This is how British double-dealing during WW1 ignited the conflict between Arabs and Jews in the Middle East. This is a story of intrigue among rival empires; of misguided strategies; and of how conflicting promises to Palestine and Israel created a legacy of bloodshed which determined the fate of the Middle East. Avi Shlaim, Professor of International Relations at Oxford University, calls it 'one of the best historical documentaries on the Middle East I have ever seen'.

This. However, no amount of oppression justifies the killing and murdering of innocent civillians, including children - and even infants, in the way in which these acts were accomplished by the terrorists who are largely supported by the oppressed people in a certain region.

I don't at all condone what Hamas is doing but I completely understand that Isreal has been sticking its d!ck in the proverbial palestinian hornets nest with illegal settlements, slowly encroaching into the west bank. Their far right govt currently in power pretty much wants a Palestinian genocide and have been looking for an excuse. This is it. I feel for all the Palestinian and Israeli citizens getting caught up in this mess. Its funny how you will eventually turn into your worst enemy.

@@paulwally9007 Too be fair to the British Foreign Office in WW1 they honoured the promise to defend Belgium at terrible cost. The Italians got the lands they were promised, The French got the lands they were promised, Rumania got the lands they were promised, the Jews got support for a homeland and the Sherrif of Mecca and his sons got freedom from the Ottoman Empire and a couple of Kingdoms in Transjordan and Iraq. British never said to the Sherrif of Mecca that they would back all of his claims. The only actual promise broken was Constantinople to the Czar and he was dead and replaced by the Communists by 1919 and perhaps it could be said that the Sherrif in that he lost out in Saudi to his local rivals. So I do not think the British were any more perfidious than anyone else 1914-1919 during which period Italy declared war on its former allies, Germany promised Mexico most of south west USA, the Arabs betrayed the Ottoman Empire and the Ottomans attacked the Russians without warning or declaration of war. In fact if you want a root cause for a lot of the problems in Palastine you probably need to start not with the promises of the British to various allies but the decision of the Young Turk Government in Constantinople to join a European War. Which even with promises of German support has always struck me as a really stupid option to take.....by 1917 the Russians had basically defeated the Turks and won control of the Black Sea, if not for the revolution in Russia the British and French would have had to honour the promise of Constantinople to the Czar as well. No wonder Putin and modern Russian Nationalists think the revolution in 1917 was a bad move.

Great verbal conveyance of history. HOWEVER, NOTE TO KZbin: The images were filmed and photographed to ACCURATELY DOCUMENT THE REALITIES OF GIVEN EVENTS. Digitizing out death & destruction that actually occurred, denies the depth and complete truth of a story and history, itself. It may also support the efforts of those who would wish those realities softened and dismissed as never having had happened.

Training is simply focused on the role that soldiers will actually perform. It's not a liberal arts education. And, honestly, you wouldn't want the kind of historical education a boot camp might struggle to put together. Better to take a college course. This video is at the level of detail which would show up in college study of the topic.

The conflict definitely was kickstarted by the british with the lovely Balfur declaration, allowing people to occupy a land without the permission of the people actually living there and having lived there for generations. Any terrorist attack should be condemned yet one can see where those are coming from. Take away the land, the future of a group of people and you'll see despair pushing humans to do the most horrendous of things. I'm a firm believer of self-determination, something the Arabs in Palestine had not even a taste of. Do you imagine the goverment were to bring a random stranger and force you to share your home with them? And then the stranger pushes you to live in nothing but a corner of your home as he brings the rest of their family, claiming now the place as theirs?

What? Goodness me, following the defeat of the Ottoman Empire, in 1919 following the First World War, Great Britain was awarded the Mandate for Palestine. When the British controlled Palestine, the Jews there referred to themselves as “Palestinian”. The Arabs did not recognize a separate national identity for those Arabs living in Palestine, and they referred to themselves simply as Arabs, as did the Arabs of much of the Middle East. What permission did the UK need? LOL. That is not how things work, the British had agreed in the League of Nations for the creation of Israel.

@@immkk1125 The Palestinians didn't OWN land in the first place (okay, some did!). The area of Palestine had been ruled by the Imperial govt of Ottoman Turks for 402 years. Before that? Other Islamic empires aka caliphates. Wkipd has a long list. Sharif Hussain's son, Abdullah, all family of Mohammed (their enemy was Saud & Wahhab), got 77% of Palestine land given to them, as Trans-Jordan aka Kingdom of Jordan. Basic math says the sliver of Palestine west of the Jordan, the part that is shown on maps as all Israel or all Palestine, that's 23%. How much of that 23% is owned fully or partly Israel? More than half but less than all. Then there's ancient Gaza City and the West Bank area where Israel won't let them have their own full military, make their own missiles and Air Force jets, build or buy their own nukes, and have an open border to Israel territory. Non-Jewish Syrian & Egyptian people of Palestine were OFFERED a sovereign nation-state of Palestine with FIXED BORDERS next to Israel. They we're given three or four or five successive options. Did they negotiate? No. They refused. They TOTALLY REJECTED all options to get a portion and live in peace. Hamas expressed the Islamic viewpoint in their Charter: Zero Compromise. War for Eternity, until victory and Judgment Day. That's where it stands, and terrorists will kill any Muslim leader who goes against that.

Umm its still going on, keeping 2 million Palestinans occupied in a strip of Gaza and Israelis dictating when they have electricity, water, humanitarian aid, travel access not to mention the continued expanse of settlers still stealing Palestinian lands and homes (remember "jacob, you're stealing my house" video last year? that's not the way a human is treated but a prisoner you can't do all these then not expect a reteliation. Also not to mention the constant shooting on peaceful protesters, arrests of children, killing of press like sherine Akleh, Ibrahim Lafi and much more, nightly raids, no right to vote. List goes on of the injustices by Israelis you can't ignore all this.

Agreed. But we never get all the information that we would need to understand a topic from one source. These provide vision, but vision without focus is the reason there are so many political headaches in today's world. No matter how much a global capitalism agenda is forced on us as the best path forward, the underpinnings of society, religion, finance and greed will always corrupt what could be into what it is. And again the common man will be the one to suffer the most, to fight, to die and rest far less than the fewest furthest from any conflict.

it was incredibly naive of the west to imagine they could run an empire that had run under islamism for 1400yrs. If an arab or turk had taken over those same regions it would have worked. Problem was it would have been the same mentality as previous 1400yrs. Rule with the most horrridic iron fist imaginable. Reality was it would be the North Korea of today. That couldn't be allowed to happen as islamism had invaded, colonised, and genocide, (think western colonialism on steroids) for 1400yrs. Consistently so. The only place that was different were two cities. Altho the strict laws there makes anyone saying "tolerant" today embarrasses themselves knowingnly or not. The entire caucus and what people now love to term the lost empire. Between Russia and china. The stans. which are still under an iron fist of their own islamism. none of which have been freed. That is the area that will play a huge role in any upcoming terror.

Peace and prosperity to the region! The last thing we want to see is destroying each others and their properties. We have been paying $10 Billion a year to Palestine, Israel, Egypt and Jordan since 1976 Camp David peace accord.. That's a whopping half a trillion dollars to date! Keep in mind that we have tens of millions of homeless people out on the streets here in USA. Let me repeat one more time.. The last thing we want to see is destroying innocent civilians and their properties. We have been paying $10 Billion a year to Palestine, Israel, Egypt and Jordan since 1976 Camp David peace accord. That's a whopping half a trillion dollars to date! Please bear in mind that we have tens of millions of homeless people out on the streets here in the USA. Peace and prosperity to the region!

Of course I condemn Hamas. But many Palestinians feel that their sufferings have been ignored by the West for generations. They were effectively made to suffer for something that happened in Europe.

Their actions are undefendable. What was done in Israel can be easily called war crimes. I went to protests for Palestinian independence and all, but after this, I cannot support them anymore.

There's still a lot of financial history woven into this time period that wasn't brought to the surface. For example, how did the Rothschild's banking empire fund and finance the combatants during this period?

I hate war that's all I could say.. no one else's will suffer, but it's people.. especially children who don't deserve it... may peace be upon both countries and leaders may always choose their people safety and lives whatever they're trying to gain to have.

Understand your sentiment. But as long as there are peoples who for what ever reason want to attack your country, what else can you do but defend yourself. Or do you think they should surrender and submit to the aggressors ?
