Best bushcraft shelter I've seen! But you definitely need to build a door for it. The heat gets out and the animals can get in. Otherwise it's great. I think I would definitely stay more than one night in it.

As always I enjoyed the video! Only critique was the depth of the fireplace. No signs of heat projecting in to shelter, because the snow around the fireplace never changed, so it appears to have all escaped?
@Sharon-bo2se8 ай бұрын
Was thinking that, too. Using Rumford principle would be more efficient.

Oh, it will be so warm if you make a shelter. I really like snow in your country, because where I live there is no snow. I am also making shelters in the mountains, at cliffs. without snow like where you live

I really love your open concept for shelters. Very interesting. The Fireplace was a HUGE BONUS. Myself, personally, I would have put another wall up and fix a door of some sort to keep heat in. I give this a 9 outta 10 Dude !! You spent a few nights there. I could tell by your surroundings 🥰

There is a lot of sand. Around Vienna there are many cellars build into the sand, some many 100 years old. It would we interesting how long that shelter is stable? Could you go back later that year and use it agein?

You need to build a berm or put stakes around the outside chimney portion for the fire before an animal or person accidentally steps in the hole and breaks a leg or falls through. You could also make a lattice from wood that can let the smoke out, but withstand weight. It's the irresponsible to leave it as is. Do you want to get woken at 3:00 am with a singed mountain lion crawling out of your fireplace looking for something to take his anger out on?

In this day and age, why would anyone start construction on a long term shelter in the winter? The ground is frozen and harder to dig!
@sonnyboywannabe2 ай бұрын
Well it's clearly early winter since the ground isn't frozen yet. Might just be the best time to work and not have to deal w bugs and heat (it is possible that it is mid spring in a place like the Pacific Northwest, where the ground doesn't freeze much)
