I lived like this for almost a year out of necessity. It was a fine line between doing just enough to get by or make things too comfortable in bushcraft. I wasn't planning to spend as much time bushcraft living and I'm glad I absorbed knowledge beforehand and from the experience. I found having to build shelter, build a cook pit, forage for firewood, do basic things like boil water, cook and any other tasks needed , to be satisfying. Your meal is well earned in this lifestyle.

I have been living in a tent in the mountains of western Maryland for almost 2 years. The nearest road is a 30min walk. No matter how cold it gets I have to shower daily and what a sight I must be. Early morning it is as cold as it gets but there is no wind so I heat my tent with my alcohol burners I made from aluminum cans until I can no longer take the heat and when I go out the cold feels good. You would have to see the steam come off me as the sun rises. Quite a sight to see I bet

Imagine waking up to the sound of the birds in the morning. The smell of the fresh air. No cars or people to annoy you. A great place to go to refocus. Ponder ones life. How little we all really need in life? Material processions don't bring true happiness. I never knew anyone who loved raw onions like this man. It would have been nice to have built that hut closer to the water.

I slept in the woods on federal land in my bivouac tent for several months one summer when homeless. I placed it under a large pine tree that had low sweeping branches, which both hid and protected me from occasional storms and critters. During that time, I never once heard or seen any cops or sheriffs searching for vagrants. I was sleeping there at night and working at a temp agency during the day. This enabled me to save $8,000 for an apartment.

"Homeless" is a term that encompasses many categories of people. We tend to think of homeless as meaning sleeping on park benches or homeless shelters, or living in a tent on the sidewalk of some city with a shopping cart full of pathetic personal belongings. If one cannot afford to own or rent a home, or chooses not to for whatever reason, you must resort to some non traditional life style, and fall under the umbrella of "homeless". That may range from the previously mentioned group through those sleeping on a friend's couch, or living full or part time in a car, van, or camper or RV, or boat. It may mean living in a tent in the national forest or BLM, or it may mean striking off into the woods in an area that isn't widely frequented such as this man. It does not mean abject poverty, which is obviously not the case here. Clearly his location is not isolated far from any source of supply. The survivalist pretense really doesn't hold water, nor is it practical or even possible for most people to "live off the land". A percentage of those of us watching may be one or two disasters from being homeless, or possibly already fall into that category due to covid related or other job loss and eviction. Those of us lacking a comfortable safety margin, which is probably a large percentage watching this, would do well to consider where we could go, establish a camp / home, and avoid detection while remaining reasonably close the resources of civilization. There are many wooded areas where people never go, or if they do, never penetrate beyond the fringe. A bicycle is the best form of transportation because it can be easily carried out of sight and hidden. Requirements should be a comfortable bicycle range from said "resources" via a lightly traveled secondary road. The location should not be near a road or trail as that will bring others to your location. It should not be close enough to a fishable stream to bring fishermen to within detection range. The access from a road should be via a rocky usually dry watercourse so your comings and goings do not leave a path to the road or trail you use for access. It would be foolish not to utilize solar energy, as cheap as solar is these days, except that locating solar panels in a wooded area could be a real challenge.... using trees might be a viable solution for solar. For that matter, developing a high tree dwelling could be worth looking into because people seldom look up much in the forest. Developing a viable "bug out" location has more potential value than just a way to weather a wide spread SHTF situation. It could be valuable in a personal SHTF scenario.

I sometimes carry builders and carpenters etc in a special transport echelon. Its so wonderful to live the simple life close to nature, don't you think?

That galvanized bucket you found by the rotten cabin... it would have made a good form for your fire place. Cut a hole in the end and then cover the whole thing with stone and clay. This would contain the fire and you could leave a flat space on the top for a cook pot or pan. Just an idea I've used before. It makes your fire place more durable holding the heat and safer, not to mention it helps the stone and clay last longer without direct fire breaking it down. Enjoy your videos my friend...God bless you.

Dude this is exactly what I'm going to be doing fairly soon. In the process of getting tools up and a very small diy solar system (under $125.00) Ive been homeless for years. Got myself out of homelessness for about 2-3 years, then do to influence of friends (aka visitors not leaving till way late at night or borrowing money) ended up homeless again recently. So i figured "welp ive tried it civilized way multiple times only yo end up worse than homeless" so im going to Bushcraft survival. Keeping just two electronics with me, my Nintendo switch (cause by god i worked a whole year to be able to save for it while still covering rent and food costs.) And my phone, thus why do got the idea for the small solar build. 1-8 12v 10ah batteries. A small 400watt inverter and a 100 watt solar kit. This couoled with a 6×6 dugout in the woods aways out just outside of city limits

I ain't too sure I'm watching the same video as most folks on here???? Top the range outside gear, decent woodmanship skills, an good knowledge on survival skills granted.....but homeless, video editing, power for such devices (yep there's solar chargers I know), wifi. This video shows how you could survive but it's no cake walk!

I am preparing myself to return to peaceful living. I’m from the Atchafalaya basin. Largest swamp in North America. Not the same wilderness at all. One thing is for sure. It keeps calling me. So I must answer the call.
