That’s one thing I miss being in the Fire Department is working with all the folks in the other agencies. All of us in Fire, EMS, police, sheriff, & tow all were pretty much 1 big family. We helped each other. We helped tow won’t clean up, backup if anyone needed it ( if the sheriffs were in trouble out in the county anyone wouldn’t hesitate if they lived close to back them up till other sheriffs or PD arrived. Same with EMS if Leo’s or Fire guys where close they would respond POV to help. You guys do hear it enough but you have a tough & appreciate all you do.

Only the 2nd time I'm watching this channel and noticed your truck has a pushbutton automatic transmission. Cool.
@Towtruck_Dustin Жыл бұрын
Most of the Allison transmissions use some kind of electric shifter on the bigger trucks. Some a switch, or push buttons. Some of the newer trucks have a traditional automotive style gear lever.
@hawaiifiles Жыл бұрын
@@Towtruck_Dustin Thank you for the reply. I learn something new all the time when watching KZbin. The last time I saw a pushbutton trans was when I was a kid in our neighbor's 1959 Plymouth. Fury.

when you tow vehicles from an accident scene on a police tow, do you tow it to your yard, or where the customer wants? in my state if it is a police rotation it goes to the police impound yard unless it is driveable
@Towtruck_Dustin Жыл бұрын
It goes to our yard depending on the jurisdiction. If it’s in an investigation, sometimes it goes to a holding bay at the police department, but we generally get it back and release it to the owner. If it’s an accident, some agencies allow us to take them to the customers choice of location, but they have to pay out of pocket to drop it.

Now in your videos Dustin I have noticed you use straps and not J-Hooks is that required or your Preference ? We just used J-Hooks on the rear and pulled it tight so it wouldn't move . Here the police want the roads open fast .
@Towtruck_Dustin Жыл бұрын
A lot of guys throw a chain or two in the rear and suck the winch tight. Which I’ve done a few times to get clear of an accident scene, but the problem with that method as “securement” is the winches on these trucks aren’t load bearing, and can bleed off the tension, putting slack into the chains. Obviously that’s not a good scenario if you have to brake or turn evasively. Which is why I generally use straps and ratchets.

So is "walking the truck" like u can move the whole truck backwards like some kias and hyundais? Remotely?
@Towtruck_Dustin Жыл бұрын
Not really sure what you mean, but walking is where you use the hydraulics to pickup the drive tires and push the truck around.
@HomelessAdventuresHD Жыл бұрын
@Towtruck_Dustin ah I meant like some.cars have a feature to move the car forward and backwards w a remote to get out of a tight situation...figured maybe ur truck could remotely move backwards if u parked to far forward

What happens to the car after you drop it in your yard
@Towtruck_Dustin Жыл бұрын
Depends. Generally insurance or the owner has it towed out to a body shop, or wherever they want it fixed or stored. Sometimes no one comes back for them and we end up selling or scraping them.
