlessly grim dark. It suits the story and makes you feel so happy that you took the journey.
@gerardlacroix6015 Жыл бұрын
This is something so many shows and anime should consider doing. An epilogue episode. It always adds SO MUCH MORE depth to a work. You get to let the ending breathe, not have it cramped in an already full of tension "final" episode.
@xyex Жыл бұрын
Yeah, ending it on an epilogue full of calm low moments instead of an intense high moment - like immediately after beating father - helps give so much closure to everyone and everything. It was a brilliant idea.
@pwnorbepwned Жыл бұрын
I also appreciate that it ended. There’s another timeline where the popularity of FMA would keep it going beyond its logical conclusion. Like, unearthing what Truth is, following Ed and Al on their adventures abroad, militant groups filling the power vacuum left by the deaths of the homunculi, Ed and Winry’s kids in a next generation story, etc. All totally unnecessary. Arakawa said nope, gonna write about farming! An excellent conclusion.

Fun fact, the only reason Ed and Winry didn't kiss at the end is because the author said that she didn't know how to draw two people kissing, so she opted for a hug instead. “There's no such thing as a painless lesson, they just don't exist. Sacrifices are necessary; you can't gain anything without losing something first. Although, if you can endure that pain and walk away from it, you'll find that you now have a heart strong enough to overcome any obstacle. Yeah... a heart made fullmetal.” -Edward Elric I love that quote. I didn’t realize I was smiling watching it till the credits ran. Yes it’s cliche to end a series with a motivational speech, but that’s what I love about Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. It doesn’t need that ultra uniqueness. It just needs to be good. Yes I am one to bully the ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’ idea, but there’s something about this. I can’t quite put my finger on it. I love this show. What a journey it has been.

“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” always sounded wrong to me cause it feels like it promotes suffering. Like, hey yeah you’re gonna suffer. Whatever. you’ll be strong. Personally I don't think it's cliche because of the simple fact that this manga is old af so they're allowed to be corny because it's kind of unique in that way. Also the fact that most shows now are usually dark and sad this one being happy actually makes it original and unique

And so we’ve reached the end. This has been such a fun journey. Feels like yesterday y’all watched the first episode! In reality it was over 5 months. I love this show so much, one of, if not my favorite anime. The storytelling is so genius. When you start it you think it’s gonna be a simple shounen, then everything just gets flipped up. With the Homunculi and Father stuff, the Hughes knowing it all, and the country transmutation circle twists, this show constantly surprises you. I absolutely adore it. Moments get you so hyped and jumping out of your seat. A genuine smile across my face watching this show, I just can’t not love it. It also has the sad moments that hit hard. I teared up a few times, which is unusual, especially for me. It knows how to deal with the mood and emotions of scenes. When the MC was mad, I was, when they were sad, I was, when they were happy and celebrating, I was. Best story known to man? No, but it’s great. It uses that great story base to make it amazing. A very straight forward animation style that can be used as a base for amazing scenes. A good story concept taken to the next level. It all comes together to be the best. Characters that are good in concept, and they managed to take them above and beyond. The way it treats all its characters with respect is something you don’t see well a lot. It has great morally grey characters. Also some of the best ‘I won’t kill any person’ characters. I normally don’t like those, but Ed and Al are amazing. The female characters are some of the best in anime, especially of its time (2000/2001 when the manga released). I mean, it was written by a certified badass woman, so to be expected. Also the writing of the male characters is great, they aren’t toxic and then romanticized. Stereotypes of all kinds are flipped. I also just loved all the Homunculus and their writing. The idea of Envy being envious of humans, Greed just wanting connection, Wrath’s calm, purified anger. I could go on and on about this show, but I won’t. I’ll end it on, I love this show, and loved y’all’s reaction. Can’t wait to go into 2023 with a bunch of new shows to enjoy. (Also bonus points for the show providing an amazing name for an amazing new pup! Winry! So glad the pup found you guys!) “Although, if you can endure that pain and walk away from it, you'll find that you now have a heart strong enough to overcome any obstacle. Yeah... a heart made fullmetal.”

I really like that moment with Ed and Al walking home, it makes you feel for al and think of things like "wow that first nap musta been awesome", it also shifts to ed's leg without over playing it but ed's limping cause his metal leg is now to short. 34:01 "Leave it better than you found it." You get it. That's exactly what Al & Ed are introducing to alchemy...and what we should introduce in our world. It's not enough to take. It's not enough to give. It's to leave the world a bit better than we found it. Love: Full Metal style.

This was a crazy good ride to watch together with you guys. Again, love the editing. Made it a lot more comfy to watch and get your input without interrupting the flow.

fullmetal alchemist was so heart-warming and sweet, but also sad, gut wrenching and can make you cry, all at the same time. all in 64 ep they make you feel sorry for people, for me, envy and greeds death made me sob, which i didnt exect to do, envy more so. it was so filling to see everyones story come to an end, Fathers, scars, roys team, elric brothers, and everyone elses all heart-warming endings that they all deserved. (not heart-warming for father tho😒 but def deserved) i dont know how to expain it in words but this was so amazing and it makes me feel as though my heart is full after seeing the end, but cant help wanting more of it

An incredible ending to an incredible anime. Aye Kenny, you and Montana are going to have one hell of a good laugh when you guys react to the bloopers this Saturday! I cannot wait to see it. Also I know I sound like a broken record, but I do highly recommend that you guys watch the sacred star of Milos which is the Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood movie. And I also highly recommend watching the original Fullmetal Alchemist from 2003 and 2004. Along with its movie conqueror of Shamballa. Thank you guys again for the great reactions and content. You two are some of the coolest human beings, thanks for bringing great entertainment 🙌🙏

The way you discussed and enjoyed the thematic payoffs of this series made it a really great watch! 🧡

It has been a fantastic journey with you both! If you'd like more Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood content there are a few OVA's and the Fullmetal Alchemist brotherhood Koma theater shorts which are HILARIOUS.

just come across your guy's channel and saw all the eps of your guy's reaction to FMA Brotherhood. loving it! honestly would also love to see you guys reacting to the 2003 series of FMA [if you guys ever planned to. since the 2003 series while the plot of it goes differently from FMA brotherhood since it came out when the manga wasnt finished, it still is really really good in its own way.] Keep up with the awesome reactions!

What makes this anime one of the greats in my humble opinion is that it makes you not only cry tears of sadness, a lot of shows can do that, but it also makes you shed tears of joy in the end. It's a thought-through show from beginning to end and manages to conclude all storylines in a satisfying and logical manner. Truly one that sticks with you.

"A heart made Fullmetal." Precious few come like this show. But even the best come to an end. And what an end it was. Can't wait for the bloopers this Saturday, and then onwards to Death Note.

Yay! I loved watching your reactions and hearing your thoughts on this series every time you guys post the episodes. I'm happy you guys got to watch and finish the series. One of the things I like about this ending is how Havoc gets healed by the stone - I think I remember Ed suggesting to them to heal Havoc by asking Dr. Marcoh use his philosopher stone back then but it didn't happen cause the Homonculus took the doctor. Now in the ending he gets healed exactly that way and I think that's cool story-wise. Another series to watch? You guys watch cartoons, maybe "Over the Garden Wall"? It's pretty good, is fun, but only has 10 episodes. It's kind of dark too, I guess.

Mustang and Hawkeye are indeed a couple according to the author. Military Regulations are the only reason they haven’t gotten married as neither could stay a superior or subordinate.

Loved the happy endings for all the characters. Scar's redemption arc is probably my favorite other than that last photo of Ed and Winry with their kids.

It just makes me so damn happy to see people understand how beautiful this anime is. It's not even about being the top anime for so many years, it's about the impact it had on all of us. I can't believe how attached I am to all these amazing characters that no matter how many times I rewatch, it always makes me bawl my eyes out all while noticing something new every time. Feel like there are so many hidden messages and such great concepts covered in just 64 eps in such a satisfying and justified manner. There will truly never be another masterpiece like FMAB again.

I love watching people watch this series. Especially the reveal of Pride and a lot of other "wow" moments in the series. Thank you Now, I wanted to point out something interesting in the series. After Hughes died, it planted a seed that continued to grow with the viewer throughout the entire series. That is...they can kill anyone. Think about it. At first, you didn't think that the main characters were gonna be hurt in any way, but after Hughes died, every episode keeps you guessing and a bit worried that they might just kill off someone else. Roy, Hawkeye, Ed, Al... it is possible that no one is safe in the show. I always felt that it was a great way to put extra tension in the series as it went...with a wonderful ending that felt like...a proper ending. Anyway, thank you. I enjoyed your reactions...especially the WOWS and the Olivia Simps.

this series has a special place in my heart, it doesn't matter if I find another good series or not, but for some reason I always come back to watch this

It took me a few watches to really understand, but the reason Ed doesn't kill pride is because he gains an understanding of him like he did with most of the other homonculi. Pride's true desire wasn't to be prideful in himself, it was to be someone else's pride, which is why he stretched himself so thin for father towards the end of the show, and why his true form isn't inherently evil, which I'm sure was true for every homunculus. Truly masterful storytelling

I eventually get all my friends to watch FMA and 90% of them are like 'Awww Ling is treating Mei like a little sister' Well she is his half-sister. They are two of 41 half-siblings.

You know what would be a good show to do? The 2003 FMA series. Pretty much everyone who has seen both watched FMA before FMAB. It would be really interesting to see the perspective of someone who saw FMAB first.

I do like how Pride in his final moments decided to hold on to his memories of Mrs. Bradley instead of his personality, similar to how greed held on to his crew

A nice bit of directing with the final scene; when you look at it again, they did everything possible to conceal Ed's new height until the last moment, when he embraced Winry. We finally get to see that he's no longer a pipsqueak.

With all your high praise of this series, I would love to see a discussion on comparisons of it and the original version of the anime, "Full Metal Alchemist" (non brotherhood). It outpaced the original manga and went a very different direction, but it's still a perfectly good anime in and of itself. Maybe watch it off camera and do a livestream/podcast/discussion video about it? The original series spends more time with Hughes, so that probably also explains the impact he has on fans even in Brotherhood's version.

your points about hughes are so spot on. (2003 aside) in fmab and fma manga we dont spend a lot of time with hughes or nina. their deaths are sad on their own, but they leave such a lasting impact on the audience because of how much they affect ed, al, and mustang. if ed and al werent constantly reminded of her in hopelessness, or if mustang wasnt constantly trying to find his killer, we wouldnt care about them the way we do. while the audience may not spend much time with them, their absence leaves a mark on the story that cant be erased
