A Horse Windsucking

Jasper windsucks all the time without a color on, he wears down hos teeth, destroys other horses coats, and weakened fence posts by doing this. Given the opportunity not to wear it he'll just stand doing it all day. He would normally make a noise while doing this that sounds like he's choking but it's normal for them to make that sound, but on this video he doesn't because I had only just taken off his color.

This is actually cribbing. Wind sucking is when they can pull the air in without grilling something with their teeth and is a progression. Both give a dopamine hit and are coping mechanisms for stress. Boredom, separation and insufficient grazing opportunities (hay and straw count) contribute to these learnt stereotypical bahaviours, just as you see confined dogs headbanging the wall

My friends horse does this we have tried everything to get him to stop. I don't think he will grow out of this when they got him he was super skinny he was an ex racehorse and on his passport it said not to be raced again what does that mean not seen that before ?

I was told it means they are a bit OCD and smart but bored. ...but who knows ...its seen as like stimming type behaviour in horses

Do you stall your horse? Keep him tied up for long periods of time?

No they're out in a filed all year round
