It is sometimes said that people are the product of where they were born. The life of Rahil Patel would suggest otherwise. Raised in a devout Hindu home, ministering for 20-years as a Hindu priest, I first met Rahil when we were studying together at The OCCA, The Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics. Clearly something happened in Rahil's life to bring about a change from leaving the Hindu priesthood to studying Christian evangelism. What was it? Join us in this QC Conversation as we explore Rahil's life story, crossing geographical and spiritual frontiers in the pursuit of peace, a place to belong - a place to call home.

A very touching and thought provoking personal account. Thanks to Rahil for being so generous and vulnerable. May all who listen to his story respectfully and objectively consider the message.

I loved Rahil’s gentle admonishment to Christians about the modern Church’s departure from her contemplative and ‘mystic’ roots. For those who consider themselves practicing Christians and are sometimes confused or even concerned by the liberalisation of modern Christian practice and worship, I highly recommend AW Tozer as a source of clarity, in particular his books “The Pursuit of God” and “The Purpose of Man”.

A beautiful interview Dave. Rahil is truly able to speak from the eastern and western perspective through his faith journey.

I was a Sri Lankan Hindu, who studied in a Grammar School in Harrow, London in the 70's. Although it was a Catholic school, I had the opportunity to be really exposed to some Bible and even the chapel. I came from a nominal Hindu family and I truly felt at home praying in the chapel, for it was quiet and peaceful during lunch time. This was in stark contrast to the temple, where everything was chaotic and the priest muttering in 'tongues', where I never felt at home and never had any true connection with any one of the 300+ million gods. The seed was sown, but it took years (19 yrs) before it came to fruition. I went back to Sri Lanka, for my parents were not much enamoured of the rat-race. Nevertheless, the civil war back in Sri Lanka brought me to Australia in 1988. During the civil war, in SL, I determined to read the Bible from the very beginning- Genesis and by the time, I finished the 5 books, it struck me like a bolt of lightning that Hinduism has borrowed heavily from Judaism and the last thing I wanted to do was to follow a faith, that was bogus for a start, with idolatry, which I had understood brings cruses and damnation and which was not leading me to Heaven, but to the Lake of fire. I really wanted to turn my back on my heritage and embrace Christ then and there; It was easier said than done. when I was at my lowest point in my personal life, I had an encounter with the Lord and the next month I converted with my mum and son and the following month, we, three, got water baptized-that was June 1992. Since that time, I have never looked back. We became Born Again, Bible-believing Christian. As a Hindu, I had been seeking God, but never found Him among the cacophony of idols and occult traditions and bizarre mythologies. On the other hand, the Bible is the truth and I feel that I have been exposed to the Truth and thankful for that. I have peace in my heart and assurance that, if I were to die today, my sins are paid by Jesus and I would be in Heaven. I don't have to worry about being turned into a cockroach in my next incarnation or forced to worship gods, who are adulterous, cheats or blood lusting beings. These thing really put me off, that is because as the Bible states, "Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love," (Eph 4:1) and Jesus broke my chains and gave me that elusive peace, that always eluded me as a Hindu. Jesus is standing at the door and knocking at our hearts, if only we would take the step to open the door for Him and be saved for eternity.

All religion is pretty much the same but only one creation story can be true, and that's the Genesis creation account. God bless this man!

Mr. Patel, you said that "thankfuless isn't a concept in Hinduism". But then earlier you said you prayed with your Hindu family before dinner. What then did you pray for?

Praise the Lord in Christ Jesus🙏 Hinduism believed in karma, the Altimate portion of an individual. No human will is considered. You have to live your fate.

As a Hindu, I am glad that you have found your peace. But as a comparative religion researcher, I can't help feeling sadden with your lack of knowledge about Hinduism. It looks like you prefer a religion that keeps you subservient to a god and as a result stayed blinded to your righfull divinity. Bible is for those who wants a god to worship whereas Geetha is for those who wants to transcend and realize the devine within. Its ok brother. Maybe the next life time......

Hi @pankajpatel1109, thanks for your comment. To clarify: this isn't a video about the majority of Hindus living in England, it's Rahil's personal story.

The Bible says that "Many are called, but few are chosen" (Matthew 22:14). Unless you read the Bible and see the truth, sadly all this won't make sense to you.
