Across the pond we had the ubiquitous Sears catalogue. It was made of newsprint with hand drawn pictures of the items for sale. Every family had three Sears catalogues. The new one to order from, an old one next to the iron stove to light the fire and the third older one in the outhouse to wipe the neither regions.

My grandma said they used the old Montgomery Ward catalogue pages LOL! :)

Ours were Sears and Roebuck catalogues. Everyone avoided the shiny pages until that's all that was left. Failing catalogues, on the farm they used corn cobs. Yes, they saved them and piled them in the outhouse after they shucked the kernels. Makes my bum hurt just to think about it.

In North America it was common long ago to use the shucked cobs of corn, left out to dry. These were then often thrown to the pigs afterwards.

Just because Lucy has superseded all superlatives there is no reason to believe that she ate'nt even better! My father advised me not to study History as "There is no future in it". He never mentioned intelligent, erudite, compassionate or indeed passionate, insightful and utterly Human beings we now know as 'Females '. Iconographer, iconoclast... ultimately, happily, an Icon. The Joy that is Lucy.... listen to her instead of my drunken ramblings 😂😕😱😂😂😂😂

If the UK got better toilet paper in the 1920’s why was still being used in the 1970’s when I first visited? It seemed like (along with British food) British tp was still getting a bad rap.
@glynnwright16994 жыл бұрын
UK food still gets a bad rap in the USA. I spend a lot of time in both countries and there is no doubt in my mind that, on average, British restaurants nowadays serve better presented, higher quality, food than those in the USA and they do it for half the price.
