It’s baffling… or would be if it wasn’t an obvious merging of ego and racism. Sometimes the simplest answer is the right one. I mean, did explorers go to China, look at Chinese art of Chinese people, and say, “Hey, what’s this? I thought we were the first white people to come here…” Imagine art of African people in Africa being made by… y’know… Africans? “Mental gymnastics” is a generous description.

It's shocking how 18th-20th Century European scholars absolutely refused to believe that Africans or indigenous Americans could accomplish anything. How do you look at the Yoruba heads and think "Yeah, the Greeks definitely did this."?

Its amazing how the European scholars quickly dismiss the Zimbabwe stone building having been built by the Shona people, although the Zimbabwe stone buildings is impressive and great in its own right, but the largest stone building in sub-Saharan Africa is the city of Erodo in Benin, west Africa, now covered in trees and shrubs, which spanned for roughly 400 square miles in diameter as well as the one in Burkina Faso, a stone building of a similar size as that of Erodo.

I hate Leo Frobinus, but what I hate more is that we in the diaspora do the same thing. When some of us look at the OUR Ancestors in West and Central Africa, we attribute their genius and ingenuity to Egyptians or some other North Africans or Gametic East African. Some of us try to not understand and learn that Our Ancestors came up with their civilizations INDEPENDENTLY from Egypt, Nubia, Kush, Moors, Berbers, "Hamites", etc. AFRICA IS A HUGE PLACE. WE ARE NOT ALL CONNECTED TO EGYPT.

You can hardly fault yourselves for thinking likewise, because you were programmed to think and act that way. This is also part of the reason, some west Africans and Black Americans do not get along, because the body languages creates conflicts of unparalleled dimensions. Until you unlearn and relearn about your race, in it's good, bad and ugly, you wont understand why you react the way you do...the white man planned our division, deep and wide. It would take the grace of God for us to bridge the gaps.

@@isaacmatos297 about the ancestors of the African Diaspora that was traded in the Transatlantic Slave trade, we would be Yoruba, Igbo, Mandes, Akans, Bakongo, Bakuba, Luba, Fulani, Wolof, Gbe Peoples, etc. Are you insisting that the Yoruba, Kuba and Luba are descendants of Egypt? And that by the time they arrived there that Egypt's culture was there in those places? And I'm aware that their are stories of people "coming from the east" particularly in Yoruba stories but those are RELATIVELY RECENT (Late 1800s). People who say this don't know the multitude of origin stories for the umbrella term "Yoruba" they all have different origins for their groups. But stories are stories, half truths in stories. But what does the archeology day? Because we have the archeology. We just like to follow the stories we want to hear.

Yes because the Egyptians themselves say they come from the south! Ancient Egypt and North Africa had its origins in mother Africa!many people don't;want tob realize that Africa had a name before the European conquest came in and relabeled it!Egypt was called the land of Kamet which means land of the blacks !not a reference to the rich Nile River but a reference to the beautiful people that lived in Egypt!this is why Greeks called Egypt Egypt it was a reference to the dark-skinned people that live there not to the river Nile! but Europeans will have you believe imthat the Greeks were only talking about the rich soil of the nile! These people have to attribute anything in history to black people when we are the beginning of history!thank God the younger generation is slowly but surely opening their eyes to the truth!

And to contributing anything black people did to White society !this even went on in the Indian subcontinent the claim of a Aryan invasion of India !it was all to claim it for white history!

As a Yoruba man, during my undergrad years in history class, I was absolutely aghast in disgust and indignation, at the unscholarly & unprofessional statement attributed to Leo Frobenus over the works of my ancestors. During one of our presentations & debates over the topic for & against the eurocentric views of Frobenus, one arguement that made my group won the debate, was why the so called ancient Greeks failed to sculpt themselves accurately in their own works, rather than making the casts look exactly like an African? Surely, an European, would have left telltale Mark's on their own works, to tell how and why they did the artwork...these culture vultures wouldn't seize to amaze themselves. Without us, they would be nowhere.

Agreed. Leo Frobenus Is prob the “nicest” European anthropologist in Africa. He was quite stupid, once even postulating of a “Africa. Atlantis.” And ppl wonder how intellectuals can promote conspiracy pseudoscience.and why is to that when ever something g extraordinary in the archeology reccord appears that someone must say: “long lost civilization!” And as you said, he often either got facts wrong, simplified culture, or attributed works to some Eurocentric influence. However, he is positive in some sense. He was not as racist as most of his peers ere, he was correct at times in his works, and he was a major influence on future leadership of free countries (although that does depend a who they are).

One archeologist teacher I had one said something along the lines that the simplest explanation is typically the real one. The idea that those people imagined all those non native people doing all that crazy stuff just to make all the heads that are only there as their first opinion is just wild to me. Like the most ridiculous gymnastics one can pull out of their ass. If anything like that had happened than the art would have been more spread out- but it doesn't sound like it was. Their explanation sounded like it was fighting against the physical evidence instead of aligning with it. If its only found there- it was made there and not sold or traded off to other places. If it was made in other places, the art would be found in other places. If it was made by a non native, the art would be found in the non natives home country as well. They had to have not thought about these simple details on purpose. I can't imagine missing those big issues with their 'it can't be black' ideas otherwise.

Its even worse when in the extreme cases some want to say aliens are responsible. Thomas Edison only built the glass bulb while it was a black man who built the part that powers it. That's why if u remove the glass bulb u can still have light if u put in a light bulb. He took the credit because that's what white people do, they take the achievements of others, especially us and our people and act like they did it when most of the time they either had very little part in its creation or none at all

Those who lived in low and subsaharan Africa were never part of any classical civilizations that existed in Mediterranean world. Many black people refer to Ethiopia as a “ African “ civilization but in fact, it was an establishment by semitic colony by people who related with those who lived in what is today Yemen. Civilizations are NOT classified by continents. Ancient Persians and ancient Chinese were both in what is today Asia but they never in anyway an “ asiatic civilization “ . It’s absurd to say that . His people were pushed off their land and as far as I understand, when they resisted, they died. I’m going to do some research tomorrow to at least get the name of the tribe and this man. I would like to get the names of the companies involved. He spent 10 years hiding in holes from loggers and ranchers. Brazil has tried to wipe them out since the building of the international highway in roughly the 60s. They resisted and died. I’ve seen photographic proof of torture and murder, as as females of different ages in pens, referred to by male in charge as a whore house. The indigenous Brazilians have been fighting for their land from the beginning, including guerrilla warfare.

So for the most part, everything you said was correct but according to Professor Ngwabi Bhebe it wasn't just the Shona who built Great Zimbabwe, it was multiple South African ethnic groups. If you'd like to hear him in his own words, check out the BBC's KZbin video "Southern Kingdoms - History Of Africa with Zeinab Badawi [Episode 13]" At around the time stamp of 13:45 is when he explains it. I don't think it's a big mistake really since even my old college book attributes Great Zimbabwe to the Shona but as far as I'm aware the most up to date idea is what Zimbabwean historian Ngwabi Bhebe has stated.

Look around you today nothing has changed, everyone loves African/black culture , but now I’m starting to realize it’s not a love agape Type of love, it’s out of jealousy, they wish they were you, they fetishize our body parts and see us as tools to satisfy their fantasies and lusts, but deep down they hate how much they love us. They don’t have an issue with black misery that makes them comfortable and strokes their ego, but black excellence that’s where the problem starts, we as black people have been around to comfort and even aid every other race in reaching their excellence or striving towards said goal. In return we have been picked apart and dehumanized, to the point where entire “PHD” holders claim some of our civilizations were built by Aliens, just like the circle of life, what’s comes around goes around. The likes of religious leaders baffle me, the same bible they enforced on us teaches that the children will pay for the sins of their forefathers ironic isn’t it? Fortunately for us , 2020 was actually a portal, a consciousness shift, those who have oppressed will now become oppressed

Don’t get me started on all the great “white” buildings designed or built by African slaves or the extraordinary knowledge of astronomy in Australian Aboriginal and N and S American natives peoples. When I was a kid I remember looking at a book in ancient Egypt in which the author attempted to argue the people with clearly African features were European. The French started that one. I was very lucky my father was an artist/scientist and my mother loved art. I grew up surrounded by books of art from all over the world. It was obvious to me that all humans are capable creating of extraordinary objects of great beauty.

Isn't it, in the middle African area of the continent, that the simple fact it's jungle( at least along the Congo.). That, as with S. America, so much history is lost due of, lost civilizations to the jungle. I mean Egypt and the Mediterranean coast countries are African. But so much of the middles history, is unknown ( middle African languages, are known to go back thousands of years):not to knock Arabic) But fact is, only due of the Egyptian -near East being less growth( jungle) ruined( like South India ( in early times), is it, east Mediterranean area looked as a cradle of civilization. What was lost and gobbled by the jungle we'll just really find it all. Or, understand it's languages.

Well, if you'd like to know more about the Yoruba I'd suggest: A History of the Yoruba People by S. Adebanji Akintoye - this book gives a very detailed overview of Yoruba history and culture. The Yoruba: A New History by Akinwumi Ogundiran - this book takes an interdisciplinary look a Yoruba history and uses archaeology to nail down specific dates to specific events. Both are phenomenal and you won't be disappointed with either. I know there's a KZbinr that did a reading of the first chapter of Akintoye's A History of the Yoruba People if you wanted to get a feel for the book. If you'd like to know more about the Igbo I'd suggest: Political Organization in Nigeria Since the Late Stone Age by John N. Oriji- this is a more introductory college level text. I would love to add some more texts about the Igbo but unfortunately many of the books available suffer from colonial missionary influences that sought to connect the Igbo and many other African polities to the Bible or Koran. For general history: Any College level text about African Archaeology will help ground and frame the movements of African people in time and space. When The World Was Black Part 1 and 2 by Supreme Understanding aka Dr. Sujan Dass . This book uses archaeology, anthropology and genetics to explore the history of black people around the world. For thought provoking books I'd suggest anything by : Gert Muller, Anu M'Bantu, Hermel Hermstein. Hope this helps you get started.

Marking achievements and writing them down is not an African tradition. Our tradition is ORAL. There’s a good reason for that. Books can be and have been edited by adding to and deleting from them for ages. Currently there’s a phenomenon called “The Mandela Effect” which might be nothing more editing media such as commercials and movies to appear differently than we remembered them, since most Mandela Effects take place in media which can be alter by the copyright owners.
