I,m pushing 70 been riding almost that long an seriously thinking of a rebel for a basket trip , speeding around is behind me , the rebel is lite with a short seat height , i'm six foot i can sit on it an hold my hand down an touch the ground , if it falls over i'm already on the ground before it even fell over , good fuel millage and steel frame can weld anything you want for racks an stuff , if it breaks down call the local lawnmower place where ever you are tell them to fix it an get a cheap room with whisky an google a happy ending to help you drink it , i'm calling that bike a win for the older man wants to travel an never get a speeding ticket 🙂

I got my 2003 rebel 250 3 months ago as my first bike ever. I paid $1500 for it and it’s been great as a learner bike for sure. I drive it about 30 miles each day and it’s fun, not the fastest but I don’t need to got more than 60mph so it’s perfect. I’m gonna keep it for this riding season and might get a bigger one next year. I love my rebel so far 🙌🏽👌🏽

The vales are EASY af on this bike too, or any other 250cc old-style cruiser for that matter. Literally just a couple more steps compared to doing the adjustments on a chinese 50cc moped. Loved my Rebel, it was much easier to maintain than my Ninja 250R. Though that fucker was so much more fun to ride, but the valves were hard af and required taking the bike completely apart.

Generally the people who are going to tell you something like a Rebel "rides bad" are so engrossed in their own motorcycle or style of motorcycle they can't comprehend the value of a motorcycle outside of their style. Such as sport bike only people will never grasp the value of a cruiser and just always think it is a slow tractor of a bike and terrible. Those same people tell you that standard bikes are bad as well when the very bar for the value of all motorcycles is the standard motorcycle. So I really appreciate your input on a bike like the Rebel 250. I think it shows alot more experience across the multitude of styles of motorcycles.

I was glad to see the Rebel 250 make a comeback. It ain't much, but it ain't a Chinese bastardization of someone else's work. It did get a pretty harsh review for what it is. You can pretty much evaluate the bike in a glance. I bought an '85 Rebel while in college. I somehow had the $600 on hand. Tried to teach a few friends to ride it. My roommate Earl brought it back and laid it over on the ground just like a kid would a BMX bike at the ball park. It was in gear and running. Facepalm. My friend Tim got whiskey throttle and rode it into the side of an appartment complex. Always the bike was running. They are tanks. I have an adult friend who wants to learn to ride and I'm not suggesting any 250cc bikes. I think a "mature" but new rider needs a bike that can at least throttle out of trouble a little. You want something that excites you a little to ride. Something like an old ninja 500. Maybe an older Japanese inline 4 or v twin cruiser in the 600cc range. I got blown around on roads a few times by Semi trucks on the Rebel. I mostly used it to park by the bike racks at UA. It was nice for casual rides on county roads. I liked to do power slides on dirt roads and feel the rear step out. It was easily controllable. The bike will forgive you if you are an absolute hooligan. It just doesn't have enough power to really hurt you. I bet the interior parts of the Boomer engine look like cheap HF parts too compared to the Honda. Really, Honda could have just increased the displacement 100ccs and it would have been 3x better. Everything else was a bit overbuilt for the engine. I didn't like the chrome battery box at first, but I grew to love it. I thought it made it look more like a Harley moped. I couldn't have one without swapping to the chrome battery box.

With a 28t rear sprocket, ive gotten my Nighthawk 250 the rebs cousin well over 80mph with rpms to spare! Its the cam and the gearing that has the reb 250 perform like a cement truck. Swap the sprockets and have a regrind done to get the cam a bit hotter, and the bike will start feeling like a 250 properly should.

One thing I've noticed since living here in the states,...is that yes,.. until recently the cost of living has always been way better than back home in New Zealand. You know growing up in the 70's New Zealand,... things were generally tough. None of my mates had the type of toys you guys have had here. We just couldn't afford it. So when we were lucky enough to get,.. say a motorcycle,..it was something we found at the dump and then had to somehow rebuild it without the availability of any parts, and would have to make them...which we saw as amazing ! So we learnt to look at things solely from a workhorse point of view. A Honda rebel 250 was never seen as a toy for the weekend and would do until I passed my test. It was often the only transport one could afford and therefore seen as a necessity. So it wouldn't hurt to keep in mind that, oh yes,..America might be the greatest country on earth, but most of the world's population doesn't live in America !

Theres a reason they had people who never rode motorcycles before and in only about a day they are doing 360 and 180s in the space of about two parking spaces and they do it on these things. My msf was on some old 150 and half the class was these rebels also and its wild how harcore of an emergency swerve you can do on these things

Love this. Can't wait to see the "Finale" of the Chinese bike saga. I completely agree that SOME people go way too hard on the classic small displacement bikes. They really do have their purpose... but that purpose was never meant to be carting a giant yeti of a human down a Texas highway at 80mph. (I don't mean you, Yam... just that average Americans do tend to be large). Dollar for dollar though you can't beat a used Japanese small displacement bike... you are riding a decent motorcycle from a reputable manufacturer in 2023 for about 2 or 3 grand.... we live in peak beginner bike time.

18" Front Wheel & 15" Rear wheel, the Rebel borrowed the original Big Wheel Design and that's why this lil bike is so flickable with outstanding front wheel tracking. My 2015 Rubidium Red, Honda Rebel is a beauty and sports more chrome & candy Red paint than the 'modern' bikes. It's a keeper and i bet will be collectible and hold its value because its a Honda.

I'm surprised by the slow 0-60 time on both these bikes! I own a modest 2012 CBR250R and even with it's single cylinder engine and alledged 25 HP (doubt it) it does 0-60 in about 8 seconds. I guess that could be down to the gearbox, mine's a 6 speed and I imagine it's got closer ratios than the Rebel and the Chinese deathtrap. It also tops out at around 95 MPH but that's aero related for sure.
@XV250
@XV250 Жыл бұрын
Have you verified those numbers with GPS? If the speedometer claims 95, it's probably optimistic by several miles per hour. To be fair you're comparing apples against oranges; a liquid-cooled modern design against an air-cooled motor and transmission designed almost 40 years ago.

I rode the Yamaha Virago 250 Cruiser, which is just like the this Honda, for a week in Spain. Omg it was a lot of fun. My main bike was a Honda 1000cc Fireblade sports bike at the time, and I've had various bikes 50cc to 1,700cc. I'm an average rider, done a few trackdays, can get my knee down but I'm not a racer. That 250 cruiser was a blast! It was so light weight, nimble, good handling, fun, and easy, on those wonderful twisty Spanish mountain roads. If you're new to biking then there's hardly a better beginner bike than one of these. They're so manageable and easy, which means you will enjoy learning.

I learned to ride on a 2001 Rebel 250. Once I moved on to another, more powerful bike, it was a 1982 KZ750-LTD. I was so happy at how much better the dinosaur KZ was than the Rebel. But I kept the Rebel because it's still a really good bike. For what it is, it does what it's supposed to and it does it well. It's been 10 years. I still have that little Rebel. I no longer have the KZ750. I have a few KZ1000s from 1988, 1989, and 2002, and a 1983 KZ1100 now. They all run super reliably after I restored them. But you know what? The Rebel 250 blew a valve from running an open exhaust for 6 years because the exhaust stud broke, and I'm replacing its cylinder head as soon as the weather is warm enough for me to work on it. Already have the replacement in hand. It was $40.

My 2010 rebel went almost 90 down hills. It was also brand new at the time with literally 1.5 miles on it when I got it. Great bike to start on or use as a gas saver. Not much else use from it unless you want the cheapest, easiest thing to work on yourself.

Comparing a cruiser with a sport style bike doesn't make any sense to me.

Hey Yammi is it ? iv got a suggestion ..how about doing a comparison between your little Reble 250 and compaire it to the Kymco Venox 250 ,id love to hear your thoughts ,what ya thinks ,and do the same tests your doing here as well as looks, comfort , the Venox has 28 hourse power and its has 19 torque.I tell ya i do not know why the Kymco Venox didnt do well in North Amarica. and the little Reble did so well for so long.

It would be interesting to see Grom vs Boom on the track. I'm gonna guess that the Grom will win, purely due to it being a much more stable and confident bike.

there is the Honda Rebel 300 ABS, for 2025 now ....less cost, than the 500 twin...and it's a single cylinder, as you are used to. I noticed the Phantom 200 is no longer in production.

I agree the rebel is a great bike for what it's designed.. a starter bike.. a small commuter bike around the city.. for a student to bop around campus on from class to class. Don't forget a lot of people are buying these little scooters and I think they'd be better served by buying a rebel and save some money too over a new scooter... Especially a crappy Chinese scooter.... I only Yamaha Royal Star 1300 the windshield saddlebags I love it for cruising on the highways and riding..BUT to run to the grocery store I have to muscle this 800 lb machine Fred Flintstone style back it out of the garage then back at sideways in the driveway so I can pull out.. it would be nice to have a little rebel to run to the grocery store on and take a little ride around town..

I'd love to see you talk more about the Rebel 450. It's got about 5 seconds of screen time on your So You Want To Buy a Rebel video given that it kinda got lost in history There's very little info about it on KZbin - you'd be the man to do a killer review on it It'd be great to see a comparison to the 250, or even to the 300/500!

Price is too good to be true, it has honda written on it, but im reading something about it being a honda/ chinese/mexican built conglomerate? Would love to hear your thoughts as the specs are perfect for my wife wishing to learn motorcycles.
