On October 7th, the organization Hamas, which is also the ruling government of Gaza, perpetrated an attack just across the border in Israel. The Israeli government says that the attack killed around 1200 people, most of them civilians. And Hamas also kidnapped hundreds more, including women and children, and took them back to Gaza as hostages. In response, Israel has bombarded and invaded Gaza. More than 11,000 people have been killed, and many more displaced. Since that day we've heard from many of you, our listeners, with questions about Hamas. So we took a few weeks to talk to experts on all sides to answer those questions - people who know the history deeply, and have even participated in it. Today on the show: the origins of Hamas, the context in which it developed, and what it represents to Palestinians, Israelis, and the rest of the world.

A lot of ignorance in this comment section. I’m sure they were ignorant when kids were waving Palestinian flags when the WTC collapsed, as they’re ignorant now.

You very proudly say Israel won all those wars. Israel was new there and who was supplying weapons to Israel. That is why Israel won, the weapons, not because they were so clever.

You have to be clever and cooperative to build alliances with the global powers in order to get those weapons. Clearly the brainlets running Gaza failed at this as the best they could do was Iran, the grand daddy of failed nations.

False of course israel knew about hamas and it's development since Fatah and PLO are secular and hamas can be used as an excuse for the continuity of the occupation

Can not both countries be free? They could have split it with a horizontal line , 50-50, seperate Jerusalem in half.meven a few would have rebelled, it would have been easily managed and possibly finished by now. But Israel, as they took land off people (even if they left by themselves because they were scared), they could have hundreds a house for EVERY family they evicted in the remaining Palestine. This would have calmed a lot of anger. Also they shouldn't have slaughtered villages, as it is known fir a few Israelis to want (the ethnic cleansing of P). Yes Israelis want the same thing too, all the land to themselves. And you are both wrong. I suggest you watch "Breaking the Silence", to see what IDF is capable of. So extreme IDF, are as bad as Hamas.

The Middle East is divided into its current state as a result of Britain's role as the mastermind behind World War I. Previously known as the Ottoman Empire, this region was targeted by the British, French, and Russians for their own strategic interests. Forming an alliance with the Ottoman Empire, the Germans were drawn into the conflict. As the British faced challenges in the war, they turned to American Jewish elites for assistance. These elites, referred to as Zionists, offered aid on the condition that Britain would allow them to acquire land in Palestine after the war. This arrangement has been cited as evidence of land acquisition through manipulation. The Rothschilds, Zionist Jewish bankers, provided financial backing for these endeavors. The German Jews residing in Germany, who had previously been supportive of their country, were influenced by the Zionists to turn against Germany during World War I. This betrayal may have contributed to the Holocaust during World War II, as the unfair Treaty of Versailles following World War I placed significant strain on Germany. Additionally, Britain's unjust aggression towards the Ottoman Empire, resulting in the allocation of Palestinian land to the Rothschilds who are the Zionist Jewish bankers, is a crucial aspect often intentionally overlooked in discussions surrounding Israel. Understanding these historical events is essential in determining accountability.
