Very interesting but seems considerably more dangerous than true-edge techniques.

This amazingly similar to a Chinese taichi sword technique.

Both have their purpose. Parry + Riposte is safer for both parties, as over-reliance on contratempo was what caused so many double-skewers in rapier fights. At the same time, against opponents close to you in skill, it is very difficult to even hit them without contratempo.

It's a shame this series didn't continue. It's like everyone stopped researching grappling in HEMA, or just stopped creating video content all together.

Found myself at Sanssouci and the surrounding gardens last weekend, and I was like... this place is famous, @SchildwachePotsdam films their videos around here. 😄 For good measure, I took a photo of the arches in front of which I learned the guards & positions for sidesword. 😉

I wish my university had this as an option (sure, I'm faculty now, but that shouldn't stop me from embarrassing myself in a "sword club" setting).

Just got my first sidesword. I didn’t realize it was just about the same length and blade type as my old rapier. Handles better, though.

SCH GOOD CONTROL! I love how all the attacks are made lightly but enough to register that it is a proper hit! i do that quite often and i though i was doing it wrong! great spar!
@SchildwachePotsdam2 ай бұрын
Thanks a lot! :D I think good sparring should always leave both fencers healthy and a bit richer in experience^^ and as long as the body & cutting mechanics are in place, there is no need to strike hard.
