Pitchcombe is a hidden gem near Painswick, in the Stroud region of the Cotswolds. It boasts a lovely church, some beautiful cottages, an old mill and an old manor house.

Magical, pastoral Pitchcombe, a gem indeed ! And worthy of exploration and discovery - provided it remains a gem. Let Painswick draw the madding crowd. The hamlet and its surroundings endure thanks to the local inhabitants and not least to the efforts of the Caruthers-Littles. With gratitude from your Canadian kinsmen. It is good to see the old family seat again in all its Georgian dignity. Mr. Shuckburgh's videos are lyrical, beautiful, informed and so very much appreciated. I'm eager for more. Bravo ! With regards again from far off old Dominion.

A wonderful village which I visited often when staying with my aunt in Painswick. Not as remote as you think evidenced on the video showing the bus passing along the main road en route I think from Cheltenham to Stroud. I am sure you have visited but maybe not on video the wonderful Painswick Beacon. Not a village as such but the 360 degree views from the trig point on an early spring morning are as good as any in the Cotswolds. Thank you for the video.

Delightful video of an enchanting 'combe' which certainly merits a visit - though its a very distant memory for me. I believe there is a bus from Stroud.

Yes indeed, I was wondering rather about that, building a church on top of a church. It reminds me of a memorable narrative from Monty Python with reference to the castle built on a swamp and more of the same until one stayed up. Obviously in Pitchcombe they doubtless knew what they were doing - no jokes there to be made I'm sure. My grandfather was an architect and indeed knew this church well. I dare say he could have easily explained the process to me.
