Man...I remember me and my buddy running a scam on Habbo. One of us would go in to a room invisible (there were ways to do it) and annoy everyone in a room. Then the other would go in pretending to be an admin and offer to kick them. The "admin" would need room rights though, and when they handed over the room rights, we kicked the owner, stole all their furniture and made out like bandits. Ahhh good times.

I think habbo teaches an important lesson that there will always be bad people in the world, doesn't mean you shouldn't explore it, but you shouldn't expect people to be nice either. The best way to keep people safe is to teach them how to avoid the danger, not close their ears and allow other bad people to take advantage of their continued naivety

Hi! I’m one of the panelists from the Channel 4 debate, loved seeing this video pop up on my homepage! There was definitely a lot of degenerate behavior on Habbo but most of what I experienced I put down to other teens - in saying that though it went largely unregulated for years and Sulake should have known something was going to have to change. It was a wild time, don’t agree with all of my immature takes now from the debate but it’s great to see people still talking about what happened on Habbo. Looking at where we’re at with the internet and social media now, it’s a huge precursor for where we’re at today with the internet - it’s unmanageable! Worth noting though, Bobba predated the great mute 🤫 😉
@waggsbannin99
@waggsbannin99 Ай бұрын
LoL! awesome! I loved this game. I was only 9-10 (2004-2005) while i played. It honestly wasn't that bad! There weren't perverts creeping around every corner of the hotel. I did dip my toes in the dark side of habbo, but i never roleplayed. I had a terrible experience on Newgrounds and my roleplays for leaked when I was 7. Long story, I'll write about it soon. I got banned from habbo by my parents after we got scammed for like, over $1000 in phone bills. Worst part, we never got the coins, they were sent to a middle man! 😪Me and my brother managed to get him banned, but we defied our parents to get him back. I think i'm younger than you, but I think you did fine in the interview. I think it was a bit silly for them to set up a debate with young people against adults IMO. A video describing your experiences getting onto the news would be cool! This was before youtube too! We had to tell people about cool websites by word of mouth, like cavemen haha. I used to get my entertainment from knoxskorner(.)com, addictinggames, rubberfaces, confound, xgenstudios, i think everyone knows about miniclip, oh my god there are so many memories we all haven't shared.
@Slippin
@Slippin Ай бұрын
Damn that’s so cool, thank you so much for commenting and shedding some more light on things! I wouldn’t call them immature takes at all. I feel the fault was all on Sulake. They should’ve had sufficient moderation. I feel as though most kids and teens knew what dangers the game held and knew how to avoid said dangers. It’s just that small percentage of very vulnerable kids that Sulake should’ve preemptively set out to protect. (Also damn it I knew I’d get at least some info wrong ahha)

@@Slippin you did great! It’s lovely to see a balanced take on it. That’s exactly it IMO - it sucks that kids get overexposed to some things but kids will *always* push boundaries to do and learn things that adults wish they wouldn’t. I’m actually a tech journalist now - my whole career basically started from this Channel 4 debate, so I guess I owe Sulake a lot 😂

@@waggsbannin99 I was on from 2007-2010 I think, so my early teens - we’re similar ages but different Habbo eras I guess! God, those coins scams were the WORST. I had a friend who used to buy me them (took a 10% cut 😂) because my parents didn’t want me spending online. And my parents were very chill and pretty internet savvy - just goes to show how easy it is for kids to be kids!

I remember my parents being in the room a couple minutes before being sent that message. Later I went downstairs and cried as I explained what had happened. My baby boy made a vid! Yay! And you’re up to 60K subs?? Let’s go!! Can’t wait for 100K, I was in before 10K and will always hold that moral superiority over those that take longer to recognize greatness 😤 This has been a Glaze, brought to you by.. me 😩

We actually have a habbo crime story here in the Netherlands, about Anja van der Zwan, she met somebody on habbo in 2018, she went missing in 2020, ultimately passing away in 2022. 3 weeks before she passed away, the 'friend' was assigned as executor. The family also wasn't even told about Anja's passing (I am unsure how they ultimately found out).

Nice video!! 😊 There were some missing perhaps less important pieces though. From my experience in the ES Habbo, on which I played A LOT, there also were these factors: - Focusing on a shitty Android version which was a disaster - Updating the UI to be mobile (very yikes) - Introducing multiple currencies, most importantly diamonds, which meant users were not able to exchange coins freely as a measure to evade black markets, but really just as a method to make sure people put real money on Habbo to get stuff - Decadence of the Habbo rares - Spiral loop of people leaving, thus making the market collapse and less people to interact with, thus less interest - Staff being banned for good and dumb reasons, some for gambling others for their own financial reasons, which were people that resembled the old good days of Habbo - Ban waves of myths which had legendary items like the Infobus, now no longer exist AFAIK, since they removed the rooms after banning them

Funny bread man doing long form content is actually pretty good. Looking forward to seeing more. Never got into Habbo hotel where I'm from (or maybe because I spent too many hours on runescape during my early years) but still a pretty interesting look into other online multiplayer games.

Yknow that grandma was right pool's closed was the most pathetic thing 4chan has done. Like not the worst, but definitely the most, let's say, sad? What a weird time

Yeah, like... it's 4chan. You _know_ they didn't actually give a shit about stopping racism or encouraging development of a cure for AIDS, they just wanted to be a problem for somebody. Honestly disappointing to see Sulake "honor" it with references and Easter eggs, but given that the whole point of the site was to get kids hooked on buying things they didn't need out of fear of missing out, not surprising.

I wish I would have been a bit older when Habbo was a thing in my childhood. I would have scammed the hell out of those kids. Instead I ran around doing work and got in troble with my mom for using the phone to buy coins for like 80 euros or so.

I remember making long distance friends on habbo hotel when i was a young teen. My mom got the phone bill and was mad to see I'd been making calls to a boy in New York and one in Idaho. Idaho boy sent me my first mixed cd and a cute card with some photos of him on vacation. Sometimes you found perverts there and sometimes you found fun people your age to talk to.

I was pretty bummed to find one of my OG accounts completely deleted. It wasn't from trouble-making, scamming, etc. It had laid dormant for many years, but I wanted to see it again. It just didn't work, account recovery didn't work, and when I emailed support, they confirmed it had been nuked. Strangely, secondary accounts which I hardly ever used still existed. It was a bit of a gut punch to find that out, as I've made some life-long friends from Habbo. Not to mention the money I had spent on Coins and Furni. I had multiple rooms, and even a pet dog named Pablo. It was wild to see how old he got, as it logged how many days you kept the pet. It was fun to see his duration really high. My favorite things were room designing and stacking objects in each other. So many cool concepts came from glitching things with the rollers. Or, using Cheat Engine to get posters and sticky notes onto the black void instead of the intended walls. Good times. Sad to see my account is nonexistent and that there's no longer anything to go back and enjoy again. Hopefully others still have their accounts and can go back and enjoy a good hit of Nostalgia. Catch you in Promenade, friendos.

Did you try recovering account? There is a chance your old account still exists if someone else didnt take the name. I managed to recover my former main account after it was nuked.
