I'm grateful the puppy was rescued, but I also think you could be gentler and more loving with your pets. Don't pull their skin or hair, don't smack them!...and pls don't "punish" your beautiful dog by drawing on him with black soot just because he got a little dirty from playing! Your garden/backyard is dirty so they he can't help it if he also gets dirty. Love them equally, not one more than the other. A dog does not know why you give him less treats than the other one! Esp. if (as you said) the corgi did something "bad" the day before. He's probably confused as to why. Just show them love and kindness always, please.

Try to discover what makes your Corgi aggressive towards a newcomer dog or puppy. Your Corgi may have shown an aggressive behaviour because the puppy did not behave the way Corgis behave when meeting each other for the first time. Each specie of dogs have different behavioural patterns when socialising with each other. The new puppy may not have behaved accordingly when the Corgi tried to socialise with the newcomer puppy by smelling its butt. The weight is with you, the owner, on how to go about insuring the safety of both the Corgi and the puppy. I have a fence built in my house specifically to reduce aggressive behaviour of my one particular aggressive dog towards my other equally aggressive dog. I make sure that each dog is on the other side of the fence. I have discovered that both dogs can socialise with my other dogs but not with each other. So I developed a plan to isolate each dog who is aggressive with the other aggressive dog in the house, but, still made sure each dog does not miss out with socialising with my other friendlier dogs, and vice versa. I consistently do scheduling for these two dogs to always socialise with my other dogs but limits time with each other to ensure peace in the pack. But, with you, the Corgi and the puppy have managed to adjust with each other. That is quite amazing.
