Many people are asking if the horse felt any pain or discomfort during this. No, the horse doesn't feel any pain whatsoever as this process is same as we humans getting pedicure. @julien cuguen 🤣 Wut? Milk a horse? It's because the horse is intelligent and trained. They have been shoed before and rewarded greatly for being cooperative so they learned to be that way. They've learned that they feel much better afterward with trimmed hooves and nice newly fitted shoes, and they have nothing to fear. It doesn't hurt, it just feels funny like our nails getting clipped. They get breaks in between each foot so they can put weight back on that leg. They've learned that they can trust the farrier not to hurt them at any point in time. It's classic conditioning.

I was in agriculture classes when I was in high school because I had to choose classes that would lean towards a certain career field even though the career I wanted to go for at the time didn’t have any classes at my school that was meant for it. When I took equestrian science my ag teacher told our class that the hooves are just like toenails on the ends. In the upper part of the hoof there are a ton of blood vessels running through them that have evolved to act as another heartbeat every time the horse steps on each foot, and there is a hoof bone at the top of the hoof. Of course, farriers never trim that far up and when they nail in the nails it does not hurt the horse because the nails don’t go into the part with blood vessels so it’s just like a human finger nail and the nails are hammered at an angle to come out on the outsides of the hoofs on the other end, rather than facing inwards towards the horse’s “real foot”.

"Horseshoes are used to help aid in the durability of the hoof on working horses. The hoof itself is made up of the same stuff as your fingernail, called keratin. However, the hoof has a soft and tender inner part called the frog, that can be injured. @@shroomey6686 haha, you triggered my trump card, i actually know about this topic! So, basically span of wild horse is 5 years shorter than domesticated one (dont actually know exact number but around this mark). Reasons to this are the ones you suggest: 1) Hoofs aint getting that fresh cut their whole life, so are disease prone, and in case they got damage, there's no one to treat the hoof. 2) They get damaged and destroyed, due to them traveling in mountains or plains, and simply they face the harsh nature on everyday basis, while domesticated horses are usually travelling the same old plain or farm, maybe get to walk in the trees but don't go around as much as wild ones.

You know how when you cut your fingernails, you don't feel pain unless you cut too close to the skin? Well, think of a horse's hoof as a large, thick fingernail covering the foot. As you saw, the nails were placed into the outer shell of the hoof. The horse didn't feel a thing. The only part of the hoof that is sensitive is the frog (the triangle-like part in the center of the hoof) and the sole.
