@@SchildwachePotsdam No, no, he's on point. I'm envious of your form as well. You manage to capture the grace that's expected from a Bolognese fencer. When you get the time, get simple period appropriate clothing that would look good in photographs, and redo all Bolognese illustrations, adding pics for the missing illustrations (cough, Manciolino). Naturally, get a friend that knows how to take good photos and a good camera. Then use these to illustrate your synthesis book on the Bolognese system (Manciolino, Marozzo, Viggiani, Dall'Agocchie, Anonimo). Also, write your synthesis book on the Bolognese system. 😇

I liked a lot that defense with the riverso Tondo XD Thanks Martin

My pleasure, it's currently one of my favorite actions as well :)

So, its essentially just a winding stab from a high guard? Gotta love fencing masters trying to reinvent the wheel lol. Kinda reminds me of a 'Meisterhau' in longsword fencing. It all breaks down to 'soft and hard, strong and weak'.

Hehe yeah, it boils down to parry and strike in the same tempo. :)

This is literally like the jab. When being taught, you are told to square up or whataver beginner guard you are shown and when doing a jab, you take a small step forward while engaging the shoulder and not over extend your arm when punching and more body mechanics. But thats just a drill. An actual fighter uses the jab in different ways which include side stepping, feinting, combo then retreat jabbing. Staying stationary works as the fighter slips away at the last second while using the jab to create pressure. Point is, this attack is very much like a drill. To get your frame and body mechanics in synch. Once you get it down, you can apply it and include sidestepping, feints, etc. But this is a very powerful attack, and I like it.

How does the riverso tondo parry work against horizontal cuts (or thrusts)?
@SchildwachePotsdam2 жыл бұрын
Badly^^ You cheat and throw the riverso at an angle yourself 😁

Have you ever considered getting a decent go pro camera? Like on a chest mount to get a better first person view of the way you twist the blade. A wonderful demonstration! Very informative

Thanks! Yeah, once the channel makes enough funds to get that. The first buy was a proper mic for recording outside^^

Martin: what sidesword are you using in these videos? Also, could you provide a link to it?
@SchildwachePotsdam7 ай бұрын
This is a Pike Armory Sidesword. You can only order directlyf from them via facebook. Since they are from Russia however, I would advise against getting one.

That's the officers jacket by SPES, you find them under histfenc.eu

As a Meyerite looking into Italian systems, this immediately reminded me of a dussack technique/drill, which is, in essence a cut-centric version of this.

I even think there is a similar play with a thrust in his rappier section as well. :)

This amazingly similar to a Chinese taichi sword technique.

That clear wouldn't appear to work by the very physics of the blade. Try against an opponent who is not letting you. You're pushing on the Forte of the opponents blade with the feeble of your own weapon.
@SchildwachePotsdam2 жыл бұрын
It might seem that way because I pause in a position like you describe to explain the drill, but at the moment of the strike the opponent presents you their debole (as this is the part of the blade that would hit you) and since you strike the riverso tondo close to you, you'll make contact close to your center of rotation. I can assure you that it works in sparring, but don't take my word for it - just look at one of the many sources that use that defense by riverso against almost all types of attacks. 😊
