I used to live in Darrington if you go back toward Arlington to the White Horse Merchantile that road behind it leads to a trail up Whitehorse Mountain. Also out of Darrington to the south is the mountain loop highway which is about 40 mile dirt road that connects over to Granite Falls and there is camping along there and you can get to the monti cristo ghost town along there it follows the sauk river I think. Gorgeous. Darrington is one of the few towns in western WA that has not really changed much since the 90s, Arlington has grown so much it blows my mind!

I put a calendar alert every month. I run the generator. I switch all electrical devices to propane when applicable. Remember when you run the generator to put a load on the generator. Simply run the air conditioner for about 10 minutes even in the winter time. I run the propane heater the water heater and the air conditioner for 10 minutes every month regardless of winter or summer. Of course in the summer the air condition is running most of the time anyway, but remember to run that furnace if only for 10 minutes also switch yourwater system to tank to pump If you don’t use your own, make sure to put that out once a month and leave it out for an hour or so. You should also get in the habit of putting in your own it out after it rains we use our own every day so plenty of work , if you have automatic steps, make sure you retract them a couple of times and lubricate with WD-40 or something similar

That weekend spot with water and sewer would be the perfect spot to sanitize the water tank and deep clean the black tank. About every third use on our Travato, I fill the black by using a hose into the toilet to completely fill and then drain 2 or 3 times. If you have not already added a clear extension for the dump pipe, you need that. It adds 5 inches and allows you to monitor your dumping. That way you will know when it's clean. After dumping, always add water and whatever tank cleaner you use. Some people recommend dawn detergent and boraxo. Will you do meet-ups in the future?
@RVJedeye
@RVJedeye Ай бұрын
Yep it is a good spot, in fact I did my black tank while I was there. The Travato has a black tank clearout connection on the opposite side of the rig. I have a hose specifically for that and used it this time out. nice to be able to do it.🙂

I recommend “Day Hiking the North Cascades” for a lot of hikes in the area. Further up the road there is a mountain bike area. There is a 30 mile multi use trail that starts near the IGA, although there are landslides near the ends, so it might be better to use other trailheads than the grocery store. Further up the Mountain Loop Highway are a lot of hiking spots and it’s recently been graded to get rid of potholes

Here's a tip for Glampers, especially new ones,to RVs. Even in winter,run your rooftop AC units once a month,on cold, not just fan. Reason is, you need to keep the seals lubricated,so they don't dry out+ leak ( always when most needed, every mechanic knows how Murphys Law works). Do the same with your car/ tow vehicle AC.

The Darrington area has some great hikes near it. Mount Pugh is just a few miles south on the mountain loop highway. That trail has a fair bit of elevation gain, but it is really pretty. A bit farther south is the trail to Monte Cristo, which is a mining area from the late 1890s. There is no mining there now, but the area is spectacularly beautiful. If you continue around the Mountain Loop Highway there is a nice trail at the Big Four ice caves. I rather doubt the ice caves still exist but the walk was nice. The caves were pretty cool when I last visited about 47 years ago.
