Veterans, especially Vietnam Vets, are a special kind of tough. I have a friend who had his left leg blown off in Vietnam, and he is wheelchairbound. He doesn't have a car, but he has a job, and could easily afford one at this point. Still, every day at 8 AM, I see him while I go to class, riding down the side of the road in his wheelchair so he can go to work for the Newspaper. I've asked him if he needs help with anything and if he wants a ride, but he simply says "If I can't do this on my own, what can I do? I think I will do this, to prove to myself I can." He's definitely got an interesting mentality, and will not let me help him, so I just take him out to dinner and/or lunch at an old country kitchen down the road that one of his squadmates used to own before he passed. Tough sons of guns, they are. Mad respect for them.
@scotthill16002 жыл бұрын
Same type of mentality I had after an injury & surgery couldn’t drive for 1.5 years. Refused to let my family or friends drive me around unless I paid them for their time & they were free anyways. Didn’t want to be a burden to anyone, I guess almost like a pride thing. It made life much harder but I could live with myself as a result. Now I can move around on my own, can drive. I guess it’s just a dignity thing, I didn’t wanna be treated like a child that had to be taken care of

I was in SF and MACVSOG and must point out something. The helicopter pilots and crew were as heroic as I can imagine. Door gunners could at least shoot in firefights. But the pilots had to fight ALL NORMAL REACTIONS to fly into a hot LZ and WAIT. Against all instincts to fight or flee, they waited.

We had an extra class in social studies so we decided to do some topics on the Vietnam war. (I'm Canadian.) It was so bad for the Vietnamese when they tried to flee the country, after a while other nations like Malaysia wouldn't accept them and their makeshift boats would sink. Several groups would come forward and sponsor Vietnamese refugees/immigrants, fifty thousand (I believe) actually came over and it was the first major non European immigration wave to Canada. A lot of parallels can be seen in places like Syria today. Not just in the war itself (although partly) but similar in terms of how they are trying to get over and how people's sentiments are more so wavering to help them immigrate. On an unrelated note, I think I'd like to see you react to/just talk about something related to Hiroshima and or Nagasaki, it's (for personal reasons) an event where after we were taught in a lot of detail what occurred and told several stories I had to just leave school that day. I didn't even do that for the holocaust stuff that showed real footage of the aftermath.

Every American should know who MSGT. Roy Benavidez was. He should be on our money, specifically the 100 dollar bill. The number at which the doctors stopped counting his wounds. Everyone knows Rambo, Iron man, and don't forget Katlynn Jenner. The heroes of the Vietnam war were not celebrated, they were denigrated and forgotten, including Tango Mike Mike. When confronted w/ an obstacle in training they cannot negotiate, or in critical straits during combat, thus in dire need of indominable courage, strength, and determination, every Special Forces candidate at Fort Bragg is taught to bellow Tango Mike Mike. Roy's callsign. It stood for THAT MEAN MEXICAN (however the third M is in dispute). I challenge YOU, Mr. Terry, as a teacher of history, to undo some of the wrong that befell men like MSGT. Benavidez. Who didn't ask to fight in an unpopular war, they just went, b/c they saw it as THIER duty. No different than today, or during WWII. History has unjustly forgotten these men, their staggering valor, their sacrifice, their honor. Other than the precious value of human life, what does Roy teach us? Always check for booby traps, and most important, NEVER QUIT. De Oppresso Liber!

Don't remember much of the story but I heard about I think it was a group of US Army Rangers during D-Day that had to I think take a battery of artillery or something. They fought for so long against so many enemies they ran out of ammo for their weapons and began using German weapons. Reinforcements finally arrived and almost fired upon the ones they are reinforcing cause they was hearing German small arms fire. Though take it with a grain of salt as I don't remember the story very well.
