Gotta tell you .... I've been a boat builder for 33 years - first powerboats. Designed built and raced them ... won international titles. Then started building sailboats in '99. Never built any boat that wasn't a cat. Never sailed a Hobie but recently bought a H16 during lockdown. Have refurbished her and looking forward to the first sail - been religiously watching your vids to prepare me. I am used to big boats but things happen a lot quicker on small boats. ... and it so happens that my favourite boating dictum is ...:'do things slowly, then things go wrong slowly ...' go figure ;)

Nice, I hope that your fist sail is memorable! Less wind certainly a good idea to start with!

For sure! I'm going to look at downwind angles comparing sitting in, single and then double trapezing.

Great little tip for resetting the rudder cam Joe. I've tried using the mainsheet to yank it up but never though of wrapping it around the tiller arm to get more purchase as you showed. That will save a trip back to the beach. It's a bit trickier on a 14 solo as having your weight way back there when stationary can be interesting! Mast top cam is also very helpful esp looking at overall sail trim. How is it attached? I'm guessing you attach to the head plate so it goes up when you raise the sail. Would that be right?

Great video as always, Joseph. Could you do a Tornado righting video some time? I heard they are famously hard to right after a capsize. Cheers
@JoyriderTV
@JoyriderTV 4 жыл бұрын
I've still never capsized a Tornado. I think like with other boats, if the mast is sealed and there is enough wind, the boat should come up pretty easily - there's more space for the wind to get under the sail. I'll put something together.
