Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on KZbin!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...
WARNING
Abandoned mines and ruined structures have many hazards and can severely injure or even kill you. Do not attempt to copy or re-enact situations or scenarios seen in this video. Stay Out and Stay Alive: • Gly Says... STAY OUT S...
NOTICE This video and all commentary therein including comments by the viewer is for entertainment purposes only and not intended to be instructional.

I'm a disabled vet on fixed income but would be happy to donate what I can, I really enjoy your vids Gly & Laura. You have come a long way with polishing your videos for our ultimate enjoyment (music + the drone shots being my favorite to set the mood) I miss being a Mohave desert rat and exploring Nature with my dog (RIP) I can enjoy those times again with YOU. Awsome…2 seperate video creators on the same channel. Laura is doing an amazing job and you make a great team. We look forward to every new video even more now. That mine must have gone a lot deeper to at one time. If you look carefully when Laura videoed the back of the pump there is a pipe disappearing into the rock waste below. It would have been interesting to see where they had the engine mounted in the day and the belt runs they used to get to the pump.

Yes, we figured the pump (we thought it was a winch) may have drained the winze or went all the way down to the lower drift which we could not access because it was flooded.

Those miners must have been out there for years. Just getting there and walking around is difficult. Could you imagine moving a bucket full of rocks, just for 20 cents. Today people couldn't put their phone down long enough to do all this work.

Before you had concluded your pitch, I hit the join button. Been watching this channel for a very long time. Had tossed some money at Old Bob when he needed some love. Now a few words on some things I'd like to see. I'm heavy into the mechanics of the mines. Of course, any markings on that pump to identify it would be nice. I love machinery. That was some heavy rail to be carted all the way up there. If you could measure the height of the rail, it would help identify it. Rail is most often sized as its weight per yard. The height of the rail or the width across the bottom allows one to refer to tables to get the weight. Also, rolling marks on the web can identify mill and year. As I commented a few episodes ago, saw marks on the lumber/timbers can help identify its origin. Circle saw cut lumber, of course, has circular saw marks on it. Vertical lines indicate a bandmill or sashgang saw. Casting marks on malleable iron washers used to hold it all together are great info also. You do a great job with newspapers and Prince Albert cans. Wood and iron tell me a lot and any attention to these things are vastly appreciated. Thanks, dave

I've watched 👀 this episode twice already. Once in natural TV image mode and once in dynamic image mode. It appears totally different in those different image versions. In natural mode, it looks great and I was able to fine tune that version slightly to seem colourful and with great natural light falling onto the scenes. In dynamic mode, I had to do a big change to that image cause it was set too dark and too intense. After 20 minutes of fine tuning your images, the colours really became rich and vibrant. The natural light seemed as if I was actually there. It was so real, I've gone silent. So it was 2 great viewing experiences for me. Thanks you 2!! The 4K really helped in making it seems like I was really there. Your new show is going great and my TV adjusting skills have reached a skill level where I can get the most out of watching your show. It's well worth paying for these days! My Panasonic TV 📺 is capable of reproducing your show very accurately. If people don't see why they should pay something towards the show it's probably because they don't have a great TV or they've never thought to adjust it or try out all its features. Great Job!!

32:55 ?A 3 cylinder water pump? Note outlet pipe, drum for a flat belt drive. Gearing is a step-down type (trades belt speed for power). They would not put an air compressor down a hole, but they would put a water pump as they don't lift very well, but they push stronger. They had water problems back then also.

From the Miller website: 1890 In 1890, C.L. Coffin of Detroit received the first U.S. patent for an arc welding process using a metal electrode. This was the first record of the metal melted from the electrode carried across the arc to deposit filler metal in the joint to make a weld. About the same time, N.G. Slavianoff, a Russian, presented the same idea of transferring metal across an arc, but to cast metal in a mold.

Good luck with your fundraising . I would give anything to support you, being a pensioner it would be difficult for me 😢😢😢

I dont think memberships are fair as i have supported your channel right from the start . If i paid a membership to everyone i watched i would be paying up to 500 dollars per month. We already pay You tube premium to stop having to see adds . Daryle from Australia

hmmm, KZbin starts to limit viewership to creators videos to convince them to offer memberships to their audience, and then KZbin takes 30% of that revenue. I know Patreon is a bit more complicated, but you keep significantly more of your money. I hope the memberships work out for you, I'm happy to support y'all. I know these long format videos take a lot of work to edit. Thanks for the entertainment!

You-Tube is working on slipping ads into the video stream, to work around the ad blockers when they start that I don't plan on watching anything on u-tube, there are already too many ads and most of them are an insult to a persons intellegence, will miss you guys alot if that occurs, i imagine alot of other folks will follow suit.
